Someone mentioned in another thread that they were double vaccinated. I’ve never heard of someone doing that. Is it a common thing? Is there really a tangible benefit to getting two different vaccines?
And, because this is NSBR, do you think it’s ethical to be double vaccinated when there are people worldwide still waiting for their first? Or is it warranted? If so, when?

Did they mean they got both shots? Or the covid vaccine and another same day?

I had AZ first and my second shot will be one of the mRNA vaccines. They’ve determined it’s safe and effective here in Canada. I’m not sure if that’s what you mean by double vaccinated though.

Did they mean they got both shots? Or the covid vaccine and another same day? Huh. Maybe? I have always heard that just referred to as “fully vaccinated,” but maybe you’re right.

I took it to mean the other poster had a full course of one vaccine, and then a full course of a second, but I’m not sure.

If I saw someone say they were "double vaccinated" I would assume they meant they had both of their shots. If someone is getting both types, a full dose of the mRNA and another full dose of the viral vector vaccine than I think they are being selfish when so many countries are still waiting.

Just the other day I heard someone say "I think everyone here is double vaccinated" - I personally am FULLY vaccinated having received both doses of the Moderna vaccine so I'm guessing that is what she meant. IMO it's not the correct verbiage to use... can be very misleading.

If they got both shots from both Pfizer and Moderna, then I think they are selfish and stupid assholes. There is no way to know how the two full doses interact and there are countries waiting for the vaccine. In my area, it is easy to get the vaccine now and they are begging and bribing people to get it. But if I heard someone say double vaccinated, I'd assume they got both shots of one brand

My 80 year old dad got the AZ vaccine in February and just got his 2nd AZ dose about 2 weeks ago outside of the US. He flew back home last week and plans to check with his doctor to see if he should get vaccinated here at some point. If, down the road he needs an AZ booster, that would likely mean he would have to travel outside of the US to get it, which at his age may not be possible for much longer.
I would guess my dad’s situation is pretty rare.

IMHO, it would be unethical to get 2 full sets of 2 different vaccines when so much of the world is still waiting for vaccines.

I would assume they mean they are FULLY vaccinated as in they have had two doses. I can't understand how someone can get 2 doses twice. Is there not a record somewhere of who has been vaccinated and who has not? How do they know how many have been vaccinated if they don't keep records ? I would imagine it could be quite dangerous to get double vaccinated in the short time the vaccinations have been out there.

I am fully vaccinated, meaning 2 Pfizer. I might ask if/when about a different booster... Who know? Surely not I!!

Most of what I am hearing here is that if/when boosters are needed, people will just get what is available, regardless of what their first dose/s were. There are also many people here getting 'mixed' vaccines - one dose of AZ and one of Pfizer. My DH had AZ as his first, and has been told by his doctor he'll get Pfizer next time around. There is research coming out of the UK recently that this may even give better antibody responses than 2 doses of the same vaccine.

My guess is that they do not and that our state's searchable database is inaccurate. I looked to see if i am listed as having the vaccine and I am not even though I got my second shot back in March

My doctor didn’t even know I had the vaccine. His office manually put it into their system. And my doctor is affiliated with a major medical medical group that is doing a lot of the vaccines!

So when they give out figures that have been first or fully vaccinated in the US they actually have no idea if the number is true or not, therefore far more could have been and far more could not have been vaccinated? I know there's a lot more of you than there is of us but medical records are on a central base here attached to your National Health number. When they give you the jab they bring up your details and after they've jabbed you it's keyed into the system immediately. The appointments are done in the same way so they know exactly how many appointments to release depending on the delivery of the vaccines and which manufacturer they are expecting and how many to release to the different hubs.

I took it to mean they had both doses. But it is a strange way of saying that. Most people say “fully vaccinated.”

So when they give out figures that have been first or fully vaccinated in the US they actually have no idea if the number is true or not, therefore far more could have been and far more could not have been vaccinated? I assumed the numbers they're releasing are from the providers giving the vaccine... like right now, on the traffic marquees in the Phoenix area, there's a message that says "join 3.3 million Arizonans; get vaccinated." So I'm assuming that statement means 3.3 million Arizonans are fully vaccinated with both doses. I figured those numbers were reported from the huge county / city mobile sites, doctor's offices, pharmacies, etc. TO the State Health Department in some manner, and the State Health Department is doing the final tallying to calculate % vaccinated.

My first thought when I read "double vaccinated" is that the person has had four doses -- two from one two-dose vaccine and two from another two-dose vaccine. Or maybe they've had both two-dose shots and then one J&J. Not sure why anyone would do that (unless there's a medical reason having something to do with their own compromised immune system or something like that).
Around here when someone has had both doses they say they're "fully vaccinated".

They are getting data both from the state immunization registries and through the VAMS program. Unless they lied about their name they shouldn’t have been able to get a second set of vaccines, as it’s all run through VAMS. It’s not perfect, so I guess it’s possible.

The CDC Proof of Vaccination card I received was the same as the ones my kids recently received with their vaccinations, but is hand-written and frankly looks like it could have been faked. Strangely, I didn’t have to give the employee health much information at the time to get my vaccination, unlike the full page of information I was required to fill out now for my kids. I’m supposed to be going on a cruise in September (if it doesn’t cancel) and will need to provide proof of my COVID vaccination. I want to have additional, irrefutable proof that I have been fully vaccinated in case they don’t accept my card as proof, so I sent a request to the Washington state Department of Health for the record they should have received from my employer after I was vaccinated. They sent word back this week stating that they have nothing - no record of me being vaccinated. Now I’m having to get a hold of employee health and ask them why the state DOH has no record of me being vaccinated. I’m not sure what to do if I can’t get that secondary proof of vaccination for travel reasons.

I know someone who had an allergic reaction to Pfizer and then got the J& J instead of a second Pfizer shot.

It is confusing. I know a lot of people that considered themselves safe after that second shot was administered. I didn't.

They are using “double” wrong. I even heard it used on the news tonight. Double vaccination means they got both doses not sure why the media etc are using the word double. Idiots

Yes, if you think of 50 states as 50 countries, *sort of*, and about 330 or so million people, and no socialized medicine, messy it can be.

I got my first dose of AZ in the middle east and then they stopped using it and we moved back to the USA . So now I am getting two doses of Pfizer so I show up as fully vaccinated. Not ideal but what else can I do?
