I'm having some issues with a cheapo machine. I used to have a Kenmore Mini Ultra that worked well until I sewed on fabric that was too much for it. I've read a lot about the Janome Sew Mini but it's been discontinued and I haven't found any online. Any suggestions for something similar? I've been looking at the Janome Easy to Use. Has anyone tried it? I'm not interested in a computerized machine. I want a basic machine that would really only be used for scrapping. Thanks for any suggestions.

i use one machine for crafting and fabric sewing. i just change out the needles when i switch between projects. i don't think you need to buy two. and the cheapo machines are just that---cheapo. they are not steady or powerful enough to do a good job on paper projects. been there done that with that waste of money.

Any base model from Singer or Brother would work well for scrapbooking. you can find a bunch of gently used machines on FB marketplace or craigslist if you don't want to spend more than $75 on a new machine. even the most basic machine will have all the stitches you need for scrapbooking. me, i would just stay away from any machine labeled for scrapbooking. they are overpriced and often times no better than a basic machine.

I agree about the “craft” sewing machines. Waste of money. Thanks for the suggestions.

I bought a Singer Sew Mate a few years ago. Basic machine, has some different stitching and basically easy to use. The automatic threader is not my friend so I just manually thread the needle! I keep my dull needles for sewing on cards, tags etc. I just change out that the needles depending on what I am sewing. You can also purchase little attachments that will sew a circle for you and make stitched flowers. Works great, didn't pay a lot for it!

I picked up a Singer two years in a row (one for me, one for a friend) for a good price on Amazon Prime Day, which is coming up on June 21-22 if you are an Amazon shopper. They had a few different options. If you want new, and can wait for a bit, I'd bet they will include some sewing machines in the sale this year. I only use mine for paper sewing but figured it wasn't that much more than the "craft" ones everyone here said were junk. I use Camel, Camel, Camel to check prices and see if it's actually a good price or not.

I have the Brother CS6000i. Right now it's about $200 on Amazon but I think when I got it, it was much closer to $100. I also only use it for papercrafting so it hasn't been heavily used but I've never had a problem with it. I've had it for probably seven years, I think? My favorite feature is that it has a button you can use in place of a foot pedal. Since I don't use it often (and not for long periods of time), I find that setting up a foot pedal is a pain when I pull it out, so there's just a button on the machine that you push to make it start sewing.

I have a Brother XR9500PRW that I use for paper sewing. It got it in 2013 from Amazon. Still works great.

I do like others do, I have different needles for paper crafting and for fabric. I have a Pfaff baseline model (can't remember what it is off the top of my head) and it's great. It wasn't cheap but it's easy to thread and easy to use.

Lots of votes for Brother. I’ll keep that in mind.
