All the time. We are currently on vacation and same setup with a washer and dryer yet I packed way too much. Our 9yo dd wanted to pack her own suitcase so I let her pack it and then checked it. She definitely doesn’t overpack because she had 1 outfit for each day and 1 pair of underwear for each day. I told her she needed to pack at least a few more pairs of underwear for spare. She looked at me in bewilderment and said “I don’t know what you do in your underwear but I only wear 1 each day.” LOL I tried to explain what if it rained or she spills on herself, etc but she still thought it was crazy to pack more than 1 of each article of clothing per day. I pack SO MUCH UNDERWEAR. It's not like I poop my pants all vacation long! Why so much! I have underwear panic.

Not anymore. Most of our travelling pre-Covid was cruises and other Countries. You finally realize that you usually wear the same clothes over and over again, so you start packing more reasonably. I will say, packing cubes really help to stay organized though. I love packing cubes.

I pack one outfit for each day, and 1 or 2 extras in case I spill something on a top or something. I bring one extra set of underwear. I bring the shoes that go with various outfits but generally, depending on where I am going, I try to really coordinate so I can take fewer shoes, maybe one extra pair.
When I go to the beach I take 2 suits if I have 2 suits. If I had 3 I might take 3, just because I hate putting on a wet swim suit.
I don't over pack. I don't count on being able to wash stuff but when I can that's a bonus. I usually don't want to spend my time on vacation doing laundry unless I just have to.

Nope - we are carry on only. So I've packed for 2 weeks in Europe in a carry on bag - actually our family of 4 (granted kids were little 4 and 5) packed for 2 weeks in 2 carryons. Sometimes we have to do laundry midtrip - but it's rare that I can't find a place to drop it off and pick it up way cheaper than checking a bag these days. And it's a bit of an adventure. Plus we don't have to deal with the 6 days waiting for the bag to find you after being lost which has happened multiple times to friends/families who check bags. I'm trying to think of the longest trip we've done with carryon only - probably 3 weeks in Africa, but that's not exactly fair as there isn't a whole lot of variety in what you're wearing and laundry was included in all the safari camps.

Oh and it is all about the shoes - you need to wear your big pair and make sure everything coordinates with your shoes. I love shoes, so it would be easy to take too many pairs and they do not pack light - so I pick my shoes first.

I did on my last trip to Reno last week. We didn't go swimming, didn't go to a fancy restaurant, I didn't read any books and I didn't wear the 2 others pairs of pants. Oh well.

I usually overpack, but I don’t do it by taking extra bags. If it fits in the bag I picked, it’s fair game. And I will not do laundry on vacation, so I take enough for the trip. Vacation means no laundry....

No, I have it down to a science. And I've trained my kids well. DH, on the other hand, brought a week's worth of stuff for an overnight stay in the hospital. His nurse took one look and said to me "you will be taking all that home." ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/rofl.gif) But I also don't think 3 swimsuits is excessive for a week at a beach/lake/pool location.

I don't overpack clothing. I can fit 7-10 days worth of clothing in a carry-on, depending on the weather. I usually wear my pants more than once, so I don't need one pair for everyday. I wear one pair of shoes and pack one extra. I don't take my own shampoo anymore. I just use whatever the hotel has.
What I do tend to overpack is non-clothing. Things like camera equipment, electronics, my travel journal and journaling supplies. I've gotten better at taking less than I think I'll have time for.

Every. Single. Time! I need options ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) and I like to be prepared for different situations. We are in Florida right now for 12 days and you would think I was leaving home forever. ETA: I have worn only about a quarter of my shirts and half of my capris and we come home on Friday.

I’m the opposite of most people on this thread. I don’t need choices. Outfits are meticulously planned to match whatever activity we are doing that day and coordinate with each other so we will match the place and each other for perfect pictures. When I plan a vacation I have pages where I write down the details of what we’re doing each day (cost, tickets, distances, times), then pages where I write what we are wearing to do each thing. I don’t know how old your kids are, but what will you do when the time comes they want to wear something that doesn’t match? I know I couldn’t tell my boys what to wear after they reached a certain age. I was just happy they wore clean clothes. 😆

I tend to dress more casually, so I roll my clothes or fold them so that the outfit pieces are all right next to each other. I can pull out the bundle and have it all. I often overpack since I am used to having 2-4 seasons a day here. Our last trip had a washer and dryer right in the condo, so I has less than half a load when we got home. It made me very happy.

They knew if they needed dressier clothes and other than that, they wore what they packed. Every day was a surprise and when I look back at my albums, I love seeing their style.

Only 6 shirts and 2 pair shorts for a week! That is not over packing. We always have a washer/dryer for out beach trips and I take way more than that. In my defense, travel is one of the few times I get to go out to dinner so I look forward to wearing my newest clothes and of course I have to have lots of comfortable old things for the beach.
Today I set aside clothes for a shorter trip and yes, there is more there than I need but I don't care. I'd rather have a little too much than forget something.

I used to, until I started traveling a lot for work. And then I became motivated to streamline so I’d never have to check baggage again. That’s spilled over to all travel.

I’ve already overbought for our trip next week to a place that has roughly the same climate as where we live. Three bathing suits isn’t the half of it!

Extra undies are 100% justifiable. We’re at the beach and it’s hot and sticky and we’re showering at least twice a day.

I have gotten better about it. Doing the GYPO style challenges makes it so much easier to pack. I just pick an outfit for each day and try to make choices that use the same shoes. It made it much easier when I was packing a suitcase with clothes for temps in the 40s that would take up more space in my bag. When I did it for my Las Vegas trip in the summer, I ended up buying all new clothes at the Loft store in the Planet Hollywood shops on my second day there. Fortunately summer clothes don't take up much room. That was fun.

Always. Not quite with multiple swimsuits or a whole extra bag. Usually just an extra outfit, underwear, and socks. Even if it's going to really hot, I still pack long pants and a hoodie. I always pack a second pair of shoes even though most of the time, I never wear them.
There has been plenty of times when that extra outfit, extra socks, second pair of shoes was needed. Despite that, DH still rolls his eyes at me when I toss in that extra set.

I will forever be challenged by packing. I can't wear anything twice--bras, pants, jeans etc. The clothes just feel dirty and skeevy to me. So how people pack for 8-10 days in a carry on is puzzling to me, unless they're very tiny people with very small clothes, or wearing clothes multiple times, which is a non-starter for me. Especially in fall and winter, when clothes are so much more bulky and I'm more likely to wear layers. I've cut back on shoes, just simply because they're so heavy, and I'm always near or at max weight for my checked bag. But I admit it's not as much fun being able to coordinate outfits with different shoes. Summer is the easiest for this because of sandals. I've got a long weekend to Denver planned for next week, and I'm dreading packing for it.

I’m a terrible packer. I feel this need to have multiple options, especially in hot weather.
I’ve just resigned myself to checking a bag when I fly. I used to try so hard to get by with just a carry-on, and it’s simply not something I can manage.
