So weird... my DD got me hooked on Hey Dude shoes. Love love them. Great for work, they look great with capris, jeans and so comfy. I was talking to my dental hygienist this morning and started talking shoes and I asked if she heard of them and she said her son had a pair but he got asked a very weird question.. some lady went up to him and said "are you wearing Hey Dude shoes" and he said yes.. then she asked him if he was prejudice.
I looked everywhere for something and can't find anything really, there seems to be a couple of iffy websites which I am not going to open ... but she was baffled to and said her son was mortified.
Anyone know of this?

I've never heard of Hey Dude shoes. I just did a google search for "hey dude controversy" and the only thing that came up was this very weird post on Twitter:
But that can't be it. How does supporting PETA make one prejudiced?

The only thing I could find was something about them and PETA. But I can't go down rabbit holes right now. Working on getting a financial report done.

Yeah that is the only thing I came up with.. I don't even think they do support PETA.. I know their shoes are recycled materials and all that, so could be PETA "friendly". I mean I wear my Dudes and eat steak.. lol
I wish it was me she said something to!

I saw a twitter post about Hey Dude and PETA. One person showed a screen shot supposedly from the company saying yes they support PETA and another person posted a screen shot of a post from the company saying that a rumor was started by a former employee and no they don't support PETA.

PETA is trying to hurt the industry, yet these people in the industry are wearing Hey Dudes. Now, I don't know anything about Hey Dudes, or what they do or don't support. But that is the gist of this Twitter post. |

Everyone around here is wearing them-- they're like the Sperrys of a few years back.
With that said, I saw a pair of leopard print ones and I'm super tempted! I don't know of any controversy.

After my two foot surgeries, about the only shoes I really love are Rocket Dog Jazzins. I wear a pair pretty much every day. I now have about five pairs and I buy them when I can snag a pair cheap. I have a couple other styles from Rocket Dog but my custom orthotics don’t fit very well (or at all) in them so I can only wear those for a short while or my feet start to hurt. I can tell just from the photos that the Hey Dude shoes wouldn’t be tall enough in the toe box to work for me with the metal plate in my foot.  The UIN shoes that were linked might work and are cute, but $70 a pair is a lot for a pair of casual shoes. |

Sigh....I don't even like shoes, and I hate shoe shopping, yet I clicked the link....Very cute! I love them! At first I was happy to see that they don't have my size (11) in women's which means I can't order any. Then I saw they have men's shoes but I thought "surely the men's won't be as cute as the women's...they won't have all those fun patterns"... hahaha Yep, they do! This is always my problem with athletic shoes...the women have fun colors and the men usually do not. Anyway, I just might order a pair! |

I have the leopard print ones.. they are super cute. I also have a pair of pink glittery ones.. not in your face glittery.. just a good sparkle. They go FAST... so once they have stock in, don't hesitate. |

Do Hey Dudes have any arch support at all? Or are the insoles flat? I would say kinda flat.. they are very cushy and feel supportive... but flat. They do sell insoles separate... maybe they have different kinds. You can remove the insole and wash the shoes. I have done this once and they look brand new again. Or you can maybe put your own in. |

How bizarre. These shoes are very trendy and people are probably not doing political/social research before hitting “Purchase.” The stranger could have explained the problem it, not assumed wearing them was this guy’s intolerance flag.
Stab in the dark: is is possible the woman objects to the “masculine” name? There are some pretty concrete thinkers out there.
