grammadee During our virtual crop last weekend Dee and I were bemoaning the lack of markings on our Fiskar cutters. We each have the big one that folds in half. There is no marking at the 6" or the 5.75" spots. So I've focused on this ever since. First I thought "Well I can take an old tape measure, cut a piece out of it and glue in on". Then there would be the problem of how would you fold the cutter for storage or travel? Well, Dee, if you lay the tape measure down and line it up with the markings that are on the base you can use a sharpie and mark the 6" and 5.75" spots. How simple is that? This has bugged me ever since I bought this cutter.

Thanks, gramma. I will give this a shot. Now do I have to promise to cut everything absolutely square and measured correctly?

I went a step further and used a silver sharpie to mark my most used measurements (like those of my Life Crafted album pages) so I can see them easily in low light.

I mark a lot of my tools, especially for repetitive projects. I use a Sharpie to make lines on my Scor-Pal so I don't have to squint to see the right track to make my envies, or different size boxes. I also have a 15" Fiskars guillotine trimmer with the markings a little off, so I've had to mark it too.

If you've got the steady hands for it, even better is to score with a hobby/craft knife into the plastic, then fill that with sharpie. The groove will ensure the marking doesn't wear off in the future.

Gramma, I put sharpie lines to fill unmarked measurements on my smaller Fiskars guillotine cutters.

Frazzled Mom, that is brilliant!!! The office where I scrap does not have the best light so if I am working at night, I am always struggling to see the measurements. I am definitely giving this a try.

I purchased the masking tape that has measuring tape design. It works great too.

oh yes. I was going to try some mini slimline cards one day until I realized that the measurements I needed were lost in the join of my TH trimmer. I ended up giving up that day and waiting until I had brain power to do math to figure out the other measurements (what to cut off to get the 6.whatever inch size). But yes, I need to add a few marks if I can find a good spot. My trimmer has the little plug in extension arm. I have used sharpie or a piece of washi tape on the trimmer in the past, especially for repetitive cutting. In woodworking you would make a jig - no need to keep measuring the same thing over and over.
