I went in yesterday to my LSS and I made the comment of all the sneak peaks for Christmas already. They said the embellishments etc for all the new Christmas lines that are made in China may now be delayed. Paper no, as this is mostly made in the US. I wasn't surprised, of course. And it might not even make that much of a difference since they have started to announce the releases now. Just thought it was interesting to share the info.

I am not surprised. My local news station said a couple of days ago that they recommend if anyone was ordering Christmas gifts from over seas or specialty orders they need to start now because there is going to be long delays this year.

The non-Christmas Simple Stories stuff I pre-ordered that was due to arrive in May is stuck in a shipping container somewhere so I'm not surprised. COVID, the gift that never ends...

Everything is snarled up right now with global shipping, especially low dollar value to volume products, like dollar store and craft supplies. Renting out a shipping container is still a nightmare, so it's no surprise to me that embellishments are getting dropped. Businesses are looking at a 300-600% price increase in shipping container rates, companies are cancelling contracts all over the place, not telling buyers, 'forgetting' about contracts, putting loads on different ships, it's literal chaos.
Good reason to shop from our stashes this year!

The containers are still on the ship which got stuck in the Suez canal a few weeks ago too and unlikely to be released soon because there's some dispute about who's going to pay damages. Pity the poor folks who might have all their furniture on there, or their new kitchen, or... As for the rotting food. yuk.

I have an eBay order (from China) that I ordered in March and was supposed to be here by yesterday. New shipping date is October.

I was listening to a podcast that discussed how the Suez situation really created so much mayhem in the shipping world. There’s only a finite number of shipping containers and a huge percentage of them were/are on THAT ship. So it’s not just the affecting the cargo on that ship, but allllll the stuff that can’t get packed for shipment because there’s now a shortage of those containers. Such a cluster.

This is what I was told at my LSS about Simple Stories orders, too. Don't know where that container is. Dh keeps saying it is all b/c of that ship that was lodged in the Suez canal. But I thought that blocking the canal for a week or two would not have effects this many weeks out for items to be months behind.
ETA just read your post elegantsufficiency and that helps explain the mega widespread delay in shipping.

grammadee Nope, not the Suez Canal problem only. The container market was already going crazy before that. We're nowhere close to seeing the end of it. Overseas internationals: mail from the US seems to have slowed down again as well so if you plan on ordering from the US in time for October Daily or December Daily, make sure you are as ahead of the curve as you can.

Maybe if people weren't turning them into tiny houses there wouldn't be a shipping container shortage? The world today is weird...

There was also a major downturn in manufacturing / raw material production when Covid first started impacting global economies. Production of shipping containers and the materials to make them throttled back, only to have demand rebound to even higher levels. Plus the whole import/export imbalance that's got containers stranded at the wrong ports and ships that (understandably) don't want to sail back without any cargo.
Economists are good at predicting supply/demand under normal circumstances, but as we all know nothing about the last year+ has been normal. It's been throwing entire toolboxes of monkey wrenches into supply chains all over the globe.
Honestly I'm surprised so many things are still functional.

I want that Simple Stories Family Fun line - pretty much all of it. Has anyone seen it in stores or available online yet?

I preordered some of it and it was supposed to be here in May. I haven’t even seen it on SS blog or Instagram because no one has it yet... there was an email about why it was delayed.

Glad I over-bought on Christmas last year (and the year before that…and the year before that…). Seriously though, I bought the SS North Pole collection, and then bought the Felicity Jane kit and went with that instead (supplemented by IACB, FYC and a few other random things), so I’m set to use SS North Pole this year, and maybe all the delays will mean I won’t switch gears and go for something else. Plus, I used a lot of IACB printables and likely will again if she has more in her shop. No shipping required!
