We've rented from this site (not VRBO, a much smaller site for a particular resort near WDW) and this particular owner twice before. I filled out the enquiry form on Tuesday and haven't yet heard from them other than the automate response which has all the info I filled out and says "you should hear back from the owner soon".
I have this particular owner's email address, would it be presumptious to email him directly at this point?

The rental we just had, the owner told us to message her directly if we wanted to rent again so we could skip the fees

Honestly, I'd wait until Monday. And unless I had been invited by them to email directly, I'd reach out through the site again.

I’d definitely email. I would expect that sort of business to respond within an hour or two unless it’s the height of the summer. That’s how they get their bookings!
And yes, I’ve had people tell us to email them directly and they will give us a better rate. Ive never done that because I want the protection that going through the big companies offers.

We are going with another family and the trip is planned around their daughter's school vacation. We really want his particular house as it was just perfect last time and the rates are really good.

I think owners like renting to return visitors. I'd send another email.

I just emailed him with the info from the form in the automated response I got and told him we'd rented from him before and were interested again and that I was just concerned that there might have been a technical error etc. Hopefully we here soon! Both other times he was super fast on responses and very detailed etc.

I’d message the host only to find it has been booked from another site and the calendars weren’t updated. Many just didn’t even respond. Which I find rude.

The owner emailed me and we worked on dates that weren't on the VRBO site and got it all worked out. We had to fly on a Saturday, but that turned out to be cheaper.
