I will never understand our society's need to determine who gets food and who doesn't. It's sick.

I will never understand our society's need to determine who gets food and who doesn't. It's sick. It’s one way for people to feel superior to others. It’s more fun when you can look down on poor, desperate people.

That article is completely depressing.
Today’s Republican lawmakers are soulless robots.

You need to understand a simple fact. Those who call themselves Republicans or conservatives believe people chose to be poor. And the rich, because they are rich and not poor must be rewarded with tax cuts.

“ The idea is, by removing the safety net, people would be more eager to fill jobs in industries that are facing worker shortages.”
Jobs with subpar wages and also adding the burden of paying for child care. So, then people make too much for food assistance, most of their wages go toward child care, and they still end up hungry,
I really hate republicans. Soulless motherfuckers.

Let's remember that most of the country's citizens just got several stimulus checks over the past year. And many low income workers also received tax refunds recently. That could be a sudden influx of several thousand dollars into their bank accounts.
The government knows this money is there because they put it there.
But if you are low income, don't you dare try to leave some of it there. Don't you dare try to start a savings account with that windfall. Because when annual SNAP/Medicaid reporting time comes, if you still have a couple thousand unspent left to your name, you are rich! Congratulations, you are now wealthy! And being wealthy, you & your children no longer need food assistance or health insurance. And off that cliff you drop.
But surely, a couple grand that you managed to save will pay for all the needs that the food assistance and Medicaid covered previously. You are independently wealthy now.

Heaven forbid we give those who really need it some comfort of a little cushion. Or transportation (because that's not a money suck at all when it's an older car ). Or the ability to actually be able to not be in constant worry about the next surprise expense. They all need a very serious reality check which we know will never come. They'll live in their alternate universe and judge and condemn everyone else who is trying to scam them out of their money because they're poor by their own choice and they don't deserve it. They're not poor because of the politician's rules, their businesses paying the absolute minimum they can and the disappearing ability to choose when you become a parent. I am so very disgusted by people these days.
