I agree with all of you. I've been slowly going through our entire house, including all of my craft and art supplies. The way the industry has shrunk, plus how American Crafts are seemingly taking over, I understand the comment regarding we may not have alternatives to our stash in the future.
As for how I'm approaching cleaning out my house, I follow the old adage "how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." So I keep a shopping bag in my closet for donations. When filled, it goes into my car for the next time I pass Good Will. I also don't worry about cleaning out the whole house, an entire room, etc., a single day goal. It felt wonderful to just clean out the drawer below my in island microwave one day. Baby steps or small bites.
My other motto for my kids, both in their 20's, is "Shop at Mom's". I've told them that just about everything is "fair game" and I'll let them know if I still need it. Free for them and outta my house. My son and his fiance were here last week and my comment was all's probably fair game, except the diamonds!
Full disclosure, we are both retired and don't feel the pressure to clean everything out in a short period of time.
Good luck to all.
