This was a big deal, lol. I was on my way to see my mom at her assisted living and as I drove by the grocery store I remembered that she needs some more hand cream. So I swung into the parking lot and jumped out of the car without even thinking... got halfway across the lot and realized I hadn't grabbed a mask from my stash in the car. I hesitated a minute...my feet almost turned around to get it... But I realized that the store wasn't crowded and I was only going in for the hand cream. In and out. It's the first time in over a year that I've gone into a store with no mask. About half the people were wearing masks, the others were not. It was so odd. it felt risky, even though my brain knows that it wasn't likely since I'm fully vaccinated. But still... I think I'll still wear one when I go to do a big shopping since I'll be in the store for longer. Or maybe not... Anyone else having this same experience as we hopefully move out of this pandemic? Especially if you live in an area that had good mask compliance...

I’m at the point now where I’m not even taking a mask with me when I leave the house. The first time I left the house and realized that it didn’t even occur to me to take a mask with me was a good feeling.

My brother and I have talked about how weird it feels to go into places without masks on. He even said something to a cashier about feeling naked without the mask, and she said she felt that way too at first.
It also felt like I was breaking the rules, even though the stores had shifted their policies. I found myself looking to see if the employees were wearing masks, just because I felt hesitant without one. I found that it was about fifty-fifty, as far as employees, at least at first.

Oh my gosh, same here!! I went to a TJMaxx where my ODS lives. I got to the door and reached in my purse for my mask. It wasn't there. I stopped and same as you thought about going back to the car. Nope, I decided to breathe free store air. For the first time in 1 year and 2 mos. I felt like such a rebel. A fully vaccinated rebel! In this particular town, I was surprised there were still people wearing masks in the store. This is a bubble place "where Covid didn't exist". When I went to my DD's over the weekend, we didn't wear a mask. She has been hypervigilant about wearing one. She said all of us were vaccinated, we should be OK. We even went to a movie and didn't wear a mask. Just going to a movie and having movie popcorn was glorious.

It definitely feels weird. I've put it on for stores here and there.
Doctors, dentists, and massage still require it

I work for the district court but my department's office is temporarily in a different building while they remodel our floor (for the past year). We aren't wearing masks anymore in our office because there are only 11 of us and we area all vaccinated. I forgot my mask when I ran to the courthouse last week to turn in some paperwork. I realized once I was in the elevator. I felt like that dream where you're at school and realize you're not wearing clothes. But then I was like eh, I'm vaccinated.

Funny, I don't feel weird without it, I feel normal! I love seeing people's smiles again!

we haven't been required to wear them in stores, etc. around here as long as you're fully vaccinated. But my workplace was a bit slower to change- I had to wear a mask anywhere besides in my office until Monday. I was elated- ELATED, I tell you, lol, to realize when I was getting ready for work that I could pick any earrings I wanted because they weren't going to get caught in the mask!! And to see my coworkers' entire faces again?!? wonderful!!
(I did feel like I 'forgot' something or that I was naked, somehow, when I first started going places without one- but it wore off quickly, lol!!)

Oh, I will add I wanted to drop in Penzey's and grab a couple of jars of spices. I waltzed in with no mask. I heard a "ma'am, you need to wear a mask." I looked around and it was me! No problem I said and grabbed one at the door. So some places, vaccinated or not, still want you wearing masks.

I did the first few times.. this was about a month ago in our area.. I still had it in my hand though.. lol..
I just got back from vacation in Missouri and Oklahoma and it's like the word covid didn't exist or masks... I think I saw less than 5% wearing them.
Edited to add: I have to wear mine everyday though at work and still getting tested once a week. I can't wait until this is over!

We are about a week in now with no more mask mandates. I still see maybe 70-80% wearing masks. Most employees are still wearing masks. One employee at a store told me I could take mine off. Felt strange because she was still wearing hers. Some stores have in big letters “Mask Required” then in smaller letters under it “If you are not vaccinated”. 😁

I was in Oklahoma/Missouri/Arkansas last October and it was the same deal. No masks anywhere. I walked into a restaurant in Oklahoma wearing a mask and they looked at me like I had three heads.

i went to costco the other day without a mask. dh kept his on. most people were masked but enough people were not that i felt comfortable that i wasn't going to get run out of the store.
i was also unmasked when dropping off my package at the post office and i was unmasked during one trip to the grocery store. i've been unmasked all day at the office.

I'm fully vaccinated, and live in a fairly low risk area, but with the new strains of virus being introduced, our province is still pretty strict about masks and social distancing. Even after the restrictions are lifted, I think I'll just wear it for another while, until I'm totally comfortable with the idea.
But yay for all of you who can now go mask-free! I can just imagine the freedom you are feeling.

We just got back from Mexico, where masking is still required in every public place and most people even wear them out on the street. They are pretty militant about temp checks and making you sanitize your hands when you enter a restaurant, too. Wouldn't have been a big deal if it hadn't been so dang hot! Oh well. It was still very much worth going.
I have to say, though, that I was pleased to go into Walgreens here this morning and see some people without masks. And then to our little gym, where no one was wearing them at all. Yay for science!

I'm loving the freedom too! It did feel strange the first time. Most in my area still mask. As the days go on though you see the percentage of mask wearers going down.
It's an exhilarating feeling, and yes, very yay for sciencey!

I'm a renegade. I'll be wearing my mask for a very long time. High risk and all. Ditto. Got the "continue on as before being vaccinated" order from docs. I'm less stressed about it but am still following the rules. It is getting old. Hell, it's been old. Long time.

I like wearing a mask, though it took a while to find two types that are very comfortable because they don’t touch my mouth. It’s no coincidence the flu season was so much milder this year, and I get very sick for a long time even from what starts as a simple cold. And I’m high risk. Plus I like not putting on makeup. Everyone’s still wearing them in stores here anyway. But I might continue.

Of course some of that is social distancing, but some of it is masks also. I just might do it.

I haven't done it yet. I don't go into many stores anyway honestly, but will continue to mask for awhile anyway. I want to see what this Delta variant is going to do and how the vaccinations will hold up to it.

I am fully vaccinated now and planned to wear a mask even though I don't have to because of young kids not being vaccinated yet. But for the past two weeks, only 10% of children under 12 seem to be wearing a mask. So I figured if they aren't wearing masks, no need for me to wear a mask. But I am so used to wearing one, I feel strange not having one on in a store. But I have only been fully vaccinated for a week, so probably I will feel comfortable not wearing a mask soon!
Only a few people wear masks in our area now. But we do have a good number of people vaccinated in our county!

I think a big piece of mask magic is we don’t touch things/surfaces that sick people have touched and then touch our mouth/nose/eyes.

We stopped wearing our masks maybe a few months ago. The only place still requiring one is the assisted living facility where my mom lives.

I didn’t wear last week when out with hubby but did wear one in the library yesterday. I figured I saw 10 employees wearing them. They were much nicer snd friendlier than normal. I may wear them for a bit more until we know more about the Delta. I don’t go out often so it’s not really that big of a deal. I’m still doing curbside not out of fear of germs but because it saves me time snd is easier.

I haven’t done it yet! Though I did join a sort-of gym and I am not wearing a mask there. I’ve been wearing them into stores and restaurants until I sit down. At work it is still required.
