In the winter I can go 7 days. This time of year, I can go 5. The humidity makes a difference. Later in the summer when it’s really humid will be 4 days. I have hair past my bra strap, and it’s very thick.
I use dry shampoo, and straighten it daily to help. Sometimes I’ll hit the underside with a hair dryer.

My hair is shoulder length and curly. I wash daily or every other day. My hair is a frizzy mess if I don't. I've tried it all. Silk plowcase, hair up at night, etc. But it's a frizzy, greasy mess if I don't wash every day.

During the school year, every day. I have fine hair that looks awful after sleeping on it, and gets greasy right away. I've tried dry shampoo, etc., but nothing really works except a fresh wash.
In the summer, I let it go a couple of days because nobody cares about my funky butt. Haha!

I wash every day…I always have. Currently it’s shoulder length but regardless of the length, I wash it every day. I don’t color my hair or use heat to style…so I think my hair is pretty healthy.

I wash may hair Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday morning, and sometimes Sunday night. I find when it's short can actually skip the Sunday night. When I let it grow, that's when I have issues.

Thank you guys for showing me that there's a huge range of normal. I don't feel so gross after reading the poll results and your comments. Ha! But just to update, when I took my hair down last night, it felt grungy. So I ended up taking a hot shower before bed last night and washing my hair. I had a nice cup of tea and then hit the sheets.

When I was working, I washed it daily. I absolutely hate the smell of stinky dirty hair. I worked at a computer and frequently had people standing behind me as I developed a template for their project. They would be right above my head and frequently bending over to point at the monitor putting them even closer. If my hair smelled, I would be so embarrassed.
Now that I no longer work, I was typically washing it every other day. Although during the pandemic, since I wasn't leaving the house, I would wash it and just put it up in a clip while damp. My hair stayed cleaner and I found I could go up to 4 days with it feeling super clean and smelling fresh. I attributed that to the fact that I didn't blow dry and style it, I didn't use any product on it, and I only brushed it a couple of times a day.
I have longer hair that is about 4 inches past my shoulders at this point.

I have a ton of hair and it goes to the middle of my back. I wash it about every 3-4 days, but also use a dry shampoo + oil on the ends of my hair. I use Olaplex oil or Moroccan oil.
I found a shower cap that I absolutely love as it has terry cloth on the inside and keeps any shower moisture out of my hair on non wash days. At night I have a scrunchi that I pull it up in and sleep.

I used to be an every-other-day hair washer, but after I hurt my shoulder a couple of years ago, I started needing a hot shower every day to help ease the pain, and thought while I'm here getting wet anyway, I may as well wash my hair. So, you get used to that, and now I shampoo every day.
My hair is usually short, but with not being able to visit my stylist, it's growing out. Not quite shoulder-length, but getting there.

I wash my hair every two days. I also take a shower every other day, unless I'm doing physical activity. I know that grosses some of you out but my skin is very dry and I've found that I itch a lot less when I go every other day. My hair used to be super greasy so I'd wash it every day, and when I was a teenager sometimes twice a day. Fortunately in middle age it has dried out enough that I can skip days. Sometimes I can go a third day if I put my hair up in a clip.

This thread is fascinating. I would not have thought there were that many people who dont wash their hair daily!

I used to have to swim in lotion for my skin to not be dry and itchy, and I have to shower every day if not twice a day (I run). We've had a water softener for about a year now and I can go without putting lotion on and not be an itchy mess. I would be miserable before, especially in the winter. Having soft water has saved my skin.

It’s harder this time of year because I’m drenched in sweat the minute I step outside.

I'm just curious how often you wash your hair. If you comment will you tell me if you have long or short hair? I am growing my hair out. It's down past my shoulders now. I usually wear my hair short. Chin-length or shorter so this is a new change for me. With short hair, I was an everyday washer. Maybe every other day, just depending on how lazy I was. Now that I'm growing my hair out longer, I am trying to keep it healthy and minimize breakage. I washed my hair on Sunday and I was anticipating washing it today but I woke up thinking it doesn't look greasy or anything at my roots, so maybe I will just pull it up and go on about my day and wash tomorrow. The idea of this is so far off my norm, though, that it's grossing me out a bit. Is this gross? And I will admit that how often I wash my hair is a question my psychiatrist asks me so that is coloring my view. I know hair washing, for me, tends to fall off when I'm depressed, as does other forms of self-care. I do think right now, I'm suffering a low grade depression brought on by stress. But I don't think it's factoring in on my hair washing frequency. I'm so sorry about the depression. I fully understand that self-care does take a hit when we're overwhelmed or depressed.
I"ll try to attach a pic of my hair during Covid. I just had it cut a few weeks ago and it's back to shoulder length. STILL, my hair is SO thick and it's curly, so it's a lot to handle no matter what!! It takes a few minutes to comb it out in the shower and it takes 2 hours to blow it out and either flat-iron or put some curl back into it. Then I don't touch it for a week. Curly hair tends to be very dry, so it never gets greasy.
The idea of the combing and then 2 hour blow-dry is daunting. I have to feel up to it, so I don't blame you at all. Hope you feel better and that you're getting help with therapy, etc. Sorry you're going thru this period in your life. xo

Your hair looks pretty @bergdorfblonde and thank you for the well wishes. I know this is stress induced and it will pass. In the meantime, I'm just sleeping a lot.

Mine is dependent on what I have going one. Never more than every other day and usually it’s 2x a week. And that is with me exercise daily. I work from home with occasional in person work things. Dry shampoo is my friend along with buns and pony tails. Although I personally feel second day hair is best in me. Day 3 is usually sketchy (oily) and if I’m able to hold out until day 4 for some weird reason that day is pretty good.

I have 2 people here with depression/anxiety, and they sleep a lot. DH has a reason--he's very worried about his cancer coming back. Worries me that he's this exhausted but it could be depression.
Are you talking to whomever prescribes your meds about this new depression? They added Abilify to DD's meds. It's just making her sleepy though. I do see that when DH speaks to his therapist, he has new ideas about dealing with his anxiety and depression. Hope yours either subsides or your doctor gives you new ideas. xo

I don't believe what is going on with me is due to a medication failure. And it's not so pervasive I cannot function. I can just feel it dragging me down a bit and lingering there. I'm still able to work and tend to my kids right now. I think that until I process the trauma of this last suicide attempt and see my DD doing alright for a while it's going to linger a bit. In other words, I think I just need time. Time where things run smooth for a bit. And I did call my therapist. I am seeing her during this time too.

Wash my hair with actual Shampoo? Or clean it with a co wash conditioner? At the very least I rinse my hair everyday in the summer - have no choice it’s sweaty. I use shampoo every 7-10 days whenever I feel it needs it. I use a co wash conditioner pretty much daily in the summer but probably every other day when it’s not so hot out.

I am an everyday hair washer and I have long hair.
If I try to shower without washing my hair (pull my hair up into a bun for the shower), my hair gets frizzy from the hot water and the texture feels weird to me, so it’s just easier to wash it then style it.
I admit, I have high maintenance hair. It’s thick and I have a lot of it, and it requires me to blow dry it and either straighten or curl it daily. My natural hair is a frizzy/wavy mess if I let it dry on its own so I usually dry it immediately after I get out of the shower.

Every 5-7 days. More than that, and I’m itching so bad that I wake up to blood on my pillow. And yes, I have tried every prescription shampoo known to man.

On average 2 to 3 days. My hair is chin length in a bob and dead straight. When I used to go to the office I would usually wash it every other day but now that I'm still working from home I can leave it an extra day.
Although I have a good head of hair it's very fly away but doesn't get greasy if I leave it longer. I wash it because that is the only way I can get some body into it and lift it so that it doesn't look so flat.

The shorter it is, the more often I wash it.
When it was down the middle of my back, I'd wash it three times a week.
Now, it's just barely touching my shoulders, and it's just about everyday. I love that clean, clean feeling.

I answered daily. I have fine, thin hair that looks terrible on day 2 and feels worse. My hair is dry/damaged, but my scalp can get a bit oily. Because of this thread and a weird timing issue on Friday AM, I did not take a shower/wash my hair when I woke up. I sleep in a ponytail so I dry shampooed, brushed it through and put it back up in a ponytail. By midday my scalp felt disgusting, although my hair looked decent, but by end of day that was no longer true. It looked and felt oily.
