I'm just curious how often you wash your hair. If you comment will you tell me if you have long or short hair?
I am growing my hair out. It's down past my shoulders now. I usually wear my hair short. Chin-length or shorter so this is a new change for me. With short hair, I was an everyday washer. Maybe every other day, just depending on how lazy I was. Now that I'm growing my hair out longer, I am trying to keep it healthy and minimize breakage. I washed my hair on Sunday and I was anticipating washing it today but I woke up thinking it doesn't look greasy or anything at my roots, so maybe I will just pull it up and go on about my day and wash tomorrow. The idea of this is so far off my norm, though, that it's grossing me out a bit. Is this gross?
And I will admit that how often I wash my hair is a question my psychiatrist asks me so that is coloring my view. I know hair washing, for me, tends to fall off when I'm depressed, as does other forms of self-care. I do think right now, I'm suffering a low grade depression brought on by stress. But I don't think it's factoring in on my hair washing frequency.

It's between every day and every other day.. just depends on what I am doing and how I wear it for the day. My hair is between neck and shoulder.

I have short hair, and I've been styling it for its natural curl rather than blowing it out. I usually wash every other day, because it's color treated and fades more quickly if I wash more. But sometimes I do wash it every day - when I'm not just working at home and out and about.
I don't think it's gross at all. Lots of people just wash their hair once or twice a week.

I have always had long hair, but until a few years ago was an every day washer. My hair would look greasy and just matted down. Then I saw a video from Kate (small things blog) about how she keeps her hair looking good. She said she puts her hair in a high pony tail at night using a satin scrunchie. That was a game changer for me. I do use dry shampoo on the day I don't wash my hair. What bugs me the most is that my ends get dry and don't feel as good the second day. But I like not having to take the time to dry and style my hair.
I have a friend who has gorgeous hair. Awhile ago she posted about how to go a week without washing. I would love to be able to do that and have hair that looked like hers, but I don't think that is possible for me. Once in awhile I will go a third day, usually if I am just going to be home. But my hair doesn't look great that day and is up in a pony tail.

When I'm going to school (substitute teacher) I wash it every day if I have a job that day. If not, if I'm just home doing random stuff, it's every other day. When I'm on call at the hospital and I stay in their on-call rooms overnight I usually spend two nights there. I take a shower each night but I don't wash my hair with water, instead I use dry shampoo. My hair is pretty long now and it's risky to wash it because if I get paged I don't want to rush off to a patient while my hair is dripping. haha

Medium length hair with natural curls. I was it every other day and sometimes go an extra day if it looks okay. My hair doesn’t get greasy but it doesn’t look great after a couple days.

My hair is between chin and shoulder length now and I wash it everyday. It always looks like something was nesting in it overnight. I almost always just let it air dry so it's not a big deal to wash it daily.

I have short hair. I wash it every day. Before the pandemic, I had a really short pixie cut and washed it every other day. Now I'm kinda growing it out and back to washing it every day like I did when it was shoulder length.

But my hair doesn't look great that day and is up in a pony tail. I'm really prone to dry hair, too. My ends tend to split. I've gone back to my natural color too. It seems to me and this seems a bit weird maybe that the less I wash, the less greasy at the roots it actually is. Which seems counterintuitive, I know. ETA: right now I haven't been exercising either. So the sweat factor isn't there either.

My hair is shoulder length and I wash it every 2/3 days. If I'm feeling particularly lazy I sometimes just wash the fringe as that's the bit that looks greasy.

Once a week. My hair is past my bra strap and quite thick and heavy. It doesn't get greasy, but toward the end of the week my scalp will smell sweaty or "stale", which is something you can address with a dry shampoo or a spritz of rose water. After shampooing with an unscented low lather shampoo, I rinse my hair with diluted apple cider vinegar which gives it a good shine and keeps me from getting an itchy scalp. If you are combing and/or brushing your hair daily, styling it, and getting regular cuts, you don't need to feel like you are slacking off when you skip the daily shampoo. I've never been a daily shampoo person, but post menopause I just don't have that much oil in my hair, so this works for me at this point in my life.

Every day, but my hair is short (pixie length). I would skip days and use dry shampoo when it was long, but my hair is thin and fine and never looked good enough to wear down by day 2, especially if I had worked out. Ick. Honestly, it’s one of the major reasons I cut my hair off - it almost never looks good down when it’s longer, and I also don’t much like the way I look with my hair pulled back.
(I just went out and did a round of HIIT and I’m a soaking mess - I can’t imagine NOT washing my hair like this. )

Currently no hair and every other day . Normally it's short and I wash it twice a week. ETA: some people's hair gets greasy and smelly quickly. Other people have scalp that produces less oil. It dries skin out being washed too often for its type, so your own correct personal hygiene is just that - personal. If you smell, you need to wash more, but other than that and your own personal (again) indicator of your own mental health, it's nobody else's business.

(I just went out and did a round of HIIT and I’m a soaking mess - I can’t imagine NOT washing my hair like this. ) Yes, of course, if I was working up a sweat, I'd be washing more frequently. Right now, I'm taking a sabbatical from running...again, depression. So sweat is not a factor really. Our weather even has been mild this week for summer.

I want to add that I do sweat and not wash my hair. According to the Peloton FB groups, I'm not alone. I will dry the roots of my hair then use dry shampoo. If my whole head was sopping wet like I just washed my hair, I probably would just wash it, though. jeremysgirl I remember reading that you could "train" your hair to not need to be washed as often. It does seem counterintuitive, but maybe our scalp produces less oil if there is already oil there? Kind of like using a facial oil to reduce oiliness?

Twice a week. Usually Tuesday and Friday. More in the summer when we swim. I have medium long hair. Its way better for my hair to let it be.

Generally every other day for my chin length hair, but if I’m just home in the third day? Then I might skip that one too occasionally.
In the summer, I often have to at least rinse it daily if we get in the pool. But I’ll skip the shampoo usually if I do that.

I can't imagine not washing my hair after a workout. If I workout everyday, then I have to wash it everyday. I have a friend who only washed it a couple times a week. I asked her how she could do that, she said it was simple, she didn't work out.
Dry shampoo is fine but it won't work if my head is really sweaty. If I don't have a need, I could go 3 days between and even then it isn't greasy. It just starts to itch.

until covid hit I was an every day hair washer, but now I'm mostly every other day - unless I have plans that require my hair to look better. I also cut my hair just a few months ago. It was below my shoulders but I realized I was wearing it in a ponytail most days so I cut it to just below chin length

I don't think it's gross at all. Lots of people just wash their hair once or twice a week. I wash my hair every 4-5 days. Between the colored hair and dry scalp, anything more is just too drying. Sometimes I'll stretch it to day 6 with dry shampoo. I've grown my hair out this past year to just below my shoulders, plus it is really thick and wavy and takes a minimum of 20 minutes to blow dry.

My hair is quite fine. In normal times I wash my hair every second day. But since I've been working from home for the last 15 months, I often stretch it out an extra day. It does look a bit oily on the third day, so I usually use dry shampoo or baby powder on it. If I was going out on the third day, I would definitely wash my hair.
My DD has thick hair like her aunty on her dad's side. Both of them only wash their hair once a week. I wish I could go that long between washes!

My normal is to wash every 3rd or 4th day. I did have to train my hair, but mainly my brain to not wash everyday. I always give myself a good blowout and flat iron it so on the days I don't wash it's super easy to touch up the bed head parts with my flat iron. It just saves so much time to not wash and style my hair daily.

I wash my hair every day - there is no way I could stand not too.
My hair is pixie short and I wake up with the worst bed hair. No one sees me before I shower!

After I lost most of my hair after a long hospital stay a couple of years ago, it came in very thick and curly. I find that the curls get curlier the longer I go without washing it so I average about twice a week using dry shampoo on the roots. When it was straight and flat, I had to wash it and curl it everyday.

Word for word what Merge said. My hair is very fine and thin and not much of it. I finally admitted that I cannot wear my hair very long. I really wish I could. Instead I’ve opted to wear it short (a longish pixie), I have it professionally cut and colored, and wash it every day with a sulfate free, thickening shampoo. I like the shampoo I use, but someone here mentioned a color-extend shampoo that sounded interesting, so I’m in search of that. I’d love to wash it less frequently, but it just doesn’t work for me. Besides, I shower every morning, so washing my hair at the same time is really no big deal because it’s so short. I really think this is a personal preference thing. I’ve had comments because I’m over 60 and still color my hair. I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. Sorry, not sorry.

It was oily by the end of the day. Now she can go 3-4 days. The more you scrub and wash the oil away the more you make. I have wavy hair so it's naturally dry. I could almost a week without washing it and using no dry shampoo before it would look a bit greasy. But I had short hair for years and would wash it in the shower each day and love the feeling of a clean scalp and clean hair. I tried having it long and wavy but it didn't hold a nice wave and I still needed to wet it each day so I got tired of that and went back to short. Sometimes I do every other day.
