Have you always been a Canadiens fan? Or are you now a temporary one in honour of their run for this years Stanley cup?
found myself cheering like crazy for them last night! And I don’t remember EVER cheering for them before!

I have always been a Habs fan. My dad grew up outside Montreal. (I had to pretend to be a Leafs fan the 4 years I lived in Toronto as a teen.)

Hey, I was a REAL Leafs fan. Then became an Oilers fan. Neither of those roles left a lot of love free for the Habs LOL.

I'm a Leafs fan, Oilers second so I won't be jumping on the bandwagon but I won't be cheering for the other team, whether it's Tampa Bay or New York. Dh is a Sens fan and his second favourite is whomever the Leafs are playing so he'll happily cheer for the Habs.

My dad was a diehard (no pun intended) Canadians fan so much so we had the debate to bury him in his Canadians jersey or his Yankees one. The Yankees one won out. Before the Oilers joined the NHL I cheered alongside him. Then I became an Oilers fan and now living in Ottawa I am a Sens fan. I will cheer for any Canadian team EXCEPT the Leafs. Go Habs Go.

I was anti-Vegas this series.
If NY makes it, I will.cheer for them as they have players that used to be on the Devils and the Avs.
If TB makes it, I'll cheer for Montreal.
Eta- not from Canada, but I rarely miss posting on a hockey thread.

It is not like that you could physically change the course of the game. It is a game -- Entertainment, not life altering experience. Anyway, I am glad that a Canadian Team is in the finals. Go Habs Go!

My husband's childhood best friend was playing in Montreal the last time they won the Cup, so I was a fan then ... and then a fan of whatever team he happened to be with, or whatever team other guys we knew were playing for ... and now we're old enough that it's the kids of friends playing, lol! So I'm not sure if I can be described as a wagon jumper or if there's another term for my ever-evolving allegiances?!

I am a team fan first and if my team isn't playing, then I can cheer for a team based on players...unless they are on Vegas, Ranger, Flyers...

I have always been a Canadiens fan. I am so happy for them right now - it's been a long time coming.
I had an aunt who was also a devoted Montreal fan. She would come over to watch games with us. We took her to the Toronto Airport one time to pick up her son, my cousin, who was flying in from London for a visit with her. This would have been back in the 70's. We were waiting and waiting for his flight to arrive, when we heard over the loudspeaker system "Will the members of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team please report to the Alleghany flight desk". Well, the three of us hightailed it over to that area and ended up getting about 10 autographs from the team members. It was seriously one of the highlights of my life! I remember that Bob Gainey was one of the nicest ones. He had a toothpick sticking out of his mouth and talked around it. He was great!
I am so excited for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in a long time. Go, Habs, go!

I'm still pissed at the Wild for a game 7 loss in 2003 Generally I can move on but you will NEVER find a Canucks fan rooting for the Bruins. grammadee , I only know a couple of life long Habs fans and they were cheering for them back in the days of the original 6 teams. They are over the moon right now. Given the choices, I'll be rooting for them to win this year.

I just love hockey. I will always find a team to root for. Often love the Leafs. Used to hate the Oilers but like them now that Messier & Gretzky are gone. Cheered for Vancouver in 2011, but knew they were going to find a way to lose.
I will cheer for Montreal in spite of myself, because at this point, Bergevin isn't getting fired regardless (he saved his job when they won the first round), so I may as well. And Tampa won last year.

Capitals fan here. I've been cheering for the Habs this series, mostly because I'm a big fan of Carey Price and (lately) also of Cole Caulfield ever since I watched him in the world juniors - great up-and-coming player. MTL has had a great run so far and I really hope they win the Cup! Last night's game was insane! Also, as a Caps fan I will never ever cheer for Vegas (despite ex-Capital Chandler Stephenson -- who won a Cup with the Caps -- being a Golden Knight). And also one of DD#2's best friends is a Habs fan along with his whole family - they live near MTL. I was really hoping the Islanders would win gm 7 tonight, but it wasn't to be. I wanted them over the Lightning because of ex-Caps Barry Trotz and Semyon Varlamov. Even though I'm a pretty die-hard Caps fan, I definitely have a lot of respect and admiration for individual players from other teams, some because they are ex-Caps, and others because they're just damn good hockey players and fun to watch (Carey Price and Cole Caulfield fall into this category). ETA: like freecharlie, I rarely miss commenting on an ice hockey thread :-) and GO HABS!!!!!!!

Not a Canadian--I'm a Rangers fan in NYS. My mom grew up in Montreal and I have lots of family up there. So for their sake I'll lean Montreal in the finals (even though the Rangers actually finished with one more point than Montreal in the regular season league standings ). My very first Rangers game was actually at the Forum vs MTL in 1982 on a visit to see my grandparents. I was a teen and my BFF and I made a whole bunch of signs to hold up at the game---then sat on them the entire time when we realized we were the only Blueshirts in our section and were surrounded by less than receptive Habs fans! Like all Rangers fans, I'm just happy the Islanders were tossed.

I’m a (constantly) disappointed Canucks fan who is happy to see a Canadian team make this far since the Canucks in 2011. I will be cheering for the Habs!

not a hockey fan... grew up with my dad and bro playing, my youngest plays. i do love watching hockey just not on tv. and i couldn't afford to see an NHL game here!!!
i live in toronto. if i was a habs fan, i would have to either do it quietly with the blinds drawn (lol!) or be prepared to be heckled and constantly ribbed about it.

Growing up in Nova Scotia my blood was blue. My dad rooted for the Habs my whole life. I had to take some "gentle" ribbing when Montreal beat out my Leafs. I do live in the southern US now though and I have come to love the Predators. I have seen them play several times in Smashville!! So I kind of love my childhood team and my "localish" to me team. It's hard because I never get to the see the Leafs play. I have ESPN plus but I never get lucky.
