I'm all for it when kids are older like junior high and up and have a better understanding of when and where it is appropriate.

My son sent me a picture of three giant wild turkeys that had surrounded his car. I texted back "They know the rules, gas, grass or ass." Wouldn't have had the same effect if I had said sex.

We never allowed our kids to cuss, so we didn't cuss in front of them, but we did cuss when they weren't around. Dh rarely cusses, but I'm not as disciplined. Growing up we were never allowed to say darn or shut up. Those were cuss words in my childhood home. So, I think I let loose when I hit my twenties. Though, I am very careful and don't cuss in public, ever. My kids are adults and one rarely, if ever cusses. If he does it's a quote from something or someone else. My other kid does cuss, but he doesn't do it in public. Like oh yvonne , I'm a car cusser. It doesn't help and the other driver can't hear me, but something about calling a bad driver an A*ole is satisfying in the moment.

Reminds me of the time I got a call at work from youngest DS's teacher. She said he had used the F word. I was shocked and blamed it on his older brother. Then the teacher said yes, he said fart. I just burst out laughing. Fart? I thought it was going to be much worse.

Oh good I was waiting for someone else to say it. I hate the word cuss. Sounds like you are babying the word curse. Just saying curse like a fucking adult. And yes, I curse and so do my kids (but not really in front of their father because my husband doesn't care for it all that much. We grew up in different households). Funny about using the worse cuss instead of curse, we don’t use the word curse either in Australia LOL. We just call it swearing.

We're a cussing family.
We kept cussing on the DL until DS was about 12. Then it was all bets off and now (DS is 20) and we cuss up a storm. Even my almost 80 year old MIL is a minor cusser (s-word, and maybe the very seldom f-word).
NBD for us.

I didn't know how to answer this because my parents never cussed, or at least I never heard it. I think I said damn in front of my mother once and knew I was never going to do that again.
I've never heard my nephews cuss, either. My sister has checked my nephew's texts and said he has quite a colorful vocabulary on there, but she also said she has never heard him cuss in real life.
I cuss now, but only occasionally.

I'm married to a general contractor. We swear around here! DD is 21 and does also. When she was a child, no, we didn't let her swear, but she never tried except once as a toddler and we hid our giggles and told her not to and that was the end of it. Once she got to high school she'd let the occasional swear out but we told her not around us and not around teachers, older people, grandparents etc. Now she's a bit of a sailor but I still remind her there is a time and place. But at home, around close family and friends who do the same, we say what we want. In public, we try to be aware of our surroundings and volume.
