Ds just started his first job. Because of timing, his first check wasn't deposited, but loaded onto a payroll called rapid paycard.
We are trying to get it set up. Once we do, can he just transfer the full amount to his checking account or do we have to find an ATM? What happens to the balance if it isn't an even number or the change?

They put his pay on payroll card that wasn't set up? Does he have the card? Once it's set up and he has it in hand he can transfer the entire balance.

Once it's set up and he has it in hand he can transfer the entire balance. apparently they have immediate cards without a name for the first payroll We were trying to get it set up last night. Once he gets up, we will try to transfer the balance I just didn't know if we could.

You should be able to transfer. Will he be able to set up direct deposit to his own bank account? Posting his pay to a non-active card could be seen as not paying him on payday. Which is a big NO NO. At least in California it is.
I hope he gets this cleared up today!

He was just hired so close to cut off that direct deposit wasn't set up for this check (there is only one day on it) but will be for the next one (we hope)

I've had companies that did this. I worked at LegoLand and if you wanted to have direct deposit to your own personal acct it was biweekly and you had to pay $5 per pay period for the option. If you used their paycard there were no fee and pay was every week on Wednesday. Many chose their paycard option instead and just would go to the ATM and withdrawl whatever amount and deposit it in their own bank, but leave a small amount on the paycard to keep it valid.

Each card will be different. Most come with at least 1 check in the envelope so he can write a check to himself but they should all have some kind of ATM where he can also pull all of the money off the card.
Every state also has restrictions on how you can pay an employee. In my state, I can enforce direct deposit so my employees are assigned a pay card if they do not have a bank account but in some states, we can only encourage it by mailing live checks even if the state says I have to give them options. If he's able, I would have him double and triple check the account and routing numbers he's turned in. 95% of my payroll issues are from employees who didn't key their info in correctly and then have to wait a week for it to be returned before we'll deposit the funds into a different account.

He should get it dd next paycheck. The pulling it out at an ATM is where we get stuck. He made 108.63 for the one day he worked. He could get the 100 at an ATM, but how does he get the 8.63?

When I get weird amounts like that, I buy an Amazon gc in that amount. Could you “buy” it off him?
