So I have recently come to grips that I have wide-ass feet, no matter how much I imagine myself with dainty, ladylike, narrow feet. Which mainly means I've realized I'm more bothered by the ongoing foot pain than by the PITA of finding shoes that fit properly.
I tried Birkenstocks in the regular size and they are just a pinch too narrow. Any suggestions of sandals with that kind of orthopaedic foot bed but for wider feet? Anyone tried Vionics? They seem expensive but maybe they're worth it?
I also need sneakers and court shoes so any suggestions for those would also be appreciated.

Hmm, the regular Birks fit my wide feet perfectly. Did you try the standard Arizona style from them, or one of the other styles?
Vionics are good but not wider than Birks. SAS makes an extra-wide width that you might like. All my nicer work shoes at this point are Vionics or SAS, and I wear Birks or sneakers for casual. My favorite sneakers are Saucony.
(Like you, I dream of having long, narrow, dainty feet, but I am apparently part Hobbit.)

I just replaced my old pair of Birkenstock’s and the new pair felt pretty narrow at first. They never cut into my foot or caused me any pain, they just felt narrow. After wearing them a few times they fit my feet perfectly. Maybe the same would be true for you? REI and Nordstrom have pretty generous return policies in case they don’t stretch out after a few wearings??

When I was in Germany there were entire stores just dedicated to Birkenstock. Can you imagine? Anyway they were half price there compared to what they cost here and I didn't bring any sandals with me on my trip. They were having a heat wave at the time I was there (end of May and it was in the high 80's F) so I decided to buy a pair. I'd been walking every day for 3 weeks prior during my vacation for hours every day and because of this my feet were swollen. I normally wear a size 7 regular. The shoe store lady measured my feet and said I needed a pair in wide. I assured her my feet were swollen and that I normally didn't wear a wide but she said if I wanted to wear them now I needed a wide. So that's what I bought. Because they were so cheap I actually bought a pair in my normal size too.
All of this to say that Birkenstock does make their sandals in wide too. Now, can you find them state side? I don't know. It might be worth searching online to see if you can find a store in Germany that ships them to the USA. The price difference may make it worth it.

Their shoes here in the US are marked either M/W or narrow. I saw how cheap they were when I was in Germany two years ago. Wish I'd bought some! At that point I hadn't yet come to terms with my need for comfortable footwear.

Vionics might have some options for you. I've had these that aren't technically wide but the velcro adjusts to customize fit. It looks like they have some other styles with velcro - these are cute and do come in wides.

I have very very wide feet--like 4E I find clarks sandals wide work for me.. (I wear the kind with three straps in front and around the back.) keens and most of other shoes are too narrow. new balance for sneakers. 4E.. walking shoes.
propet is another brand on zappos that has extra wide.. I use their hiking boots and snow booties.

I find that most shoes I look at on DSW or Zappos come in wide widths. I just order several that I like and send back the ones that I don’t want. Zappos and Amazon have free return policies for this purpose.

I bought a pair of Cushionaire brand Birk knockoff sandals from Amazon in wide. Love them for around the yard. They are actually more comfortable than my real Birks.

The only Birks I can wear are the Arizona, and if I go up a size, they fit. They take some breaking in, but that’s pretty common with Birks IMO. That’s why they got my feet so good, because they’re formed to my big old wide flat feet.
As for sneakers, I wear ASICS. I almost exclusively get my shoes on Zappos, and filter to wide.
My feet have never been thin and dainty. Always cluncky, wide and flat. And my big toe is so rediculously short, it often looks like I don’t have one in my Birks. I cannot wear any shoe that has the big toe loop, it literally doesn’t loop around my toe.

I have found that Mephisto fit my slightly wide arch sensitive feet better than Birks. I second HOKA and Asics for tennis shoes. The casual tennis shoe that I find comfy are Sperry's and I recently found a pair of Echo that are super comfy.

I'm in Canada (no Nordstrom or REI) and I'm afraid that if I wear them a few times to see if they stretch and they don't, I won't be able to return them. I have so many cute shoes in my closet that I was sure would stretch lol.

I like Teva. I’ve always found them to have good arch support and fit my extra wide feet really well.

I've got narrow feet, but bad knees. I finally invested in Vionics when my office started making noises about wanting us to come back in, but we could wear sneakers. I got sneakers and slides for the pool and they really do work. I spent 99% of my time walking at Universal in my vionic sneakers and while sore, my knees did not hurt the way they would have had I been in less supportive shoes. If you can find them in wide I'd say go for it.

Dansko sandals. New Balance sneakers. I also own Clarks, Munro and Mephisto ($$$). I scour Nordstrom Rack. The Dansko stores also carry good brands in addition to Dansko and they have good seasonal sales. They also have an online outlet.

I bought a pair of Spenco in wide and I’m amazed at how much room there is in the toe area but the rest fits well and stays on my foot. When I’m trying a new style or brand I’ll check to see if QVC carries it because I know I can return it (and pay shipping) after wearing them. Normally I buy my shoes on Zappos because I like the speedy shipping but you can’t return them once they’re worn.

I have Fred Flintstone feet. Clarks sandals work great for me.
My big secret for sneakers: go to the men's side of the store! Wide sizes are easier to find, and I have not had trouble finding comfortable sneakers since I started shopping men's. I even get some of my casual shoes (loafers, suede lace-ups...) over there now.

Dh has trouble finding mountain biking shoes with a wide enough toe box. When he gets new ones we take them down to the show repair guy and he has a gizmo that stretches the width where he needs it.
Maybe that would work with some of your existing shoes.

I have extra wide feet, am overweight, and these have worked very well for me for at least the last dozen years. The model I get is also great for my PsA (lots of bone spurs and swollen joints) and plantar fasciitis. Whatever athletic shoe you end up with, I recommend going to an actual running store for a professional fitting. Wear your current athletic shoes so they can look at your wear patterns. They should do that, watch your gait, and ask you questions and will give you brand and model recommendations based on that.

Another vote for Spenco. I bought them on Zulily a couple months ago and I love the footbed. The arch support is great and they fit my wide foot beautifully. I know you’re looking for a Birkenstock type shoe but definitely consider giving these a try.

I have wide feet and since having foot surgery a couple years ago, now I NEED wide shoes to accommodate my custom orthotics and I can’t just size up anymore. My go-to for tennis shoes / sneakers are Rocket Dog Jazzins specifically. They’re pretty much the only shoes I can buy in my former actual size. I have about five pairs of them now but my oldest pair will need to be retired soon because I’ve literally worn them out.
If you like more of a mule, their Athena mule sneakers are also quite wide but I did go up a half size on those.

This is my favorite review site for comfy shoes that address a range of foot issues. The navigation links at the top of the site allow you to look for shoes based on various physical foot/toe issues. I also get her newsletter, which comes out a few times a year, lots of great info: Barking Dog Shoes

I have wide feet and problem feet. No cute, dainty shoes for me. Teva sandals have been awesome for me and so have Asics for sneakers. Clarks for heels, boots, or booties.
