Sorry for the ‘bullied’ label but I can’t think of a better word.
Ok, so I had quite a lot of ‘phone time’ this past weekend when my dog was sick and we laid around together. I’m not liking some of the vibes I’m getting on some videos. I feel I can’t even describe it but I get patriarchal vibes to stay in my place from some of them.
Example: a girl on a date getting mad about splitting the check - guy on the twin/pair video ‘lecturing’ about gender equality and how ‘some’ societal norms ‘damage’ men. 🙄
Ok, ok, I have no issue picking up a check, the whole check. And I’ll tip well. My father raised me to be prepared to pay a check so I’d be independent and he raised me to treat others as often as I could man or woman. I have no issue being generous. And I’m always prepared to pay at least my own way if not to pick up a whole check. And I raised both of my children the same way regardless of gender. So this isn’t really ‘about’ me but damn it just pissed me off as condescending.
Don’t lecture me that splitting a check is ‘gender equality’ and how paying for the other person on a date is ‘damaging’ to men when every single man doing the same job as me is getting paid more than me. Every one of them. ( yes I know this is fact ) And when women are still getting paid less than men for the same work in most cases. No, just not. STFU you look stupid.
Like don’t latch on to the part of equality that benefits you, not fix anything else then tell me I’m equal. Am I wrong?
Next example, not a necessarily a video: the WNBA and their quest for equal pay. Every post, video or not, talking about how these women are paid less than men has some arm chair ass hole responding in the comments that ‘the WNBA players make less because their ticket sales, merchandise sales and TV revenue are lower so it just fair market practice. ( and I guess women’s soccer & track have the same battle against backward ‘logic’ )
Well ok, even if that was completely true, except that society devalues women to begin with, and more so in careers like sports, so why would people pay more to ‘just see women play’ when women as a whole are so devalued from the get go. Like why do they even need the W in WNBA? Why does it need to marked separately as ‘Women’ at all? And no, the women of the WNBA for the most part are not getting the same ‘market share’ as the male athletes do. They have put the numbers out there and the % paid to the women is a lower % than the salaries the men’s leagues are paid in almost every instance. And that doesn’t even touch the discrimination against women athletes who choose to also be mothers by some of the big sport company sponsors. And it also doesn’t cover the inequity in non salary perks & benefits. No, no it’s not fair market.
All right I’m getting off my soap box. I just feel a bit battered on the issue of equality and being told that I am ‘equal’ when I sure as hell am not.
I gotta stop reading comments on social media and watch twin videos from idiots.
