To summarize briefly, I thought he was quite thorough and I liked him.
When he came in, we first went through the forms I filled out and he asked a few additional questions. He then started some motor tests there in the exam room. He watched me walk, pushed on me some to see how I recovered (and he did promise to catch me if I didn’t catch myself lol) He tested reflexes from my hands to my feet. At one point, he told me to rest my hands in my lap and close my eyes. With my eyes still closed I said “I can feel it”. He replied “I can see it”. He did look at a few of my videos I had. He asked more detailed family history and got to the thyroid. I told him that my mom and aunt both had thyroid issues. I told him that my provider has been checking my thyroid 1-2 times a year for probably 10 yrs. I told him I was probably due soon. He said you’re due today.
I am also getting an MRI sometime soon. He said there are many factors that can cause a tremor and he wants to see inside my head to ensure I’m not getting ready to have a stroke. He said there is an imaging test for PD, but he said that even if I did have it…and he’s not ready to say that yet, that the test would most likely be negative anyway.
He said there is no cure for the tremor…can only control with meds. He doesn’t think I need to jump to that at this point. I can still write fine. Sure I shake some, and there are days when eye makeup or plucking eyebrows or chin hairs is difficult. But at this point, it’s not enough trouble to warrant the meds.
I‘ve scheduled follow up…to review MRI and lab work. At this visit I will also have a lengthy memory test. Sure it can tell me if I’m struggling in any specific area now, but perhaps more importantly, gives us a baseline for later comparison. I’m thinking I’m going to be following up with him at least once a year…maybe twice.
I am at peace. I’m glad I went. I’m not worried.
MRI to schedule. Lengthy follow up appointment. PT starts on Friday. I also got my revised estate planning drafts that I will need to go execute. Lots of appointments.
Thyroid bloodwork looks normal. Still haven’t heard from MRI scheduler…calling them today
