MenB vaccine is recommended but not required for son's university. It has been a bit hard to find around here but we do have an appointment to get it tomorrow. I am wondering why it is not more popular. It sounds like a horrible disease to catch. He has the MenACWY vaccines but not the Men B.
What did you decide for your child? Was it recommended?

I got it in like 2001 I think, my college required it if you were going to live on campus. I didn't end up living on campus but didn't hurt to get it either.

Both of my sons got it. I know it was required at Texas Tech but cannot remember if A&M required it. Either way, they both got it.

I can't remember if it was required but both my kids got it. The very first funeral I went to was when I was 13 and was for my friend's 16 year old sister who died from meningitis. That sort of makes an impression.

I have been wondering about this as well. They haven’t mentioned it for DS but was thinking he needed it. Usually Kaiser recommends all vaccines snd reminds you to death so surprised that they haven’t mentioned this one.

Yes. Read too many tragic stories to even make this an option with my kids.

My twins did. Not required at either school, but strongly recommended.

DD 2 lived on campus so it was required, DD 1 and 3 lived with their dad as he was closer to their schools, then in their own homes so don't think they did.

Yes, all four of my kids have had it. It was required by 1 university and suggested by the other two. We've never had difficulty finding it.

Surprised it's hard to find - my daughter's doctor recommended it when she stayed in dorms for 6 weeks for a summer program a few years ago, and it didn't seem any more difficult to obtain. My son's university requires it, but he'd receive it regardless.

Meningitis is one of the things that terrifies me. It was very hard to get the meningitis B vaccine and I found it and all three of my kids got it.

Both of my teenagers received it in high school at their pediatrician’s office. It was recommended while we were there for their annual well checks.

Mine got his first shot just before he left for college, and then failed to get the second then covid hit. I'm not sure if he needs to start over, but he has an appt to find out.
