BTW neither Mitch nor Nancy had the power to call out the national guard. They just don’t have the authority to do so. I’m not sure what this idiot is getting at but if Nancy bears responsibility then so does Mitch.

I don't know how I missed this, but I didn't realize until today that the terrorists hurled racial slurs at the Capitol Police. And the terrorists yelled at a Hispanic officer that he wasn't even American.  Just despicable. The contrast between the terrorists and the honorable officers who risked their lives to defend our Capitol and our democracy is remarkable. And the morons who have tried to suggest the terrorists were peaceful or loving are unbelievable. The list of weapons that the terrorists used from explosives to rebar, police shields, police batons, flares, flag poles, bear spray, pepper spray, bats, pvc pipe, copper pipe, broken table legs, sledgehammers, guardrails, basically anything they could get their hands on is indisputable.

Just a few comments as I'm watching

The lies and claims from Republicans get more dangerous and more ridiculous. There were suggestions that Capitol police officers were Antifa in disguise? They wore Capitol police uniforms with badges etc.

I liked one of the officer's comments about tourism vs terrorists. He said something about how he understood why American tourists are so disliked abroad.

I liked Raskin's question to one of the officers about what they need to investigate.  The response of the officer, Dunn, was an important statement and message.

Asked what he'd like to see the committee examine in the course of its investigation, Dunn used the analogy of a hit man.

"If a hit man is hired and he kills somebody, the hit man goes to jail," he said. "But not only does the hit man go to jail, but the person who hired them does. There was an attack carried out on Jan. 6, and a hit man sent them. I want you to get to the bottom of that."

One of the officers had a very moving, powerful statement about how the terrorists were emboldened by politicians and the danger that people continue to believe the election was stolen.

Just when I think the terrorists can't get more despicable, I hear something even more disturbing.  The terrorists shouted f&ck the blue, you violated your oath, you're on the wrong side of freedom, you're not Americans.  The passion of the terrorists and the depth of their firmly held beliefs is really scary.

Representative Lurin's point about how democracies fail gradually and then suddenly and the importance of this moment is an excellent one.  

I watched today. So many powerful moments and a real testament to how lowly the current GOP are. I will never forgive Trump supporters or the Republican Party for kowtowing to him.

They don’t really, it’s a ploy to try to get her removed as speaker.

They know how smart she is, and they want her silenced.

Out of curiousity I flipped between CNN and Fox news to see the difference in coverage. My parents are huge Trump supporters and only watch Fox so I was curious to see how Fox is spinning it. My 81 y/o mom is convinced it was "Antifa" who stormed the WH. Super frustrating for me and my brother so anytime we are at my parents house we turn off the tv and play the Frank Sinatra station instead.

Fox was focusing on the news conference from the Police Superintendent in Chicago, how the courts are releasing dozens of violent offenders back on the streets and things are out of control out there, and were focusing on the high rate of crimes in similar cities and the rate of inflation.

While that was concerning too (why aren't we discussing it here on the boards, wtf is going on?) not a mention or peep about the Select Committee hearings that I saw.

CNN was 100% on the hearings, over and over the same footage and interviews.

I kept flipping back and forth until I turned off the tv in disgust. I mean I know this isn't news to anyone but still it always shocks me when I actually try to compare the two.

The fact that someone doesn’t know the difference between the White House and US Capitol proves they are ignorant.

Try mother. AND husband. I have gotten him to see some things now and he "doesn't support Trump" however he still thinks good things were done under his term. Don't run me off the board or hate me. I wonder sometimes how I am still married to him. We've got other issues and this is not the priority of issue changing. He does know if the TV lands on Fox and I am around, I walk out of the room. I will call out their lies they are spouting as I hear them. 

I was talking to ODS yesterday while I was in the car traveling. I said I had been listening to the hearings in the office. But since the heat was so bad I had to turn on the fan and I wouldn't be able to hear the conversations. I asked if some of the ones in his office, who only listen to Fox, had listened to the hearings and what were their thoughts and reactions. "Please, mom, Fox was not showing any of that." I didn't quite believe it but thought he was probably right. And now I know. That is the reason 90% of my people on FB have not filled the stream with their BS. They didn't hear it to begin with.
