I don't think so....
I do believe there is a market for the empty boxes, if they are in good condition. If you didn't want to keep the box, you could sell it to off set some of the cost.

We are getting one for our son, too. I don't think it will go on sale. We are buying it from Ths Lego Store to get the VIP points, which will be enough to buy another smaller set that he wants.

I had no idea the empty boxes can be sold. I just threw out a bunch of boxes in perfect condition last week. Aargh.
I will check out the VIP thing on the Lego site, thanks!

I have been watching the lego death star since February 2014 for my son for Christmas. I have not found it less than $399. We ended buying it on Amazon. I got to use my Citi point to offset the cost which was a plus.

I don't think so, however you could get creative withe the savings.
Target is selling it's gift cards for 10% off on Black Friday. Buy enough for the gift, then order it online using the gift cards as payment, and also use your redcard (assuming you have one) for another 5% off, so you could get as much as 15% off total, which is better than nothing.

If you buy it online, create on account on Ebates to get money back. Amazon gives up to 4%, and Lego gives 2.5%. So, if you go Ebates, click Lego, then it redirects you to their site and you order it for $399, you'll get $9.98 back in a check from Ebates. The way Ebates works is this: you know how if you click an ad on a webpage they get paid for it? Well Ebates pays that money directly to you. It's real, it works, and I love it. Full disclosure: I get credit if anyone signs up using my link, but I recommend it regardless.

I had to Google this to see what it was all about. Wow! That is an amazing set and very expensive. I ordered the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar for my BF as a fun activity and I just saw it has doubled in price on Amazon since I bought it. Really should have purchased more and sold them. Does this happen every year? It is my first time buying one.

Yes, the Lego Advent sets often seem to sell out.

I'm in Canada, but I'll look into ebates, etc. I hope we have the Target deal here, I love any kind of discount on gift cards I can get. Our local grocery store always has iTunes gift cards for $10 off of $50 and I stock up for the year. Good to know Target may do this as well.
Thanks for the suggestions, I just have to get creative.
FYI, the death star is $499 in Canada, so I may be doing some cross border shopping!

Oh, my! What happy boys you will have! I wish I had some advice but just had to share my Lego Envy. My son would do flips if he got that. Which he won't!

That is such a cool set, so worth the $400. price. I recently bought a $150. set for m family member way too young yet to put it together. That's a fantastic set. Really.

No.
My 7 yr old wanted it for 2 yrs. We watched the price and it never changed. He finally got it last January.
The only place that carries it in person here is the Lego store. It was $399. But we earned $20 in VIP rewards so we got a $20 set free. I guess that's something.
It's an awesome set. The instruction book is really cool (it's a huge bound book). The set is fun to out together and looks cool when it's done. And it comes with so many mini figures.

Not to hijack the thread, but I wanted to mention that there is a very good documentary on Netflix about the Lego Company. The history of the company and the design process is fascinating. The amount of "bricks" they make each year is amazing. If you have a Lego builder in your family, it is an interesting piece.

I saw it... it was very cool. I'm off to the LEGO store today... very much looking forward to it. Lots to get, lots to not open and play with.

I went to TRU in Amhurst, NY last week to purchase the $29.99, hopefully saving some money. My credit card shows the exchange and the price in CDN$, which was close to $37.95. Kept my Canadian Lego purchased from the Lego Store Canada.
The Lego Store USA will not ship to a shipping depot or PO Box #. I was told by Lego USA that they take pride in their delivery methods and will only ship to a real address (residential).

Wow I had no idea the advent calenders shot up in price like that. Last year we got different ones and this year bought early. I will have to remember not to wait.

If your kid has a lot of Lego already, he can probably make his own Death Star. Well, unless you have a LOT of grey, it might get colourful!!!

That's true, Chatterbox, our exchange rate is so bad right now it's not worth cross border shopping for it, when I factor in gas and time, etc.
I signed up for ebates and I'm very excited about it - there are lots of stores on there that I already shop at, so it's perfect. Last year I used Swagbucks, but this is much better.
