I just signed up for The Scrap Smarter Experience in response to an email from ScrapHappy. On line classes, all available as recordings after the event. Ten instructors, including Shimelle and our own lilacgal!

Yes! I’m so excited to be participating. Having to keep quiet has been so hard! Not to sound all self promotion-y, if you use my name AMYMYERS, you can save $30 when you sign up. You can use the link below and I think it automatically applies the code to your cart. amymyers--scraphappier.thrivecart.com/sse2021-8/August is going to be a busy, fun-filled month!

I'm sure I'm going to cave and sign up for this, even though I have a commitment that Friday night and will miss what I'm sure what will be the keynote session. As I remember, Alice records all the sessions and you have access to them for a period of time, so I should be good.
I've "attended" the last two of these events and thought they were so worth what they cost. I was energized and felt extra creative when the weekend was over!

I attended the first one and thought I was on her mailing list. I’m disappointed I didn’t get a notice, so thanks for sharing!

Can anyone give me a quick overview of this event? Is it worth it, especially if you've been a scrapbooker for a really long time? Is it new technique driven or just inspiration?

I'm a scrap happy member and have done both scrap smarter experiences. I enjoyed both and always get something, I've been scrapping for 18+ years. The first one I think I learned some more technique based ideas whereas the 2nd was more inspiration. A few of the teachers for the upcoming one are repeats from the 1st one, so hoping for some more techniques as well. I was sold on Shimelle for this one being she is the keynote and teaching a class, she's always so full of ideas. I like how Alice puts the events together too, always seamless and done very well. I like the format of just watching/listening and taking notes. If you prefer more "how to do this", following along make something, then I would say it is not that type of event.

needtime2scrap, I signed up for the first event and really enjoyed the whole experience. Just to add to what scrapcat said, I also appreciated that each class had a PDF that provided a supply list, sometimes a sketch, lots of info to plan for that class. So for some of the classes I made some quick page kits and was able to finish pages that weekend. (Not during the class though: just watched & listened).

Can anyone give me an idea of how much time might be devoted to mixed media? I'm not into it at all and wouldn't want to spend the time or money if the majority of the classes focus on that.

Hmm I took the last one and I enjoyed it. I was going to pass but as a SH member I get $60 off so I may just go for it.

Hum, I will be home…and like more technic driven classes. Glad that buying new product is not required.

Can anyone give me an idea of how much time might be devoted to mixed media? I'm not into it at all and wouldn't want to spend the time or money if the majority of the classes focus on that. I think the events are all different depending on the instructors. I think you will find some you love and some that are not for you. The prep sheets they send out give you a really good idea about that, so you can plan to sign on for the classes that most interest you, and then take a break when the others are on.
The one I attended had classes on stamping and diecutting and layering and page design, all of which I enjoyed. I seem to remember one that focused on colour choices, but that would have applied to papers or inks or embellishments as much as to mixed media. Vicki Boutin demo'd an easy way to apply ink with daubers. I enjoyed those have alot of the ideas almost immediately. They had one devoted to Catherine Pooler inks. I didn't buy those inks, but did try out a couple of ideas using my Oxides. There were one or two on digi scrapping, and my eyes glazed over soon into the class--not b/c of the instructor but b/c I have no idea what I am doing electronically. I thought I might download the free app they were suggesting and then run the video slower later, but I never did that.

Have they shared any class descriptions yet? I’d really like to see that before signing up. My experience with a couple of these instructors is that they may still be figuring it out….

I know I’m cutting it close, but I was looking at this today. Do I have to have Facebook for the classes or for any part of it? Or what format do they use?

The classes are delivered on Zoom. They provide the link which connects you. They had a test last night and some of the instructors talked about their classes.
I am so looking forward to all the classes.

I missed the zoom test event last night by 15 minutes. I did watch the video this morning. It made me happy to see how well it was done and look forward to knowing that if I don’t attend the classes in real time the videos, PDFs and Q&As are available for each session. Takes a lot of the pressure off of having to be there for each session, prepping for the classes and zipping through trying to finish something. This morning I was able to start and stop the video, even though it was around 35 minutes total, because of interruptions. Makes the weekend longer than just the three days which is cool by me! And I like that it is technique driven, not just cut and put a layout or card together!

Hi everyone! I missed the party last night but have watched the make and take video and will watch the rest later. Super excited to see Shimelle's keynote today and all the classes after. I think I might actually try to work on a small project while the classes are going but will most likely end up just taking notes and chatting with the other people watching. Hope to see you there! I'm MichelleGB on Zoom too.

Hi - I was there last night, interesting. They had issues with the bandwidth issues so the transmissions were a bit pixelated but the recordings are clear. It is fun to see the ideas and all the comments. Will look for you Michelle and send a hello.

Glad everyone is having fun! I watched the replay of the make-n-take and watched 4 sessions today so far. Had to take a break during this one to pick some stuff in the garden for supper. Hoping to catch the last one live. So many great projects and cool little tips. lilacgal, I was interrupted during your class, but watched it later, and your handout is really helpful. Helps that I have two of the collections you ladies were working with! I could watch you all day tucking pieces under and around the larger elements.

I was interrupted ALL.DAY.LONG! so will watch the replays to catch it all. I wish Shimelle’s keynote was available on replay - it’s still showing the generic placeholder video.

lilacgal , I was interrupted during your class, but watched it later, and your handout is really helpful. Helps that I have two of the collections you ladies were working with! I could watch you all day tucking pieces under and around the larger elements. Oh my goodness! That’s such a lovely comment, grammadee. You just made my night! 💜💜💜 I’m so happy you enjoyed the class and find the handout helpful. Alice put it together. It was a blast to make the layouts. I think there are so many things I do without thinking about them, trying to explain some of what goes through my head and then narrow down that into the time frame was a challenge! My video was over an hour and a half at one point! A bit on the lengthy side for sure! I’ve found my introverted side enjoys talking to a camera when no one is around! Can I just add that being an instructor alongside some of those names still feels surreal? I’ve admired some of them for about a decade or more now! I’m just in awe that I could be a part of this beside them. Now, if only my voice would return so I could get that voiceover work done!
