Looking for some fun to read, humorous books. I often read historical fiction or women’s literature type books. I want something a little lighter to read, but still some depth. I am hoping I can check them out from my local library for my kindle. I have searched there but they don’t seem to have much.
Thank you for any and all suggestions.

No depth, but Stephanie Bond has some fun series.
You've read all of Janet Evanovich's books? She seems to always keep me laughing.
For historical fiction, if you like The Last Kingdom series, there is another author--Matthew Harffy--who has a similar style and writes about the same area of Britain at a similar time.

Do you like Bill Bryson? His travel books are very funny, but also lots of history and other educational elements.

Bill Bryson. A Walk in the Woods has history of the Appalachian Trail (and National Parks) but also is pretty funny, he has another one on the history of the English language to name a few.

The original Shopoholic book was one of the funniest books I’ve read. One of the few books that made me laugh out loud - at one point so hard I cried!

I love Bill Bryson and David Sedaris. Bossy Pants by Tina Fey is really popular.

Jennifer Weiner is a great female writer. She is a champion for women. I love her stuff! Another “Jen” that I like to read is Jen Lancaster, she is funny, sarcastic!

I think "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris is the only book that has ever made me laugh out loud. (Though not everyone loves his particular style).
ETA: and as a kid, I loved to read my mom's copy of "Up the Down Staircase". I wish I had it to read again to remember what I found it so amusing.
I also liked the "I Hate to Cook" and "I Hate to Housekeep" books by Peg Bracken, even though they were technically not intended as read-throughs.

I just read The Guncle by Steve Rowley and keep recommending it. Very funny if you like snarkiness and and dry humor. It’s not just funny, but a good counterbalance to the other storyline.

Confessions of a Prairie Bitch by Allison Arngrim. There is traumatic abuse and depression too, but her humor!!! It is strong in language.

The original Shopoholic book was one of the funniest books I’ve read. One of the few books that made me laugh out loud - at one point so hard I cried! This. Sophie Kinsella is my favorite “light humor” author, although I actually prefer her standalone books to the Shopaholic series… I find the main character in those unlikable. I’ve Got Your Number, Remember Me?, My Not So Perfect Life, and Undomestic Goddess are probably my favorites. Absolutely laugh out loud. 👍🏻

I love the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. I often laugh out loud reading them and there are 28 in the series. Also love Jennifer Lancaster. Bitter is the New Black or Such a Pretty Fat are my favorites. Stick to her earlier “memoirs” to begin with—I wasn’t as impressed with her novel. Another good LOL author is Jenny Lawson. Furiously Happy is a great fun read. It does deal with her mental illness, but in a very funny way.

A completely different read from those above is All Together Now by Alan Doyle. Doyle is a Newfoundlander and the lead singer of Great Big Sea, which I admit may not be a band those outside of Canada recognize but they are very talented and great fun, and he was also in the Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe. I read it earlier this year and it was a great lighthearted read with a few laugh out loud moments.

Summer of 42.
We were on a road trip and I was reading it aloud to DH. We both really laughed at the young boy and his love story.

They're one of my "cheer me up" bands.

A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving made me burst out laughing so much that Dh started hounding me to finish so he could read it.
Actually everything I've read by John Irving cracks me up as does anything by Tom Robbins, iinparticular Another Roadside Attraction.
By the way, I'm a little off in the sense of humour department. 😜

My husband and I enjoyed A Year in Provence on audiobook. There are things from it that we still quote regularly.

I forgot he had another book! Is it another memoir? I miss Great Big Sea. They're one of my "cheer me up" bands. It's a collection of stories that you'd normally share at the pub but couldn't when he wrote it because the pubs were closed. So a few of the stories talk about things that happened when they were touring, he talked about being in the Robin Hood movie and shared some things going on with his ongoing friendship with Russell Crowe - just the kind of thing you would share with friends over a beer or two. And I agree - hard to stay down with Great Big Sea playing in the background!!! I've seen them a couple of times and they never fail to put on a great show.

I just that remembered "Auntie Mame" by Patrick Dennis is an excellent humourous read. Now I feel the need to reread it. And malibou, if Great Big Sea should ever reunite (they broke up a few years before the pandemic), do your best to see a show. They are indeed great live!

Do you like Bill Bryson? His travel books are very funny, but also lots of history and other educational elements. I love his books. His travel books are hysterical. I also love the Wodehouse Jeeves and Wooster books. But they are not everyone’s cup of tea.
