My favorite 7 year old has headphones on his school supply list and his mom was asking me what kind to buy, and I have no idea! I think she thought I would since I work in a school, but we don't use them in Prek so I have no idea what to suggest.
Anyone have any idea of what the teacher would want? We don't go back here until after labor day or I would ask the teachers in my school.
They also want Prang water colors, which surprises me because we are strict Crayola fans here. We have not been able to find those, any idea where to look and any insight on to why Prang?

Walmart sells Prang.
My friends that have littles are getting the headphone that go over their ears. I dont know what brand, but they are getting them off Amazon and Target for around $20.

I’m pretty sure Target and Kohl’s also sell the kid headphones. The kid ones have a volume limit. Our school specifically asked for over the ear wired style and not earbuds. Most of them I’ve seen are between $15-20.

prang watercolors are under $3 at walmart. you may have to order them if your store didn't have them.
maybe they are better quality, like the certain brand of pencils people like.

We’re big jlab fans in this house! My kids both got a pair of jlab buddies headphones 3 years ago for a road trip. My 10 year old still has hers. They’re corded. My 5 year old broke the headphone Jack off his when he was 4 plugging and unplugging them so I handed over my Bluetooth ones. They lasted a while but eventually broke. Jlab replaced them for free because they have an awesome warranty. You can get them at target, Amazon or jlab.com. We have multiple different earbud styles from them as well. The 10 year old uses the air go or air sport ones for school. I use the go or corded metal ones depending on my device being used. kids jlab

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the links, I have no idea how long the kid will be wearing them, but appreciate the links as I am assuming they must be comfortable for kids to wear!
I sill check other Walmart’s for the prangs, but it seems so odd to me, they are not nearly as nice as crayola, imho. Mom is super stressed right now as they are moving, so I am trying to help out as much as I can.
Thanks again

I can pretty much guarantee that not every kid is going to show up with Prang colored pencils (or water colors). Personally, when my kids were in school and had supply lists, I refused drive all over for just one thing. If it couldn't all be bought at Target or Staples then it wasn't getting bought. lol. So in this case I'd buy Crayola and be done with it. I would send a note to the teacher saying that I couldn't find Prang so... Of course remember that we didn't have Amazon back then.

Prang watercolors are different than Prang crayons as far as quality. They really are better than Crayola, but they are definitely harder to find.

RoseArt are awful quality. Prang watercolors and pencils are on par if not slightly better than Crayola in my opinion.

We always just buy cheap headphones for them to use at school. Our school specifically says no ear buds.

I agree about the Prang watercolors, but I sure wouldn't stress about what brand I bought. They're also going to get whatever brand of crayons, tissues, and hand sanitizer I feel like sending. I'm not doing brand requests.

Slight highjack. My kids are long out of school and were told to take headphones off during class and none of the grands are in school yet so I don't have anyone to ask irl - I am curious what the kids do with the headphones.

I will check another Walmart, if not the mom did buy Crayola.

My district uses ThinkWrite headphones. They have a lightweight set that is good for littles. They are durable and not expensive. thinkwrite.com/

Prang watercolors are better quality than Crayola, but you can treat that as a suggestion. At least when I was teaching, we'd suggest good quality brands but we certainly wouldn't tell the kids they couldn't use whatever they brought in.

I'm a middle school art teacher. Prang is far superior to Crayola. I buy Crayola markers and colored pencils because they are good quality for the price point. I absolutely hate anything RoseArt or off brand. But I always buy Prang watercolors. There really is no comparison. Crayola washable ones are particularly awful- the purple is gorgeous but brown looks purple and black turns out green. It is just so bad. The school got me Crayola ones last year because every child needed an individual set (no sharing supplies) and Crayola was much cheaper. When I ordered my supplies for this coming year I made sure that we were back to Prang. The other thing about Prang is that you can remove the colors from the set and replace them when they wear out. This is good for me because we always run out of some colors way before others.

Over the ear headphones are a must. My students (kgtn) who bring ear buds are crying within minutes, unfortunately. They don't stay in and tangle etc. I teach for a huge district and have no say over the school supply lists that go out, but I wish they would specify over the ear is "preferred" for little ones.

In elementary we use them when the kids are on their Chromebooks. So say we were on "Teach Your Monster to Read" or Lexia, you wouldn't want a room full of sound - the kids wouldn't hear a thing.

I'm not doing brand requests. I do agree about tissues and hand sanitizer but do you really want your kid to have the crappy art supplies when the other kids have the good ones? Some art brands are just crap. Even if they share supplies, then some other kid is going to get the awful ones that don't work well. There is usually a reason teachers' specify brands- they aren't randomly making things hard for parents for no reason. Because of my job I'm really passionate about this. I've been burned many times by art supplies that just didn't do the job, or made art harder for kids. Scissors need to be Fiskars or Scotch, dry wipe markers need to be Expo, etc. I've had to throw out other scissors and dry wipe markers because they don't work. Also, it drives me crazy that a lot of organizations have "fill the backpack" fundraisers for kids that are low income, and then they buy the kids RoseArt products. Do people really think poor kids deserve poorer quality products than richer kids? I'm just going to blame that on ignorance, because if somebody is doing that on purpose, that is messed up.

I totally was thinking rose art not Prang and 100% agree about decent supplies. I feel for parents because there are some that school supplies are a financial burden and some of the specific things are hard to find, but trust me I have total brand biases too. We used to have kids bring glue sticks and let me tell you if they weren't Elmer's or scotch brand the kids might as well have been using spit to hold stuff together. Scissors are another thing, there are some craptastic scissors out there that are especially frustrating for kids learning to cut. We don't use paint pots often in Prek k, we use liquid water colors primarily, but when we do we use crayola and they seem fine for our purposes, but I will make a concentrated effort to look for Prang for the 7 year old.

Wow so much that I don't understand in that explanation I'm guessing it is a lot more computer use than I experienced with my kids. Thanks for answering me!!

We use computers and ipads in the classroom. Many of our programs require sound so headphones are a must. They use them several times a week. The problem for me with headphones on the supply list is I know how I plan to store them and anything too big will not fit.

Obviously, you have different priorities than most low income parents or those who are trying to help fill their back packs. They're just trying to get by or help the largest number of children with the money they've got. It's hardly a personal attack on the children to send them with Rose Art products (though I do agree that they suck).
