"Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he regrets signing a law that blocked mask mandates as the state faces a surge in COVID-19 cases and a low vaccination rate. “Well, I signed it at the time because our cases were at a very low point,” Hutchinson, a Republican, told reporters at a news briefing on Tuesday, referring to the law he’d signed in April “I knew that it would be overridden by the Legislature if I didn’t sign it. And … I’d already eliminated our statewide mask mandate.” “Everything has changed now,” he added. “And yes — in hindsight, I wish that had not become law.”" nypost.com/2021/08/04/arkansas-gov-regrets-signing-ban-on-mask-mandates/That's what happens when you govern by pwning the libs vs. governing by science and reality. Too bad, Gov. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube so easily. You can't gaslight a pandemic, my dude. johnpavlovitz.com/2020/02/27/you-cant-gaslight-a-pandemic-donald/

This is a moot point now as the legislature just voted to keep the mask mandate ban in place. Bastards. I hope every school district in the state sues the crap out of them. But they will all be SO proud to tell you that they are “pro-life.”

They have less to lose by voting to pwn the libs (more safety and anonymity for individual reps than for the head honcho). He's going to take it on the chin as a more visible politico when the s#($* hits the fan in the fall. He stoked the fire, now he has to deal with the flames.

Arkansan here and I mentioned this in another thread. You'll get no boo hoos from me, Asa. You f*&%ed up. You have no spine. I agree with purplebee's post and don't have the energy to retype any of it.

A couple of parents are suing over schools being maskless. Let's hope they get some traction.

I will add that I think he regrets it since we are in the news as the #1 hot spot with the most spikes in cases. Or were a week ago. They continue to go up so we are in the top 5 at least.
I have stated in a couple of threads that I knew no one in my personal circle that had been sick since it all began last year. In the last 2 weeks, that number is now 10. TEN!!! Of those 10, 2 have passed away. I went to one memorial yesterday to sign the book and then watched from my car. I go to a visitation tomorrow for a very sweet lady that could have been my YDS's grandmother-in-law. To say I am pissed is putting it quite lightly.

As far away as CA and VT. Not helping the spread.

I had so hoped we would be doing better as a country right now and I am watching our numbers go up and its looking a lot like November all over again. I am hoping against hope it doesn't get as bad as last December. I saw this posted yesterday I think it was and was so hoping that they would reverse the mandate. I don't blame you for being pissed. Hugs

I appreciate that he is willing to say that he regrets the decision now. But I really wish people would be bake to have some foresight to realize the consequences of their actions. Even if Covid was over now, their law would potentially negatively affect people in the next pandemic or other emergency.

We go back to school on the 16th. This is my 22nd year as a lunch lady in a rural District. I will be wearing a mask even though I’ve been vaccinated. If Asa regrets signing the bill now, wait about a month after school resumes with unmasked children.
Oh and another encouraging item (totally sarcastic here) was the FB post by my neighbor, who is a Republican State Representative with a Doctorate in Economics, encouraging the use of the animal wormer Ivormectin for treating COVID 19. I seriously don’t know how much more I can take….

That is heartbreaking. I personally know 12 people who have had COVID in the last 6 weeks, I assume the Delta Variant. ALL of them were unvaccinated. 3 elderly folks really sick and hospitalized, 4 in their 60’s really sick and still recovering, 3 down for a week but OK now, and 2 teens sick for a few days. Thankfully none died, but the three elderly ones had a bad time. I fear that this is just the start.

My MoM, who's wife is the infectious disease person at put hospital, has stated they aren't testing to know if it is delta or not. If they are unvaccinated, it is just assumed that it's Delta.

I don’t understand it either. We use it as a pour on when we work our cattle each year. But evidently there is an IV solution that is supposed to be effective against COVID when mixed with water and ingested. The med is used to treat some things in humans, but not the animal version. Scratching my head….

I’m not saying he’s not spreading misinformation, but Ivermectin was part of some recommended protocols last year IIRC, but current science does not support that. I looked for the one source I know I had saved but they removed it from their server…which should tell you something. Eta: I lied, they just moved it. Here is some info, I make no claim as to the veracity of the claims or the group as a scientific body. Just wanted you to see what was out there. link

I think 94% of cases here are Delta now, so that’s a pretty safe bet for anyone.

Isn't it sad that we have to have a law telling us to wear a mask during a pandemic. I have a feeling that years from now when they're showing documentaries about how it all went down, the audience will be shaking their heads at our stupidity. It will be like watching a horror movie.

I think all of us who teach were really looking forward to getting back in a physical classroom until this outbreak.
My university is not requiring masks. It is requiring vaccinations. Although there are exemptions that include philosophical objections, which ... is worrisome.

The right wing will still share the debunked, as it turns out, trial. There's more details in this article
The problem is that once something is out there on Twitter, Facebook and such like there is no way of stopping it continuing to circulate. even if the original has been proven false. People just carry on sharing without checking a. if it's true or b. that there might be an update - in this case that the whole trial was false.

I'm in Arkansas so no mask requirement and we cannot ask students to vaccinate. I don't think I'm willing to get sick because some a-hole won't get vaccinated, so I may be returning to online lectures.
