Thought this was really well done. Maybe his popularity is waning? He and DeSantis both seem like more polished, smarter and more dangerous versions of former. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-eLOXLyezwwww.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/03/10/what-is-point-josh-hawley/Hawley is the George Costanza of the Senate. He cannot spout lies because he has the capacity to believe anything that comes out of his mouth. He is not just beyond shame — he is outraged that you would bring up his apparent lack of shame and demand that you apologize for such a characterization. Ezra Klein pointed out years ago that Trump’s lack of shame augured poorly for American politics. Hawley might not be the most likely person to be elected president in 2024, but he’s the one that I am most confident would imperil the republic as we know it.

The Lincoln Project does the best ads in my opinion.

I really, really wish that the Dems could figure out how to speak the language of red state folks. This is the kind of thing that will resonate with people in my part of the country.

That’s all that they do and believe. Actually I don’t agree with you. There are a whole lot of people here who really desire to do the right thing. Red state folks, especially those in the south, are persuaded by “story telling” rather than dry facts. That’s what makes this ad compelling- it tells a story of a rich boy who did a bad, bad thing. The images and music are carefully chosen to maximize the emotional impact. I don’t see Dems using imagery and story telling - or the right images - to connect with folks.

In context, the story telling by these red politicians are lies. And when artfully, purposefully, specifically done (they actually have focus groups & marketing the lies) these lies get passed around by “storytelling”. It’s dangerous. Especially when the red politicians are doing it, not out of facts and truth, or even really for the benefit of their communities, but they do it for the grift, power, and politics.

And I disagree that politicians should have to change their way of speaking depending on where they are campaigning. There’s both red and blue voters in every state. I live in VA with a very red south and a very blue north. We all get to comprehend the same message. The onus is on the voters to research and decide what’s an out & out lie, what may be stretching the truth or an absolute truth.

Honestly, this video strikes me as similar in tone to many of the Republican attack ads that are filled with lies but are compelling. I usually hate those ads because they are misleading, but also because I know that people believe them because they are compelling. What is even more frustrating is that people don’t take the time to learn whether or not what they are told in the ad is true.
