Hello Scrappy friends~ Rather than tag everyone thought I would post a general update here as this is where I play most frequently.
In the middle of July we decided to leave a few days early for our road trip. So I spent 3 1/2 days cleaning, packing, cooking for our trip.
- We went to Puyallup WA and toured the Space Needle and Pike's Market in Seattle with DSD & BF
- Drove 667 miles across MT . . . on HWY 2, took forever!
- Visited SIL in St. Paul, MN
- Stayed a week in Oshkosh WI camping with 40K of our best airplane friends, had a blast!!!! We've done this for 9 of the last 12 years. Usually for DH's work, but he didn't have any obligations this trip. We love airplanes, DS had a blast and connected with a friend from 3 years ago, so they free ranged!
- Visited friends in Loveland, CO. Their daughters are like cousins to DS. On their property above Ft. Collins the kids zip lined, played rounds of disc golf, gravity assisted downhill ride on bike several times, we all paddled on the reservoir and and a grand time for 3 days.
- Visited a friend Ogden, UT and went to an Air Force Museum and Train Museum. Then headed home!
While we were busy driving 5,000+ miles through 13 states for three weeks lots was going on at home . . . not all good - Mower broke that is used to move the irrigation line, house sitter (HS) used her car . . . still broken
- Second night steer broke fence and were running out on the road, helpful neighbors chased them back into the field and they were put in the back field. Had a friend of HS fix the 140 feet of fence . . . $$$$
- Athena dog ingested part of DS's pillow on the Tues or Wednesday before we got home. Two nights at the vet hospital, xrays, medication, surgery, etc. $$$$$ But she is on the mend and on a modified diet for another week or so. HS was very concerned for a good reason. Glad she took good care of her.
- When we got home we discovered water on the carpet of our master closet . . . we are now starting the remediation process of the issue. We are still not sure of the source of the leak, but have the closet emptied, master bath is next, then our master bedroom. Don't know how much demo yet either! DH emptied the hot water heater located in the closet, we shut off the power to the hot water heater and the tile in floor heating. The Disaster restoration company and the plumber could not find the source of the leak. Waiting on insurance to OKay demo to find the source.
- Washing machine is broken, will have to use a laundromat to get caught up!
- Irrigation needed repair, DH did that on Sunday
- Kitchen faucet needed repair DH did that on Sat right after we got home
- Toilet handle was broken in master bath . . . not fixed yet
- Lights in refrigerator need to be replaced.
- A few other lights in the home need to be replaced
Whew, I think that is everything. Don't know if I will get to craft for the rest of the month, most likely will be sorting master bedroom etc. I will try and look at this positively. I needed to Marie Kondo my closet anyway, and now that it is out and in several location in the home I will be working on that. ACK!
Had a massage on Saturday right after I got home (2 hours!), Chiro on Monday, Acupuncture on Friday. My back really acted up on the trip, so trying to get it to be less painful.
Maybe I will get to play along with Sketchember

Well this is definitely a case of life having its ups and downs, just crammed into a tiny period of time. It sounds like you had a fantastic trip, and hopefully all the stuff that needs to be done around the home is under control.

Welcome back! That is certainly a see-saw of a story - it sounds like a glorious trip but that your home was jealous you were away and acted up Or maybe the real-life drama will make the vacation memories that much sweeter? Glad you are back!

Thanks everyone . . . still trying to determine the actual cause of the leak, water heater, but what in the water heater before Insurance will cover anything. Looks like we will need to replace 120 sq ft of tile plus carpet, maybe subflooring, dray wall? At least now that we have the carpet and padding out of the water heater vicinity in the master closet it smells less. Another long road ahead of us from water damage. We had another hot water heater do something similar in April 2020, so it's not a new rodeo!

We have a water heater in an upstairs closet and we replaced it this spring after moving in as it was original to the house (1980). The plumber put an alarm on the drip pan but also ran an overflow pipe under the floor and out the exterior wall - it'll drain into a gutter/downspout - so hopefully any leaks won't cause damage. Not inexpensive but worth it to hopefully avoid carpet/floor/ceiling damage. The other water heater is in a utility room off the garage on concrete so less worry there (and it had already been recently replaced)

- Mower broke that is used to move the irrigation line, house sitter (HS) used her car . . . still broken
- Athena dog ingested part of DS's pillow on the Tues or Wednesday before we got home. Athena is almost back to normal!
- Second plumber visit found the source to the leak in the master bathroom water heater located in the closet. DH & DS removed carpet and padding and all clues lead to water heater. It's been super hot here so we are opening windows and letting the room heat up, shut off from the rest of the house. It seems to be drying nicely. IF THERE WAS AN ORGANIZE your closet challenge this month I would be raking in the points! I'm at about 7 hours, plus have four 13-gallon bags ready for donations and probably at least 50 items that I will see if the local consignment shops will take. If not, more to be donated!
- Washing machine is broken, used laundromat and in 2 hours did about 6-8 loads. Repairman can't come until the 25th, so another visit to the laundromat is in my future.
- Toilet handle was broken in master bath . . . now fixed
- Lights in refrigerator are replaced.
- A few other lights in the home are replaced.
- Missing outlet cover replaced.
My two hanging baskets did not fare well . . . they need to be watered twice daily in 90+ heat. They were all dried up when I got home. I tore out the plants from the one on my front porch and bought some "distressed plants" at Lowe's. Still looks a little sad, but better.
At least my garden is doing mostly OK.
