We are in the very early stages of adopting a pet for our family. I emailed a local organization about adopting and they put me in touch with a woman that shows dogs. She has a 3 yr old dog and an almost 1 year old dog up for adoption. The 3 year old was a show dog and not sure what the story is on the older puppy although I do know the puppy has been raised inside the house.
She has another family coming today to look at her dogs and, assuming they chose one, we would get the opportunity to have the other one.
What questions should I ask?

Educate yourself a bit about the breed of dog that you are considering adopting. For example, some larger breeds have greater potential to have issues with hip dysplasia that can be very painful for the dog and very costly to treat. Know about potential issues with the breed you are adopting.
Find out at what age the current owner obtained the dogs and where they were adopted/purchased from. If the current owner was the breeder of these dogs, ask to see the parents if they are on site. Watch the interactions of the current owner and the dogs.
And, very importantly, why is the current owner considering surrendering her dogs.

In addition to the above questions I'd be curious about the show dog statement on the 1 yr old especially. AKC doesn't show puppies until they are 6 months old. So was this a potential show dog and they found something that caused him to not be showable. Or was there an injury, accident or incident that caused a change in plans. You want to be prepared for potential vet bills if it's something serious.
Definitely research the breed for your lifestyle and ask why she is rehoming.
