Ok so the anti-vaxxers don't trust the 'new' vaccines, but will accept lab-made monoclonal antibodies... DeSantis is sending them out to where it is needed... (CNN)As the Delta variant drives a surge of Covid-19 cases in Florida, a rapid-response unit will be deployed to administer monoclonal antibody treatments to residents infected with the virus, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday. "This is the most effective treatment that we've yet encountered for people who are infected with Covid-19," DeSantis said. "This, applied early and properly, has the ability to reduce your likelihood of being hospitalized." Monoclonal antibodies are intensely focused, lab-made versions of convalescent plasma. The antibodies come from people who have recovered from coronavirus. Researchers then take the blood, select the most potent antibodies, and make them into a drug. Speaking from Jacksonville, DeSantis said beginning at noon Thursday, the rapid response unit will begin delivering monoclonal antibodies in the city. The process will begin with referrals from the health systems, but the state is looking to move to allowing individuals to make appointments, he said. The intention is to expand the model to other parts of the state, the governor said. The state will also be deploying strike teams to long-term care facilities as well, DeSantis said, and the state "is going to bring in a lot more Regeneron into Florida." (Regeneron is a company that makes a monoclonal antibody treatment.) www.cnn.com/2021/08/12/health/florida-covid-rapid-response-teams/index.html

Let me guess, people living in the red parts of the state and with higher income levels will also have first/easier access to monoclonal antibody treatment.

Or they could just drink cattle dewormer like a bunch of people in my community. 🤦♀️ The downright stupidity of people who think that taking heavy-duty animal deworming medicine after you have COVID is somehow safer than getting a vaccine is mind-boggling.

Or they could just drink cattle dewormer like a bunch of people in my community. 🤦♀️ I really thought it was fake but have seen it mentioned in groups to get it at Tractor Supply 🤦♀️. Let’s ignore modern medicine and ingest stuff meant for livestock. What could possibly go wrong.

DeSantis' handling of the pandemic has been a dumpster fire. No masks. No shut-downs. Fired the person who created the state tracking dashboard because the figures looked bad. Fought vaccine requirements for cruise ships. Vaccines distributed to country clubs where donors gave to his campaign. Sold anti-Fauci merchandise to fund re-election. I'm surprised he's not recommending leeches as a cure. Monoclonal antibodies are intensely focused, lab-made versions of convalescent plasma. The antibodies come from people who have recovered from coronavirus. Researchers then take the blood, select the most potent antibodies, and make them into a drug. So they fear the actual vaccine, which contains no live virus but they claim it does, and choose something made from the blood of people who have had CoVid? I hope it works, but the logic eludes me.

Yep. Well, at least he has finally realized that if he wants to become President, he needs to do something. What a pity that he has refused to take steps that might have prevented this mess.

Twitter peeps are saying Regeneron is $1500-1600 / dose, too. So, that makes sense.

Florida's plight was a top item on Thursday's agenda of the White House COVID Response Team.
"In the past week, Florida has had more COVID cases than all 30 states with the lowest case rates combined," said the team coordinator, Jeff Zients. "And Florida and Texas alone have accounted for 40% of new hospitalization across the country."
And this:

Does he have stock in Regeneron? ...or does the company contribute to his re-election campaign. That seems to be all he thinks about. Lots of perks for donors.

Although school is not open, four teachers in Broward County have died from Covid. Probably 3 unvaccinated. They may have been in the classrooms getting ready. Think it was said, two from one school.

I’m not sure where you read that all were anti-vaxxers, but one of the teachers had not been cleared to receive the vaccine by her doctor yet according to local news. She was hopeful she would be cleared to get the vaccine in a couple weeks. Also, local news is also reporting they had not been in the classroom this school year.

It’s American health care in just one post.
Don’t spend pennies on prevention; spend a fortune on a less-available less-effective cure.

I think it is surprising that throughout the pandemic, very few have talked about overall health and ways to prevent Serious cases of Covid, such as reducing risk factors, eating better, exercising, etc. I know that it isn’t a guarantee but it seems like a good time to try to help people improve their health. The only people I have really heard talk about this are the ones who are more to the extreme with health and they also seem to think masks are harmful and that If they take care of themselves, they are immune to any health problem. I don’t think that way, but it would be good to help people focus on overall health, in addition to Covid specific precautions like masks.

There is no money to be made in prevention. And don't get me started on drug manufacturers where we treat a million symptoms but never work on the root cause.

I guess I see it as not having been talked about, but rather ignored by the people. We all know that extra health conditions can make covid worse in a person, but Americans suck as a while with changing what they don't want...give them a pill or a shot and they are in. Ask them to change their lifestyle and you get resistance. Part of the reason I started trying to lose weight is Covid. I take my vitamins daily now and exercise more.

Especially emphasizing the importance of losing weight to get a BMI under 30 and making sure to keep your blood sugars under control. Of course prevention is super important, but I feel like they’re doing a disservice by not teaching people what needs to be done to lower your risk for severe disease. And I’ve noticed the same thing with athletes and health nuts. (Not disparaging them, just couldn’t think of a better word that everyone would get the group I’m talking about). Yes, you have less chance of severe disease. That’s wonderful, truly. Now how about thinking about other people and your obligation as a member of your community to help keep them safe?
