I have a hard time resisting a gorgeous specialty paper, especially foiled or printed vellum and transparencies. In the past, this led me to buy multiples of these 12x12 papers, so now I'm trying to pare down my stash by selling the extras. My only issue is that 12x12 paper is expensive to ship, especially for small lots of paper, so I thought about maybe cutting it down and making variety packs. From my days of scrapbooking, I feel like not many people used a full 12x12 sheet of specialty paper as a background, it was used more in accents on a layout, but maybe that's changed. If you were looking at buying variety packs of specialty paper, would you rather buy full 12x12 sheets, or would some other size work for you? 6x12, 6x8, 6x6? Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I'm a cardmaker so I use specialty paper (if I can figure out how to use it!) in smaller pieces, 4x5.25" or smaller. I think 6x6 would be the most versatile for the most people, easy to cut down, simple and no waste. 6x8 would work too but then you're left with 4x6 pieces as well... I guess that would work out but maybe scrappers would be annoyed that 4x6 isn't big enough for a photo mat? (if they would use those papers that way - idk?)

Slight tangent to this, but for years I've been frustrated that when I cut down 12x12 paper to use on cards, if I cut 4.25" backgrounds, I'm left with an odd sized strip. (I know I could cut 4", but sometimes I want the option of the full background.) I realized the other day that the strip that's left is 3.5", which is perfect for slimline cards! I haven't made any yet but that might start to change.

I would personally vote for 6x12 because I scrap 12x12 and often use a strip of a specialty paper. I agree that using the whole 12x12 has never happened. More often, I buy them to fussy cut elements out, or punch pieces out for accents. So a 6x12 piece would fit both my criteria.

I was hoping this was going to be a thread about actually how to use the specialty paper I've hoarded.
I don't think I've ever used a 12x12 unless it was designed as a full 12x12 (eg a full page quote), otherwise I think the largest I've done would be 8x12. That said, if I only had a 6x12 piece I'd make that work, and find that size more useful than 6x6.

I would prefer 6x12 since I scrap 12x12 and often use a strip of specialty paper along one side. I've rarely ever used an entire 12x12 sheet of specialty paper in one piece. The few times I did were for Disney pages where glitter mattered.
6x8 would also work since it's a good size for cards too. For specialty paper, to me 6x6 is too small.

Thank you everyone for your feedback so far! Since 6x12 seems to be the best size for scrappers, I think I might try putting a few variety packs together and see how they sell before I cut everything up.
