Can you believe it is September already?! Now you may think that it is actually fall . . . but not until September 22nd to be exact. So, hold off on your pumpkin spice lattes for a few more weeks. If you have kids they should be in school, or if you are on the West Coast like me, my kiddo starts next Thursday! By the way I did get my new Taos sandals in July . . . but kept the Doc Martens. I reduced my shoe stash by 20 pairs! Then rushed off early for a much deserved 3 weeks road trip vacation.
Welcome to the back to the 2021 Organized 2PeasRefugees scrap challenge. It does not matter where you are in your journey of organizing you are welcome to join us and do a little or do a lot! Find a system that works for you and your space. How do you scrap and shop your supplies? Is your space tiny or a whole room? Do you live with special considerations such as flooding or dust? There is not one way that is better than another, just what is best for your style and needs!
This challenge is to encourage you to work towards a more organized crafting life, so that you can find what you purchased when you want to use it! My best rule of thumb is that it should not take more than three moves to get to what you want to use on your project.
If you are on a team for the team challenges you can claim 10 points for each hour spent. The time does not need to be consecutive. Bonus of 1 point for each before and after photo. The following tasks will count towards the crafting organization:
• Cleaning up after your latest crafting session (ie desk before, desk after)
• Scrubbing or vacuuming the floor in your space. Dusting your space (I live in the desert next to a dirt road and own four German Shepherds so this is a regular task)
• Organizing a supply or completely re-doing your entire space.
• Sorting, editing, backing up, or ordering photos.
• Setting up page kits for photos or organizing the ones that you get as a monthly subscription with photos.
• Essentially anything that is related to crafting that needs to be done to “spark joy”! (I’m not necessary a huge Marie Kondo fan . . . but she does have some good ideas!)
Bonus: Even though I want to devote as much time to Sketchtember I really need to put away the new(ish) stamps and (w/ matching dies) I’ve collected in the last year (truth be told maybe longer?). Many have been used, but never put away in their proper homes. You will earn 20 points for each hour spent organizing your stamps, and those with matching dies. I have three storage solutions for my stash. (Next month it will be dies w/out matching stamps & embossing folders.)
1. Stamps that I just can’t bear to unmount are stored in 6 drawers by categories.
2. Unmounted stamps are stored in hanging file folders in pocket sheets are adhered directly to a page protector, and are separated by categories. I've had some of these since my early days 1997!
3. Stamps that match dies are stored in pocket sheets (many I made myself), placed in plastic pronged folders, then in in hanging files. The spines are labelled and they are stored by company.

NSBR Bonus: Also 20 points per hour. This one I’ve been working on the last few weeks as my master closet flooded in early August, right as I got home from vacation. A water heater gasket leaked, and it is located in our master closet. We emptied the closet to various rooms in our home and made the pact that we would go through everything before it goes back after the remodel, now happening thankfully! Go through all your summer clothing and donate or consign away! I am a hoarder of clothing, and had at least 4 sizes in my closet and clothing more than 30 years old! Organizers tell you at our age (I'm just entering my 6th decade!) we shouldn't keep anything that is more than a size away from our current size. For example I'm in a 10 now, and will keep some 8's, and some 12's, but everything else is going. All the small tops, gone. The extra-large went away when I lost weight a few years back. I can’t show before photos, but hopefully will share after photos. One point per item or 30 points per 13 gallon garbage bag.
What I will say about the water heater disaster is that I am glad I went through toiletries and linen closets earlier this year! I knew I didn’t need address those areas also located in the bathroom, close to the scene of the disaster!
