Tell me about your printers! I’m looking for something that prints at least 4x6 and 5x7. Things I’m worried about are picture quality and ink cost. Help me out please!

I have an Epson PM 400. It print 4x6 and 5x7 on any paper. The quality is better than any of the labs I've sent my photos to. I have had Selphy's in the past and the Epson's quality is much better. I love using the app because you can put multiple photos on a 4x6 and print a "collage". It's perfect for pocket page scrapping. I buy paper cheap and the ink is $32 on Amazon. The ink is supposed to last for 100 prints I believe, but I think it lasts longer. I love the printer so much that 6 of the gals I scrap with in person have purchased it. I feel like I print less wasted photos because I only print what I need in the size I need. That's my glowing recommendation

Does it need its own paper brand or can you use any brand?

I use all different brands. I had a ton of 4x6 printer paper that was Canon and HP. I used that up then I bought some Epson when they have their half off sales. You can print matte or glossy depending on the paper you buy. You can print on cardstock if you want also - I do that if I'm at a crop and need to journal.

So the printer looks great but I’m having a hard time finding paper that isn’t glossy. I’m in Canada and on Amazon Canada I can find 4x6 in semi gloss but not 5x7. I really don’t like working with super glossy photos.

I really don’t like working with super glossy photos. The matte paper is hard to find and expensive! I used to do everything in matte previous to the printer. I've been super happy with the printer itself, the ease of use and now am happy with the glossy paper. It hasn't bothered me like I thought it would. I really like this: Paper which I assume would be in Canada too.

The ink and paper is so expensive.

For my full 12x12 layouts and special albums (December Daily, trips, etc), I use my Epson PM 400. As noted by others here, the quality is outstanding.
For my annual Project Life album, which, for me, is more about preserving memories and getting photos off my phone even if they are not the best, I just print on my home office HP printer that I've had for years. I print on HP letter size photo paper, and use Photoshop Elements to resize and print my photos. I use HP Instant Ink and pay $5 for them to send me ink cartridges when I get low (my max number of printed pages is 100, I believe, and they roll over month-to-month and I don't get anywhere near close to the limit). Again, this is for my family album where I don't necessarily need the photos to be of super high quality, although I think they still come out great....just not as good as the Epson PM 400.

This is the paler she uses and that I get, and I love it! www.staples.com/Staples-Photo-Supreme-Paper-4-x-6-Satin-100-Pack/product_564119

Thanks everyone! I ordered the Epson printer from Amazon. The paper mentioned from staples looks good but is currently out of stock. Ordered some 4x6 Epson semi gloss in the meantime. What paper do you use for 5x7? Hard to find here. But for the odd time I will want it, I could cut down 81/2x11 which I can find.

Another vote for the PM-400.
Check buying from Epson directly. They often have great sales.

You will love the Epson PM-400 printer! Yes it is more expensive to print at home it's also super handy. Although I don't print all my photos at home.

I am another Epson PM 400 fan. I got it right before Costco shut down their photo centers. This printer is fantastic and I regret not getting it sooner. The quality is amazing. I use only Epson paper and ink. The ink lasts forever.

Thanks! I checked out the Epson Canada website and the cartridges are definitely cheaper there.
It’s reassuring that you are all saying the same printer. Mine gets delivered tomorrow. Can’t wait to play with it!

It currently says it’ll be delivered by 10 pm tonight. I’m actually considering doing December Daily this year. I’ve never done it but now it seems easier if I can just print a pic every day.

I love my Epson PM 400 also. The ink lasts a long time. Don’t change it out the first time it says it’s almost out. Wait until it won’t print again without changing it. I have not noticed a difference in quality between my first photo printed and the last photo from an ink cartridge.

I have an Epson as well. I usually purchase my inks/paper directly from Epson because I haven't found it cheaper in Canada anywhere else. That being said I rarely use it for PL. For my PL prints I send them the Blacks.ca and they are beautiful and cheaper. I usually work in my PL album once every 2 months, so I order prints then do the 8-9 weeks that I need to catch up on. I use my Epson for printing out photos for regular scrapbook pages and I will use it for a dedicated project like WITL and DD because I can print out as I need instead of waiting.
