I just saw Silhouette came out with the Cricut Joy competitor called Portrait 3 that can be used with the app Silhouette Go.
I have the original Silhouette and when the Cricut Joy came out, I fell in love with the small size and easy phone app but I couldn’t justify switching because I have all my Silhouette designs that I collected over the years.
Does anyone have it? Do you like it? Off to YouTube to check it out!

So I have both. The Portrait 3's actually been out for a little while. I got mine back in the spring, and I got the Joy last year. They both have their uses - but if I could only have one, I would recommend the Portrait 3 over the Joy, especially if you are already familiar with Silhouette Studio. Yes, its bigger than the Joy, but it is pretty light and very portable. It's also nice to be able to cut up to 8 inches wide vs the 4 on the Joy. You can also do print and cut projects on the Portrait, but the Joy doesn't have that capability. I have not used the Silhouette app, so I cannot say how easy it is to use. The Cricut Joy is very very cute and I like making cards with it on the card mat and smaller decals and embellishments. But the Portrait is definitely better value for money with the extra cutting space and features.

I have an original Silhouette Cameo and the Cricut Joy. I still use both but I travel with my Cricut Joy. I love using the app on my iphone/ipad and not lugging around my laptop. I can download any free font onto my iphone/ipad and then use that in the Cricut app to cut my titles. I have heard that the Silhouette Go app does not allow you to do this. That is why I chose the Joy vs. downsizing to the Portrait. Since purchasing my Joy, when I purchase a new Silhouette cut file I also include the SVG image. The SVG images can be uploaded to your Cricut account and gives you access to the cut file in both Silhouette and Cricut. Like you I do have a large library of Silhouette files but my Cameo can still cut those if it is something I need.
Silhouette really needs to figure out how to get their Go app to compete with the Cricut app. That was the only reason I chose the Joy. Otherwise I would have purchased a Portrait. Sadly Cricut has a history of phasing out older machines. I foresee a day when my Joy still works great but will no longer be compatible with the app.

I want to make signs to sell so having the fonts restricted on the Silhouette app is a huge deal. Definitely something to consider!

I should have noted in my original post that while I really like the Portrait's size (and still recommend overall)- being able to design on my phone is a HUGE plus for the Joy (and other Cricut machines). I'm home most of the time, so the lack of an equivalent app from Silhouette doesn't bother me too much - but for someone who travels a lot and wants that ability, it's a factor to consider for sure.
