This is one of my favorite shows.
It boggles my mind that the British enter this show knowing there is no cash prize, only a beautiful cake plate and the glory of becoming the winner. American bake off shows always seem to have a cash prize, like $500 to $10, 000!!

If you do well on the show there are many opportunities such as the chance to write recipe books, be a tv cook/presenter, some start their own businesses so it's not totally plate and glory. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Nadiya Hussain writes cookery books, presents tv programmes and guests on others. John Whaite won a few years ago and has written books, been on tv a lot and this year is part of the first all male couple on Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing with the Stars).

I saw that the other day...but I OMG I didn't even recognize him, I was about to say he's been dipping into the cosmetic surgery waters, but scratch that, there's no 'dipping' involved. he's dived all the way in head first. When I saw the Strictly photos I had no idea who he was and I had to google to see some old pictures

So who do we like? George is being hailed as the most relatable - because he had some not so great results? Maggie and Pru talking being likened to listening to a Dickens novel...Guiseppe not so sloppy...those gravity defying constructions!

I like all the contestants! The Maggie/Pru thing is hilarious and what a good sport Maggie is. It’s great to have so many men too. This must be the most there’s been in one series.
Surprised at the lack of knowledge over malt loaf. Who doesn’t love a bit of Soreen?!

Watching and laughing at the opening video. Mullets unite. Thanks for saying this. I was a bit late starting to watch yesterday so I fast forwarded until I saw the tent, so missed the start altogether. I’ve just watched it now, Prue was hilarious

And the advert for next week shows Jammy Dodgers being attempted, should be fun.

So what did we enjoy in Bread week? I think Guiseppe struck lucky in a way with 2 Italian style items but obviously there was no guarantee he'd be good at making them! And he got all emotional with the handshake he got Maggie isn't as good a cook as I thought she'd be, Freya is doing well but Jurgen didn't have such a great week this week.

I agree gar . Some of the challenges can be quite off the wall. There’s nothing wrong with going back to basics and showing how do to something simple very well IMO. Yes, I agree. I love that we are able to watch this now in the U.S. instead of later. I told hubby the other night that some of these challenges are just crazy. They need to go back to basics a bit. Not everyone can build a cake that defies gravity, etc. Instead why not just make it taste incredible and look amazing? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

They are a very pleasant bunch this year.

They are a very pleasant bunch this year. With Maggie it’s almost an assumption that she will be a great cook with loads of experience and hands on knowledge but…it ain’t necessarily so, as they say. Giuseppe is a sweetheart as you say but his hair…I find myself very distracted by it and can’t focus on the food when he’s been spoken to 😁 I know it’s entirely irrelevant to his skills as a cook but 🤷🏻♀️ I can’t help it!

I love this show. The signature bakes and technical challenges are my favorite part. The showstopper challenge needs to be reined in a bit IMHO. For something that is planned and practiced, there have been some amazing failures over the years. Jurgen, Giuseppe, Crystelle and Freya are my favorites.

So what do you think of last night's 'eviction'? I don't want to write the name in case someone hasn't watched it yet.
I'm not sure it was deserved going on past form to be honest. And Chigs had a complete disaster yesterday...I'm not sure the right person went home, are you?

Tricky question gar! I was surprised tbh. I did think, and hope, they would let all 4 go through. I don't remember Chigg's disaster; what did I miss! I know the showstoppers were all about the little puddings but I wish they had the chance to make them perfectly rather than design some silly background which, imho, looked very amateurish all round with the exception of Christelle's.

It was the technical round when they made the sable whatever it was - the pastry base without sides. Chigg’s came 4th if I remember correctly. One element wouldn’t set and it was just not good.
All 4 going through would have been the fair answer I think.
