Depends on the age and social status of the hosting couple. New jeans/dress type pants and a blingy holiday type of top. If they bothered to mail an invitation I'd go with dress pants instead of jeans. If it is a facebook/twitter invite I'd go with jeans.

black long top, black leggings, (not tights, and my top comes mid thigh!) tucked into my grey boots with cute boot socks and a scarf. Probably my red/silver/black/white one.

Nice jeans, boots, dressier top. Maybe a nice coat and scarf if it is going to be cold (I keep picturing a bonfire type scenario).

Skinny jeans, heels, dressy top. I'm thinking of my mid-thigh length shimmery knit jumper that I'm planning on wearing to a 'do' near Christmas

it depends on who is hosting. If it's our neighbors (we're all very casual) it would be jeans/sweater or leggings/tunic. If it was something fancy that I had to dress up for, errrrrrr, I probably would come up with an excuse not to go

Jeans, boots or heels, and a dressy top.

I would call up several of you to sub for me; I don't have any cool clothes like you're describing.

OMG. For one we would never get an invite like that! ha. It would totally depend on the people who sent it. Our group of friends,it would be jeans, and nice top. Nothing fancy.

As mentioned, depends on the host. I'd call and ask if it were dressy or casual.

I'd probably assume the party was casual and I'd wear either wear black leggings, black boots and a longish dressy top or I'd wear a skirt and boots w/ a dressy top.
If I had any doubts about how dressy the party was, I'd call and ask the hostess.

See, in our neck of the woods. skirt and boots with dressy top, is WAY overdressed.

It sounds like a bonfire? If so casual, warm, and cute - jeans, top, boots etc...

It depends on the hosting party... Some friends would be dressier than others. If I didn't know, I'd go safe with black jeans and a casual/nice shirt sweater.

I'd have to decline the invite if skinny jeans, boots or leggings were what I had to wear, lol. I could probably borrow a cute scarf. I really need to go shopping . . . ETA: Forgot to answer the question! Despite my wardrobe deficiencies, I would probably wear dark jeans, flats & one of my sparkly tops. God, I feel old . . .

I was really just trying to get a sense of how casual people thought this party was based on the wording of the invitation. I've decided to buck the traditional Connecticut suburban holiday party attire (black pants/skirt, green/red/sparkly top) and channel my inner Stevie Nicks. Black leggings and tunic, a flowy lacy or burnout velvet kimono jacket, statement pendant necklace and black biker boots.

See, in our neck of the woods. skirt and boots with dressy top, is WAY overdressed. Here too - also we have some snow on the ground so I'd probably be expected to take my shoes off so I'd have to wear something that also looks "okay" while walking around in socks.

its 81 degrees here so I would wear shorts, sandals and a nice shirt. It will be even hotter around the fire.

jeans, tshirt and a sweater. There is nothing formal about this kind of invitation and I don't see the point in dressing up or wearing anything fancy (like blingy stuff) to a party like this. Oh, I'd also wear funky, outrageous socks because there are no shoes allowed in houses and it's fun wearing socks that people comment on.

To me it sounds like an outdoor party, which here, means wear long underwear & jeans and nothing else matters because it will all be covered by your scarf & jacket. Now if they mean an indoor fireplace type setting, my answer might be different. ETA: I missed the response from the OP. Since it's outdoors I would base my outfit on what I know of the hosts and the type of parties they host.

Firelight party makes me think it's in the fireplace rather than a bonfire. I imagine eating cookies and drinking mulled cigar! I'd wear nice jeans and a nice top.
