Just wondering if anyone has had any luck using Heidi Swapps Minc products with a laminator and not her machine? I'm not sure I want to invest the money in a machine when I have a laminator and I'm not sure how much I would use the foils.

Yes, I've used them. They work fine. I've used some of the foils and the foilable die cuts and tags with my Scotch laminator. No issues.

Now I did pick up her smaller Minc at TM a couple years ago, at a very nice low price. My laminator was being used in the office and I didn't know how long it would last. Happy to say both are still working!

I have had two very mixed results. I bought a super cheapie laminator just to have a play with and used the minc foil and had pretty rubbish results so of course I went out and bought myself the minc. My husband on the other hand took the foil to his work and had amazing results with the laminator that they have there. He actually foils so much more than me as they use it to foil menus and product shelf labels and they always have different stock coming in and out of rotation.

I'm a member of the FSC on Facebook (foiling snobs club) and they have some really good videos and tests. What they have found is that a laminator works, but you need to let it heat up for at least a half hour, and the Minc usually gives more consistent results because you're able to adjust the temp and it gives better pressure. I know that the leader, Nancy, got good results with a cheap Amazon Basics laminator. I prefer my Minc, but I was able to get the big one on an insane sale. I can use it to laminate 10 mil pouches, up to 12" wide, and a laminator that can do that is pretty pricey too!

You can find her there as Nancy Stamps.

I have a Scotch laminator, which is on the cheaper side (about $30 on sale). I let it heat up for at least 15 minutes before using it. I also run almost everything through twice on the 5 mil setting. I use a folded piece of parchment paper as a carrier and add a sheet of cardstock for a little extra pressure. The only time I've had spotty results is when I've made my own embellishments using a laser printer with toner. I'm glad I didn't invest in a laser printer, because I wasn't happy with those results.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm going to try some foiling with mine. I think I need the transfer folders, foil and either the ink or something to foil right?

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm going to try some foiling with mine. I think I need the transfer folders, foil and either the ink or something to foil right? You don't need special transfer folders; you can use a folded piece of parchment paper or copy paper. You will need foil - Deco Foil or Minc Foil (toner reactive). Glimmer foil or foil quill foil won't work properly; you'll get foil over your entire piece, not just what you printed. If you want to print your own designs, print on super smooth cardstock with a laser printer. Inkjet print will not work! You can also get Duo Foil transfer gel from Thermoweb and apply it thru a stencil. If you use the duo, you don't even need to run it thru a laminator. The foil will transfer to the gel just with the pressure from your Big Shot or other diecutting machine. If you go to YouTube and search for Nancy Stamps foiling, she has videos that do a great job of explaining the whole process.

I have a minc machine and an office laminator and both work with the Heidi swap foils and deco art foils.

I use a $25 laminator and cheap no name foil, under $20 for five rolls from Amazon. I make the sandwich with copy paper, run it through 2-3 times which takes all of about two minutes and it comes out great.

I have had VERY spotty results with laser printed items. My laminator is super cheap - no adjustments at all, just on/off. It laminates and it works with minc products and deco foil just fine. I too run them through twice in parchment with an extra piece of paper for pressure. Now, somebody needs to keep me away from the hot foiling systems because I haven't figured out a "hack" for them

To clarify, so far I have only done this with images I print from my laser printer. Am planning on trying it with the Deco Paste soon.
