HBOMax is releasing a documentary called 'The Way Down: God, Greed and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin' on Sept 30th. linkI know there was a thread about Gwen Shamblin when she died in a plane crash in May, so I thought this might be interesting for some of us. I have absolutely no idea who this woman was, but these types of stories fascinate me to no end, so I will be watching it. From what I can tell, the documentary was in production long before the plane crash, but I'm sure it is included.
UPDATE! The last two episodes of this is coming April 28th!
I was really keen on watching the entire show when the first 3 eps came out, so looking forward to watching the conclusion.

Wow - I remember her now - only because once I saw the hair I remember seeing photos when it was discussed here last time.
I don't have HBOMax but hopefully this will end up streaming somewhere I can watch it!

I don't have HBO Max but I really want to watch this. I used to work for a church and I remember when Weigh Down was all the rage

I would love to watch it but don’t have HBO Max so I hope it ends up streaming somewhere else. I personally know people who belong to that church cult. That woman was totally batshit crazy and even though she’s gone now her followers are all still completely brainwashed. It’s scary how so many people fell for her brand of nonsense.
In the past I’ve gone down several of the online rabbit holes where former members the Remnant Fellowship have related just how horribly they were treated by Gwen and her ilk. I keep hoping that with so many of the top leadership gone now the whole house of cards will collapse.

Thanks for the info - I will watch this.
I tried the Weigh Down Workshop a long, long time ago at a local church (not my church but a church of a friend). My friend lost quite a bit of weight through the program and kept it off. I liked the basis of the the program, at the time, but it just didn't help me lose weight.
This was a long time ago before she even had books written yet. It will be interesting to see the documentary and what she evolved into.

I too remember her, but it was only because of her hair and seeing photos of her here when we discussed her here previously (just like Cakediva said).
Luckily we do have HBOMax so I'm putting this on my watch list. It looks very interesting.

I know this thread is old but I am wondering if anyone has seen the Lifetime movies on this starring Jennifer Grey (who looks nothing like her old self!) I never watch Lifetime (or any tv for that matter... lol) yet I stumbled upon it in my boredom the other day and it was pretty interesting. It was the first I had ever heard of Gwen Shamblin so naturally, I searched the board after to find threads. I started the HBO series today!
