First - my apologies this is so late today. I woke up with a blinding headache, called in sick to work, took as much advil and tylenol as is safe, and went back to bed. I'm upright now. End of the month already! I have all my sketches printed out for the month, but I will have 24 left to play with in October. Note to self: add good points to sketches in the october challenge thread This is a recent sketch I saw posted, by Becky Fleck: becky fleck sketch by kirstendrew, on Flickr My first impressions were: love the banner, love the half and half, love the circle/title combination. And I think that's how I always approach a sketch - what draws me to it - and those are the elements I will emphasize as I interpret. Here is my version: layout falala together by kirstendrew, on Flickr Today's twists: do ONE of these to complete the twist; each extra one you do is a bonus 2 points. 1. go BIG with an element. Choose something you like about the sketch - for me, the banner - and enlarge it. It could be the banner, the circle/title, the journaling elements, the embellishment square, or the photo (I also used a 5x7 photo). 2. Go for BIG contrast - I used the red and white background, although I shrunk the red to 1/3 of the page instead of half. And I added the black matting and black strip to bring out the layers. 3. Go for a BIG technique - and by this, I mean challenge yourself a bit I actually dug out Christmas critter stamps, and coloured them with copics, and used them on a page. I am not a critter person (I love them, I just don't use them!) so I am chuffed to have used these little animals! You can choose any technique that is "hard" for you - maybe that's stitching, or splattering, or tearing... you know you. 4. Go for a BIG holiday - make this page a holiday event (any holiday). Even tho I didn't scrap a lot this month, I did get 5 Christmas pages done

Oh kirsten! I hope that headache stays wherever you sent it! Please take the rest of your sick day and REST. Thanks for this challenge and all of the other imaginative challenges you have come up with this month. I too am printing off the SKETCHtember challenges I have yet to get to, and squirreling them away for October. Feel better soon!

I'm sorry you had such a bad headache. I figured you weren't well when the sketch hadn't been uploaded by the time I went to bed on Wednesday. This is a great sketch, and your sample layout is even better! Off to the gallery to leave some love.....

Thanks for the great sketch, I had a lot of fun with this one. Plus I got to use one of my NBK Design kits. How cute is her little mixed media birthday lambie?! I wish I could say that it was me who made it, but it was part of the kit. The photo is my SIL and niece and nephew.

kitbop, I am sorry you started your day with a headache. Seems like I get one every time the smoke gets heavy here. I hope you are doing better now. I love your sketch and vowed to add gold spatters when I did this one. But when it came to doing the sketch, I chickened out and didn’t think they would fit. I left you love in the gallery. AussieMeg, I left love in the gallery for your pretty page. jjpeapea, I love your page. I especially love the story of the gnome. What a sweet thing to do. I’m sure your neighbors are wondering. That makes good neighbors. I love your banner and love the layers on your title. Great page. Here is mine: I followed the sketch but no twist on this one. Grandmas

nylene love those beautiful soothing blues and those gramma smiles. I think you should take twist points for an extra special banner and extra special embellishments.

I went big on my photo element by using two matted together and with the holiday. Not sure if you can see but there are tiny nibble marks on the lower right corner... courtesy of Dusty who likes to help.

jjpeapea I love this story! The navy and white is just lovely, and I love your big title. Linda I spy the nibble marks in the corner of your page, I have a little helper who does the same thing. I love that bold red paired with the text paper, and your larger photos work beautifully here. I think I've caught everyone else in the gallery.
