I've been scrapping for nearly 20 years and I've scrapped some of my childhood photos that I had in my personal photo albums. I periodically asked my mum for others to no avail. I've since inherited her albums and of course, there are many more photos from my childhood.
In many cases the layouts I've already made had 1, maybe 2 photos from an event/photo session and now I have several more from the same event/photo session - often better photos (the ones in my album were either from my camera - I got my first at 7) or were duplicates/discards from my mum.
I would like to include some of these photos in my albums but I'm not sure how best to do that. I scrap 8.5x11 and the photos are a variety of sizes (square, 3.5x5, 4x6) so I'm not sure pocket pages will work.
Ideas? Most of the existing layouts are single page

I would make page layouts with one or more photos on them, and mix them in amongst the pages you already made.
If you have several "one photo only" pages, you add "multiple photo pages" in between the other pages.
If you don't want to scrapbook the additional photos, you can put them in a decorative box, and incorporate the box as a part of your home decor. This is what I have done with old photos (many of them are yellowed and they ALL smell of cigarette smoke).

If you have 3 ring albums, add in photo pages a d just have them between pages with photos that go along.
Or even pocket pages and add cards with additional info or embellishments, etc.

In this case, I would just make new layouts with all the new photos you have. You can either mix them in with your old layouts or start a new album.

I would probably replace the not so good photos you already scrapped with the better versions, if they're basically the same but just better versions, if that is something you wanted to do and it didn't destroy your existing pages. And I would probably add inserts with the additional photos, maybe just on a coordinating piece of cardstock without necessarily scrapping them. I'm thinking maybe the equivalent of pocket pages but without having to deal with the actual pockets, more like just sticking the extra photos onto a sheet of cardstock with minimal gaps in between and maybe just adding captions if more info is needed. Or if nothing is bigger than 4x6 you could use pocket page inserts that hold 4x6 photos and just use a little piece of cs or pp for a mat on the smaller or squarer photos. That would be quick and easy, although I'm not sure which inserts play well with 8.5x11 and I guess you probably have some landscape some portrait. Or you could just make more new scrapbook pages even though you already made some for those events. Some scrappers do tons of pages for events and even multiple pages using the same photo to tell different aspects of the story... I don't think that's really your style, but just saying, you can if you want to!

I would consider redoing layouts of special occasions to include the new pictures. I would also think about recording a different memory from the picture or event on a new layout. If there are multiple new pictures of one event I might adhere them to matching cardstock and put them next to the existing layout so it would look like a two page layout.

I exclusively scrap 12x12, but include various sizes & configurations of divided page protectors (or similiar style pages*) for extra photos, actual memorabilia, or short stories. HTH.
* When different sized photos don't work with the configurations of divided page protectors I have on hand, I create an irregular grid (fitting the different sized photos together like a jigsaw puzzle) on a sheet of cardstock & insert into a page protector next to the single-page layout. This faux pocket page can be the same size of the layout or smaller - whatever size works for the photos & the page protector fits into the rings of the album.

If I found any that I felt moved to scrap, I would scrap an additional page/layout, and add it next to the already existing one.
If I just wanted to have the photos near the layout, I would use photo corners to mount them on cardstock, slip it in a page protector, and add it after the layout.
Otherwise, I would just put them in a box, to be looked at or scrapped later.

I bought some 6x12 and 6x8 page protectors/pocket pages. I use them for extra photos and/or memoribilia. I have also used them when I find or receive new photos of something I have already scrapped. I just add the new page to my album.
You may have to punch new holes in the page protector, but that is no big deal.

Thank you all - some good suggestions. I think I was overthinking it but yes a second layout would work and that would be a good opportunity to add additional journalling. I was worrying about trying to coordinate with the original layout - not sure why since I don't bother to coordinate facing one-page layouts in general but perhaps because the photos are unrelated usually - I do use 3-ring albums so that does help.

I would also probably take a picture of the album/photos that you found, and scrap a story about finding all the additional photos

I would also probably take a picture of the album/photos that you found, and scrap a story about finding all the additional photos not sure I have a photo but yes- that's a good idea to do a journalling page about ALL the photos and slides and albums and CD/DVDs and flashdrives and camera cards we brought home when cleaning out my mum's house. I do have some photos of the piles of boxes and I think one of the UHaul trailer so that might work.
