For a few years, I've used Bare Escentuals but do not like how it seems to make my pores, lines and imperfections bigger/obvious. I'd like to find something that will cover/hide the imperfections better but at the same time not make my face look so cakey or heavy. What foundation do you use?

I used Prescriptives for years but now that that is gone I use Clinique. I'm not sure it is the best but it was the easiest since that was the next makeup counter over from where I bought the Prescriptives. I did have a great experience recently at Sephora when I went in looking for a new powder. You might try there to see if they have something you like better that what you are using.

I've recently switched from powder mineral makeup to liquid. I like Revlon Colorstay and L'oreal True Match Lumie. I do like to use a pressed powder to mattifify both makeup.

I am using Mac Studio Fix powder + foundation. It is a matte pressed powder, but I apply it with a brush and it gives excellent coverage.

I've been a Bare minerals user for years and they now have a liquid makeup that I love. If you've been happy with their mineral makeup up until now, I say give it a try.

I would go to Sephora, get a color match with their computer system, and get samples from a variety of brands. What is the "best" for me might not be the best for you. And even then, what is best for me in summer is different from what I would wear in the winter! I am primarily using Christian Dior's Hydralife BB or Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation depending on how much coverage I want (and how much time I want to spend applying my makeup), and I could easily give you a list a half-mile long of reputable brands that just did not work for me.

I was using PUR minerals and had some of the same issues. I started using Tarte BB Cream and then a light dusting of the PUR minerals (with a big fluffy brush, not a foundation or kabuki brush) and am much happier. It could be that you are using too much of the BE or need a primer or BB cream underneath.

With all due respect - all recommendations are rather pointless because its so individual. You need to go to a variety of counters and get them to assess what they think from their range will suit you and trial them.

I used to use a mineral foundation, but at 54 I decided it was time to try going back to a liquid foundation. The mineral foundation that I loved was showing too much of my fine lines. I went to Ulta and ended up with Urban Decay Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. It is Amazing! It covers extremely well, yet once it is on I feel like I am wearing nothing. Which I love. It lasts for over 8 hours, but I do use a primer so that might help. I put it on using the cheap, but wonderful sponges that Ulta sells in the multi packs.
I first wet the sponge, put two squirts on the back of my left hand, dip the sponge in the foundation and then swipe it all over my face. Its sets very quickly so you want to work fast. The ladies at Ulta helped me pick the perfect color for me, but they also sell it at Sephora, plus they have some color gadget that helps them choose your correct color. Ulta is just much closer and easier for me to get to so I go there. Sephora is in our Mall and I avoid the Mall like the plague.
They sell a brush that you can use to apply this foundation, but I prefer the sponges. They are more sanitary (I use a new one each time) and quicker for me to use. I love this foundation! It sells for $39.00 so it's not the cheapest, but I think it's worth it.

I switched from BE mineral makeup to Laura Mercier minerals several years ago, for many of the same reasons. Also, BE started to cause blemishes for me. The Laura Mercier gives me medium to full coverage, depending on application, which is great for work. I also have a Urban Decay liquid foundation for when I want a light coverage. I get them both at Sephora. The reps there helped me find the Urban Decay foundation and the proper color match - it was great and very easy!

I've used Bare Minerals powder foundation for years. I tried the liquid and hated it. It settled into fine lines and the smell drove me nuts. It is fragrance free, but has a weird chemical smell. Other than the settling into fine lines, I like the way it looked.

I agree with gar. Go to Sephora and see if you can get a few foundation samples. Try them out for a few days and see which one you like. Its hard to go in and just buy one....at least for me. I have 3 that I regularly use depending on what kind of look I'm going for. Kat Von D's Lock it Tattoo foundation, Make up For ever's HD Foundation,& Merle Norman's Lasting Foundation. Good luck!
