I like plain Cheerios. Not for breakfast. I like to eat them for dinner, especially in the hot summer months.

I keep muesli in the house, as DH eats it with yogurt and fruit for breakfast. I don't eat breakfast. I have never really seen the appeal of breakfast cereal as a meal at any other time of the day.

The thread talking about breakfast cereals made me realize we have come to the end of an era in our house. After decades of having 2-3 types of cereal/granola open at a time, no one eats cold breakfast cereal anymore. Today I tossed the two boxes of Cheerios sitting in the pantry when I realized their expiry date was July 2019. My best guess is no one has regularly eaten cereal for four years. I'm pretty sure DS will still want his annual birthday box of Fruit Loops but other than than we aren't cereal eaters any more. Don’t think of it as the end of an era - think of it as a break, a hiatus, a temporary thing. In years to come you will start buying them again when the grandkids sleep over. Ask me how I know……..

We love cold cereal in this house. We usually have some sort of flake cereal (Honey Bunches of Oats at the moment), some sort of square cereal (Quaker Oat Squares right now), and then I add granola also to mine. lol. We also have Life opened, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I like some of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch as an afternoon snack. Hits that sweet tooth craving but is a bit healthier than candy or a cookie.

DD still eats it occasionally but she's rarely home so I don't buy it regularly. Dh never has eaten it except his fun box of peanut butter captain crunch during our beach vacation week each year. I like a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats for dinner sometimes on nights where I'm just too tired to cook even a simple meal. However I've never liked cold cereal for breakfast. I don't find it filling enough.

One of my kids eats cereal, so we have one box at a time open for them. We sometimes have granola in the house, but that is used primarily as part of trail mix or as a yogurt topper by my oldest.

We always have cereal on hand, but it’s rarely eaten at breakfast time. More as an evening snack or an occasional dinner.

We keep a small box of Cheerios or frosted mini wheats in the house because we have it for dinner or a snack sometimes.

and a box of cornflakes for mashed potatoes. This caught my eye. How do you use the cornflakes with mashed potatoes? Is it a topping?

I had Cheerios for dinner last night. I alternate Wheaties with occasionally Kelloggs or Posts Corn Flakes. I also usually have a box of frosted mini Wheats on hand for snacking (dry). Right now it’s the pumpkin spice flavor. They are really good. I keep the container in my nightstand in case I want to snack at night. My DH eats Cheerios, but loves Frosted Flakes, so we usually have a box of those on hand also. I can’t stand them because they’re way too sweet. We only eat brand name cereal. No generic or store brand names.

They are mashed potatoes with a bit of chopped onion, garlic, small handful of cheddar cheese, and sour cream all mixed together then put in a pie plate and topped with melted butter and crushed up cornflakes. Then baked until the flakes are golden brown. Once upon a time there was an actual recipe, but now I just wing it. They are a favorite in our family.

I eat most cereal with cold milk except for Weetbix which I eat with warm milk. My brother eats it that way too, but my sisters think we're both nuts. I usually only have one box of cereal open at a time because I don't want it to lose its crunch. It does get a little boring though.
When I first moved to Australia I bought one of those variety packs of single serve boxes of cereal so I could see what I liked best. Sadly I am too cheap to keep buying them.
I'm also a fan of porridge (usually oat or cream of wheat) cooked on the stove, though I will microwave if pressed for time. When I was in South Africa I would have maize porridge, which is a staple in Africa. I think it might be similar to grits.

I went on a student exchange for 3 months to Germany in the early 1990s. Breakfast was sandwiches or other things. Not cold cereal. I found I stayed full longer and when I got back to Canada, I stopped with cold cereal for Breakfast.

Yes, I have many boxes of cereal going at once. DSO rarely eats cereal so he doesn't understand why I have so many boxes of cereal. I've tried to explain to him that I don't want to eat the same thing for breakfast every day, so I like to have several to choose from to mix it up a bit. I mean, he won't eat leftovers or have mashed potato two nights in a row, so you'd think he'd understand! Currently in the pantry I have the following: Bran Flakes with Honey & Almonds Weet-Bix Cornflakes (to make Honey Joys) Rice Bubbles (to make Mars Bar Slice etc) Uncle Toby's Tasty Flakes with Honey & Almonds Coco Pops Chex (for DS) Jordan's Crispy Oat Clusters Freedom Berry Coconut Clusters Golden Gaytime Coco Pops - DSO bought a three pack from Costco but we didn't really like them, so I have been using them to make a Mars Bar slice. Kellogg's Right Start And DS finished off the packet of Aldi brand Froot Loops yesterday. They were not very nice, which is why *I* didn't finish off the packet yonks ago. Hmmm, I didn't realise I had quite that many until just now. No wonder DSO questioned why there were so many! I'm pretty sure DS will still want his annual birthday box of Fruit Loops but other than than we aren't cereal eaters any more. It has been a tradition in my house for many years that I buy a big box of Froot Loops every school holidays for DS and I to share. So that's four times a year. But I usually buy a few over the Christmas / Summer holidays, because that goes for about 8 weeks. I misssssss Australian cereal - it’s just not the same here. No Just Right, or Sustain, or Nutri Grain or Weet Bix. 😭 *sob* Even the Special K doesn’t taste the same.

We usually have two open and that’s it! I’ve always eaten my cereal dry because I never liked milk. I know use my cereal over yogurt to give it a crunch taste. If I eat dairy products, like yogurt or ice cream, I need to add a crunchy texture.

We currently have three or four boxes open, but I don’t know when someone last ate cereal. The kids seem to go in spurts. Sometimes they eat a lot of cereal and then they go awhile not eating it at all. Right now I think my 16 year old eats breakfast at school since it’s free this year. The 12 yo probably doesn’t eat anything. Youngest has toast at home.

No cold cereals here anymore. Now that I’m older and maybe a little wiser, I realize cold cereals are only 1 step above eating a cookie. Nutritionally, it’s poison. Of course, my kids ate it when they were younger, but I didn’t allow sugared cereals, thinking that made cereal healthy.

I voted 1 box at a time, not because I'm a tyrannical cereal gate keeper, but my kids don't eat it much anymore. They are all in high school and no one wants to get up early enough for breakfast. cereal is eaten as an after school snack or bedtime snack in our house. I usually only have one box at any given time.

DH might have cereal once a week and the boys usually only eat it in the summer. They were never big cereal eaters so we usually only have one or two boxes open at a time. I pretty much stopped eating cereal a few years ago. Cereal was all I ever ate growing up, we used to have a cabinet with a couple dozen cereal options (for 6 kids).

Nope not at my house.. cereal is a staple. And will always be if I am around. It's possible that I could live on cereal the rest of my life if I had no other options. I just picked up an oldie the other day.. I haven't had it in a millions years.. Grape Nuts. Yummy!!!! Just wish they had Grape Nut Flakes.. even better.

Love this - my kids knew a visit to grandma meant Froot Loops instead of original Cheerios. I eat most cereal with cold milk except for Weetbix which I eat with warm milk. MIL always warmed the milk for DH and his siblings. She still can't believe any cereal is meant to be served with cold milk.

My husband will eat a bowl of cold cereal over even pancakes or waffles! Out of health concerns I would buy him granola or make it myself. When we moved this summer my kids got access to my dad's Maple Cheerios so they've been eating it lately. We'll see how long this phase lasts as I noticed my youngest had toast for breakfast this morning. Usually I only buy puffed cereals around the holidays when I make the family recipe for Chex Mix.

I gave up cold cereal about 10 years ago when I decided to get my body back to healthy. I loved cereal! It was a very bad habit for me. Cereal for breakfast and cereal at night as a snack before bed, and it was always some sugar cereal that is horrible for you. The only time I buy cereal now is one box Corn Flakes that I use about 1-2 cups of to crunch up for the topping on our Christmas breakfast casserole. I give the rest of the box away to anyone that will take it. If I don't, I'll be tempted to break into it and the sugar and go to town. I know that it would be very very bad for me.

Oh, we are totally cold cereal eaters. I have 2 teen athletes and a young adult son, and a good bowl of cereal is often needed on top off their meals and fill them up. LOL!
We probably have 4-5 boxes open at a time. 3 regular like shredded wheat, granola, Cheerios, Grape Nuts, and 2 sweet cereals. Since the kids were little I have only allowed them to eat sweet cereal on Fridays-we call it “sweet cereal Friday.” Even though they are older teens now, they still follow the rule. I think it’s pretty cute.

I voted other. I eat Cheerios every morning but DH has 4 cereals that he rotates ~ 3 are Kashi Go Lean and the 4th is Cheerios Almond. Cheerios Almond is my new favorite cereal. Frosted mini-wheats is what I normally have. But I really like the Cheerios with Almond.
