Someone we just met apparently has an eating disorder in which she said she was hospitalized for (it sounded like a lengthy hospital stay, like many months-year type thing.) Have no real information, not what kind of eating disorder, etc. She's a friend of my teens.
I know the bare bones about eating disorders. I was going to do a little research and educate myself, but honestly the peas know it all and it's more interesting reading than the mayoclinic .com type of thing.

My daughter struggled with anorexia for many years. She spent time in an eating disorder/psychiatric unit of a hospital on two different occasions and went to out-patient care (six week program) twice. She is doing better but it will always be there.

A close friend was bulimic for many years. With therapy and a healthier lifestyle she is doing much better. It was more about control than weight for her. Not sure what info you're seeking.

I guess just that, the why's of it? I thought sometimes it was a control thing... but i'm really not familiar with it. Like I said, just met her and she seems like such a sweetheart - I guess i'm just concerned about her and was hoping it was something she wouldn't always struggle with. Seems like it's still an issue (and i'm guessing it's anorexia, but am not sure.)

17 yo DD"s best friend struggled with anorexia over the last year. She seems some better but as a PP mentioned, it will always e there. She had major upheaval in her life and food was the one thing she could control. She got very thin though and still seems on the thin side but people do see her eating so I'm hoping she puts on a bit of weight. They are seniors now and I also worry when she goes off to college since her parents live overseas.

It's almost always a control issue.
