My hair is pin straight. I use Aquage Uplifting foam (smells really good) at the roots with a little dragged down the length, and a very hot (430 degree) 1" curling iron, and some fairly heavy duty hairspray (Paul Mitchell Freeze & Shine) www.ulta.com/p/uplifting-foam-xlsImpprod15941177?sku=2507195&cmpid=PS_Non!google!Product_Listing_Ads&cagpspn=pla&CATCI=pla-1208413774223&CAAGID=123912667168&CAWELAID=330000200001148908&CATARGETID=330000200002744192&CADevice=c&gclid=CjwKCAjwn8SLBhAyEiwAHNTJbWBrzMkbuTyIDrEh6MOULZM9-JcScSq9dWh45biCJJ5p-dwr9pNgfBoCcVYQAvD_BwE

What are you hoping to accomplish with your styling?

In my opinion the best product is a short, layered cut with highlights, all of which add the illusion of volume. Lots of modern and feminine ways to do that these days.
My straight, fine hair also manages to be frizzy in humidity (probably due to gray under my color, lol). I use a little volumizing mousse at the crown (currently Got2B) and some smoothing gloss stuff (Kenra) on the bangs and sides. Side part helps because you don’t see that widening center part. A little hair paste (also Kenra) for hold and texture. Texture without frizz is really key.

I have been using TIGI Catwalk Root Boost on damp hair and blow drying upside down. Then I keep my head down until it cools. That seems to help with volume. I’m wearing my hair straight these days so I follow up with the Revlon one step blow dryer to smooth the ends.

My new stylist introduced me to Morrocanoil Texture Spray. She sprayed it on top and scrunched up my hair. I've used it by lifting sections after drying and spraying underneath.
I agree with @merge that the cut is important. I have to keep layers in. If it gets too long on top I can't get any volume and it really droops as opposed to sort of droops.

You can’t fix a cut that doesn’t work for your hair type with any amount of products.

this product is amazing. just a little bit, like dime size, put through damp hair will make your styling easier.

Mine is fine and stick straight. Last time I got my hair colored the girl put in biolage volume bloom. I immediately bought some and love it! I only use another 4-5 pumps but it really adds a lot of volume to my hair. Usually when I but things they with my hair down or I don’t like the texture of them but this one has been awesome!

Look forward to gray hair. My hair was fine and my dark brown hair got finer as I got older. Fortunately, the gray that replaced it had a much greater hair shaft diameter. I don't color my hair and have been enjoying my gray for quite a few years as I started turning when I was 19 years old! I'm salt and pepper now, heavy on the salt. And I definitely feel as though I have more hair than I did when I was younger.

Definitely agree with @merge that highlights and chunky layers help add body.
For body I use Oribe Maximista thickening spray. You have to try different thickening products to see which works best for your hair.

Tea Tree thickening spray. I purchase it on Amazon. Also TOTALLY agree with layered cut and highlights.

I used to think products weighed my fine, thin hair down and now I think it is just the wrong products. I have been using L’ange and I am really happy with it. I don’t use a conditioner in the shower but use a bit of their leave in, their thickening cream, root booster and then dry shampoo after I blow dry. It sounds like a lot of product but I am shocked I can style the 2nd day without it being limp and greasy. Stacy

Along with a good cut as already mentioned: Bumble and Bumble hair thickening spray is wonderful along with a good volume mouse. And bow dry with a round brush.

Krys - is this a spray? I looked on Ulta and see they have Volume Bloom shampoo and conditioner and then a Full Lift Volumizer Spray.

No advice as my hair is the worst. Very fine, but also moderately thick and slightly wavy. Not curly, wavy. It sucks. I can blow it straight but even then there is one section that doesn't like to totally straighten.

Just pulling this thread back up to say I bought the Aquage Uplifting foam and tried it this morning. I really like how you can direct the product to the roots. It’s nothing like the mousses/foams I was used to that seem like you have half a can of whipped cream in your hand. I styled as usual just with a blow dryer and brush. I do have a little more lift at the crown now and hopefully it will hold throughout the day.
Thanks for the recommendation.

I need to try the spray - unless it has a strong smell. does it?

Along with a good cut as already mentioned: Bumble and Bumble hair thickening spray is wonderful along with a good volume mouse. And bow dry with a round brush. I use that too. I avoid too much conditioner, since it seems to weigh my hair down and it gets oilier faster. I thought that I would get more volume with gray hair, but nope. I spray a leave in conditioner into my hand and pat it on the ends of my hair. I’m currently using Redken Guts 10 mousse for volume.
