I had this idea to lighten up some of my vibrant Dylusions paints especially the Periwinkle. It’s my fave but waaaayyyy too dark. I grabbed a few pinks while I was at it. Sadly, all of the jars of paint were dried out. I could reconstitute the Periwinkle with water and Liquitex white acrylic paint. That took time and a lot of stirring. This process did not work on the other paints. Into the trash they go! This is similar to issues I have had in the past with Nuvo mousse drying out. Even the unopened containers. This is not a knock on any product. It’s just my failure to use up things that have a potential to dry out.
Moral/s of the story=
I will buy tubes of acrylic paints (the tubes last a long while) and mix my own colors as needed I need to stop holding on to things/hoarding and use them up i.e. rub ons Stop buying perishable scrap products
Anyone else have similar frustrations?
Updated: Quite a few of my Dina Wakely acrylic paint tubes are congealed, too. Sigh!

Anyone else have similar frustrations? I have spaces for things and I do my best to not overflow those areas. I don't own many things that will dry up, but paper... I had to talk myself into throwing away a small piece of purple pattern paper. The coordinating sheets are long gone. Or the monkey pattern paper left over from a finished page. Why did I keep it so long when I know of something else I own that would work when I needed a monkey?

That Dylusions paint all dried out on me too but tubes that I've had for years haven't dried out at all.

Ugh yes I had this same issue with some of my dylusions paints. I was able to transfer many to bottles which was a colossal pain. All of the paint pens I bought from this line are garbage. So much money wasted 😑

Count in me in the group with dried up mixed media and crumbling rub ons...I have really been trying to limit how many perishable supplies I buy. I use embossing paste with my stencils, so I have been trying to just buy that and then I have some powdered pigments to tint it. I did a major purge of dried out supplies about a year ago, but I suspect that I could do it again. It feels like such a waste of money

That's why I stopped buying stickers. Most scrapbook companies offer a diecut pack with their collection so if I want embellishments now I buy the diecut "ephemera" pack instead of stickers.

Ugh, that's such a bummer! I don't like buying things that don't last, but I'm also trying to use things promptly while I'm excited about them. I do expect paints and markers and tools to last though. I would be seriously annoyed if any of my coloring things were dried up when I went to use them.
I was less than impressed with the one Dylusions product I've ever bought. It was an art journal that wasn't designed to allow for the expansion/chunkiness that happens when you art journal in your art journal 🤨😒

Talk to me about alllllllll those markers I have bought!
I also have sets of specialty pens - a couple of different kinds - that have those little goobers covering the ball point inside the cap (what on EARTH are those called?!). I should never own any of those pens. If it's so in danger of drying up that it needs a goober on the tip, then it's not going to be a good investment for me!

I just threw out about 20 journaling pens and at least 6 of them were brand new white pens! 4 different brands. also AC Galaxy markers - but the Slick Writers were fine.

I haven't completely stopped buying stickers, but I have cut WAY down because I much prefer die cut/ephemera packs. Three items I have had a lot of trouble with are Doodlebug sprinkles (I find they yellow over time), metal flair buttons (a lot of flair I have in my albums has rusted), and Copic markers (many of mine have dried out).

Remember those cute little making memories paint bottles? They looked so nice on my shelf🤨. I should have used them. Tossed them all.

Thank you for that link! I now have a bundle of stuck up pens in my hand and am about to go and steam them. Will it work?! ETA it worked on 4 out of 23 (which means I still have 19 plastic tubes which are pretending to be pens)

Oh SS, I also had to toss all of my MM paints! I had even sent for the replacement caps for them hoping that would help with their longevity. My fault for having to have all of those sets. They sure were pretty though!

I was thinking my Vicki Boutin pigment powders but there has to be something else. Thx! I have the Vicki Boutin pigment powders, and I like them, but they are limited in the number of colours offered. I recently bought, but have not yet tried, some of the ColorSparx powders from the Crafter's Workshop...these seem to have more earth tones than I was able to find in the Vicki Boutin line. I have also had success with products from Lindy's Stamp Gang, including the Magicals. I've had some of these products for years, and they all ship dry, with some product in either a jar or a spray bottle. I could be wrong, but I think that most of the actual product is the same, just packaged differently, so I do not add water or any other mediums to the product, instead I scoop a small amount out and either use a mini mister for water or mix it on a craft mat with embossing paste. I will say, some of the more shimmery products in this range have worked better (kept their shimmer) when I use a clear gel (Prima has a number of them) as opposed to something with a flat white base.

Yes on these! Doodlebug sprinkles are sooo cute, and I’m always tempted, but I have to remind myself that they will yellow (ALL epoxy does that). I wish they used enamel or made those designs out of a different material that doesn’t yellow. No one wants a yellow snowman, no matter how cute!!

I am so proud of myself!! I had bought a Disney cover set from CM, soooooo long ago. I have been hanging onto it, and we literally have been to Disney once in 20 years, as my kids found it too overwhelming and DS apparently hates actors in large unnatural costumes. Who knew? Anyway, I have given it to my one scrapbooking friend that loves Disney...and she was thrilled. Why was it so hard to part with that? I think so many of our supplies represent what could be, or we could do, I always thought we'd get back to Disney with the kids when they got a little older and it never happened, so I just had this cover set sitting around.

So much money wasted 😑 This might not have helped, so take it with a grain of salt, but it’s what an instructor at an LSS pounded into our heads at an ongoing class where we used them. 1 - Press the tip down to the paper and hold it down to start the paint flow - don’t push/pounce it up and down. Even once. (Instructor had eyes in the back of her head.) Have patience. 2 - When done using it, wipe off the tip. That’s it. Mine from several years ago work, following those rules. Even if I don’t use them, once in a blue moon - 3-6 months? - I’ll activate each one so it won’t forget how to work. One of those don’t-have-making-mojo so what can I do jobs.

I think so many of our supplies represent what could be, or we could do This. 100%. I am definitely guilty of purchasing aspirational supplies that don't actually reflect my life. I am trying so hard not to do this, and just focus on what my life looks like now, the photos I take, and what I have uses for.

I've had to throw out almost all the paint and mixed media pastes/gels I've bought over the years. Most of them dried up within the first year. I don't expect things to last forever, but I do expect them to last more than a year - especially at the prices some companies charge. Those cheap acrylic paints at the craft stores, though. Those last forever. Fifty-nine cents goes a long way there. The only mixed media products that I've had for almost 20 years are the ones from Golden and Dreamweaver. The truth is, I think I need to actually use my products.

I had the same problem with my Stampin' Up! inks. My favorite colors were being discontinued so I bought re-inkers. When I pulled out my favorite color stamp pad, it had dried up. No problem! I'm prepared! I pulled out the re-inker bottle. It had separated into tinted liquid and solid mud. Shaking did nothing. I called the company. They said too bad, so sad, you should have used it sooner. From now on I will stick with one pad of black ink. No more investing in pretty colors.

I just found my MM paints and tossed them. They worked that last time I saw them, but that was several years ago. More room for more stuff.
