My layouts usually include extensive journaling, which I type/print. The date is either part of the typed journaling or stamped. When I first starting scrapping almost two decades ago, I painsakingly wrote (& rewrote...) my journaling until I found it too time consuming & frustrating, which prompted me to start typing/printing it. Now I'm seeking more of a balance, where I continue to type/print lengthy & handwrite shorter journaling.
I previously used & liked Sakura Pigma Micron pens & plan to buy them again, but cannot recall which tip size I preferred. What is your favorite pen tip/nib size (mm) for handwritten journaling? TIA.

0.25 is too fine most of the time for me. I prefer 0.5 as my "go to" and sometimes 0.75.

My favorite is the Sakura Micron 05 - I use black, brown, and blue. I also like the 08, but it can be a little too big depending on how much journaling you have. The Slick Writer is great for slick surfaces but they're getting harder to find at our local Michael's and Hobby Lobby. HTH

I like these too. Use them in my planner. I think I press too hard tho and always ruin the nib.

I also use the Sakua Micron pens and generally on a layout would use 0.3 or 0.5 depending on the space. In my storyline chapters book with smaller space I use the 0.1.

If I am not using a fountain pen, I use a Uniball Roller pen in 0.5mm.

My hands down favourite are the Staedtler Triplus Fineliners. I have a big box in all sorts of colours. They are 0.3mm and that is very much my sweet spot for thickness. I get a nice consistent line with these, and I find they make my writing look the best.

I really liked the Staedtler pens when I could easily get them (at Studio Calico?) but I started using Sharpie Pens (.8) a couple of years ago and really like them. I'm not sure if they are officially permanent like the Sharpie permanent markers, but the package does say "quick-drying to prevent smearing". I still use a regular Sharpie Marker on anything slick (photos, certain stickers, etc).

Another vote for 0.3. Mine are American Crafts brand. I, too, type most of my journaling. I like the cleaner look (and the ability to edit a million times before printing). That said, I DO use my own handwriting on labels and other elements. I find it's a nice balance of clean/readable and personal on the page. Perhaps try that, too?

I have Sakura marker pens from 20 years ago that still work! I have had so many pens dry out that I swear by Sakura brand. I use .05 for journaling, I got used to that size because those were the size of the Creative Memories pens I started scrapbooking with.

This is my current approach (or intention anyway). However, my recent conscious effort to use themed consumables & stamps on layouts has left my handwriting as the last choice for filling in tabs, labels, etc. I'm hoping this new plan of handwriting a few lines of journaling, rather than merely a word here or there (when without an applicable word/image sticker, stamp, etc.), will allow me to both incorporate more of my handwriting & use the various lined stamps in my inventory for a win-win!

For those that like the Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, I prefer the Staedtler Pigment Liners because they are waterproof. Just wanted to share in case some of you prefer waterproof pens like I do.

Mine were also at least 20 years old and plenty of ink. However I’m hard on markers and the tips were worn flat so I finally had to replace them.

We were at Hobby Lobby today and I had this thread on my mind. They only had a few of the 05 size Sakura Micron pens so I bought a six pack.

This thread caused me to do a search on amazon. That's dangerous. LOL! Anyway, I found these "new to me" pens that are waterproof. I got them yesterday. You might like these. These seem nice. Colored Fineliner 0.3mm Pens
