I belong to the Queen & Co. Facebook Royalty page. A lot of the gals store their thin dies vertically on magnetic sheets that have been mounted on either a filing cabinet or a framed surface.
I also see users there posting photos regularly of an individual die that they don’t know what set it goes to. Sometimes they say they found it on the floor, but not always. Whether from a marathon of crafting, or some other reason, it sounds like the die sets sometimes have pieces that get separated.
I can see the convenience of having dies stored vertically, where you can see them, but my dies sometimes pop off their magnetic sheets even now, and I keep them in Art Bins. Because they are in the bins, none have gotten lost, but those magnetic sheets sometimes arrive from Amazon a bit curled rather than flat. Eventually most flatten out, but I still have dies that pop off their sheets when I am looking through them.
If you store thin dies vertically, have any of your dies fallen off? If so, is it a major issue, or just a minor one?
I hope to overhaul my craft room at some point, and I am wondering if I should go to a vertical storage for my favorite dies. I do have grandkids, though. They leave my Art Bins alone. I’m not sure if they would think dies stored vertically would be something enticing to play with.
If you have had dies stored vertically for awhile, have you had any issues such as these?

If you have had dies stored vertically for awhile, have you had any issues such as these? I don't have tons and tons of dies, maybe 13 sets, (nesting and stamp sets) and then 10 or so just random dies. I did the thing where you cover a frame with magnetic duct covers and then hang it on the wall. I will say that sometimes my dies "pop" off when I am trying to get a nesting die out. Like if I want the middle circle of my circle dies, the one next to it will pop off and fall on the floor. I made a rule for myself that I must stop everything and find it, because it is a very real possibility my dog will carry it off or it will just get swept up on accident. That said, I have started being more careful and the convenience of being able to see all my dies and not having them stored away is amazing. I love it. For me, kids would not really be a problem because my dies are hung high enough. I know someone covered full length mirrors in the same magnet stuff and has those in their craft room, they look great. I really do love not digging out dies anymore.

I attached my magnet sheets in an empty picture frame and have no curling problems. None of my dies have fallen off. I actually have trouble getting them off with my gel nails. I have to use another magnet to get them off.

I have to use another magnet to get them off. I don't have curling problems either, it's just that my nesting dies tend to ever so slightly catch on another one, (this only happens when I am taking a middle one out) and that makes it pop off. Is there someone you did to avoid this? Should I not store them on the sheet nested? I think they would take up a lot of space that way. Hmmmm....maybe I need stronger magnetic sheets.

I have some magnetic sheets that are officially used for covering heating vents--I glued them to my desk for storing some of my dies. They only time the dies have fallen off is when I have bumped them at just the right angle with something (but on their own they don't fall off.) Usually it's the smallest ones that fall off completely when bumped into, bigger ones might just shift.

If you store thin dies vertically, have any of your dies fallen off? If so, is it a major issue, or just a minor one? I will first say I don't have a lot of thin metal dies. I've been slowly buying magnetic vent covers. I put two in one side of a 12x12 page protector with a piece of cardstock behind. I put two more covers on the other side. It makes it easy to slide out a vent cover and take off the die I need.
I also found some adhesive magnetic strips. I adhered two to an 8.5x11 piece of cardstock, put in a page protector and placed those in the 12x12 binder. I like the vent covers better, but I wanted to use what I have and it works well enough.
I haven't lost any this way. If I don't lift the sheet protector away from the cover as I slide it out, sometimes dies will fall off that way. I do wonder if my method will make my 12x12 binder too heavy? The remaining dies I have are stored in sandwich bags in a CD mini crate with no magnetic sheets. Some stick out of the top of the bags, but it doesn't bother me.

I made my wall die organizer earlier this year. Im just using it for my background dies and bigger dies. I used a cheap canvas + a heavier poster board + magnetic vent covers. I screwed the board to the canvas and than used double sided tape to attach the vent covers. With a sharpie I colored the space between the black covers. 20211105_155911 by Azcrafty, on Flickr For the smaller dies I still use these magnetic vent covers and chipboard, than it slides into a cut to size page protector. My dad made me some wooden boxes to hold them. 20201104_075931 by Azcrafty, on Flickr

I use magnetic sheets from stampnstorage on the side of my Kallax and have never had a single die come off. Sometimes I have to fight to get them off! But, I prefer it that way to losing some. Also, I assign each set of dies a number or a letter and I use a Sharpie to label each die in the set with that number or letter. Then I label the magnetic sheet. If anything gets lost, I know right where to put it back.

kmage I don’t have my nesting dies stored vertically but I could see how that would happen. I store those horizontally. Once they’re on not overlapping or anything they’re really stuck on but I can see how falling off would be an issue while getting them all lined up.

I use long mirrors from Target and magnetic vent covers from Home Depot. We just moved to a new home and the mirrors were carried though a house, down the stairs, into a vehicle, back out of a vehicle, down the stairs and placed in a closet. Since they are tall (and there is no bending), I can flip through the mirrors like you would files in a file cabinet. I haven't ever had a die fall off. I attribute that to the fact that the dies have a solid, thick backing. If the dies are put on the magnetic sheet with 100% available contact with the magnet, they seem to be just fine. I love that they are stackable and can be displayed like this or stacked one in front of the other.

I use a room divider w/picture frames. Like this:
Some of the openings have pix, others have pretty paper, and some have magnetic strips mounted w/dies on them. Have never had any issues w/dies falling or otherwise being harmed.

I have a CD spinning tower that my dh converted to hold my stamp cases (SU) and I've glued (gorilla glue) vent covers to the thicker sides and that's where I store my hot foil plates. I haven't had any fall off but they are heavier metal dies, not the wafer thin ones. I store those with the stamp set they belong to or if they are general dies I store them in an empty SU thin stamp case with a magnet sheet I buy from Amazon. I have a very small craft space but I'd love to have a wall of dies, I don't have any kids coming around so that's not an issue.
