As long as I’m alive and able, I would. Heck, I fill my DH’s stocking with stuff and my own, since no one else will do it if I don’t. My DH is kind of a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas and gift giving in general. He thinks no one “needs” anything because he’s the kind of person who just buys everything he ever wants so there’s nothing affordable left for anyone else to get him. But not everyone lives their best life like that, me included.

I love to do stockings and still do them for my adult daughters and their husbands if they are spending Christmas morning at our house. If they are spending with their spouse's family and I'm mailing their gifts, I don't do stockings. I still do stockings for my husband and me (hubby told me years ago he struggles with my stocking so I told him don't worry, I'll do it myself. I have GREAT stuff in my stocking every year!

Only two of my kids are adults, two are still teens. I still fill stockings, and did it for my daughter’s boyfriend last year, too. This year, we will also fill a stocking for my son’s girlfriend who will be with us Christmas morning, too. (Daughter’s boyfriend and son’s girlfriend are siblings, so we may invite their brother to join us, too… their parents are sailing the world and won’t be home for Christmas.)

Absolutely. The stockings, actually large gift bags, are my family's favorite thing! We open them after dessert on Christmas Eve. This year I'm doing 10 stockings. 5 adult, 2 teens and 3 kids. I've been buying for weeks.

mine are 21, 16 and 14. so yes, it doesn't seem fair 14 and 16 yo get ripped off when 21 year old got til she was... well at least 21. i realize i may have to amend that at some point. but the 21 yo also does a stocking for me so... that will get her a few more years too! i have to say, they all genuinely seem to love the stocking treats, which makes it rewarding.

My kids are 28 and 25 now and I’ve always done stockings for them and their significant others as they moved into adulthood. I planned to continue but then had a thought that I wasn’t even sure they were still into it. So I asked them just this week and we realized I was the one who was into it and they don’t really care haha. So I’m going to stop. DH and I will still do stockings for each other because we both enjoy it. And next year my first grandbaby will be here so we’ll have new traditions to work out!

I loved the idea, but, after I totaled up what I spend on stockings, it was more than I wanted to spend in addition to other gifts. After reading some other comments, I do put all their gifts in personalized Santa bags, so maybe I do stockings.

I'm 46 & I've had a filled stocking every year from my mom. I would be sad if she stopped, not because of the stuff inside, but because I love seeing my stocking that she made for me as a baby every year.
My boys are only 16 & 13, but I will continue to fill their stockings forever (I made their stockings when they were babies too).

yes I do. And I wrap each & every single gift in them. Same as I have since they were kids. We open stockings on Christmas eve.
This year my dd is in BC, and my ds might be with his girlfriend's family on christmas eve. I told them I wasn't going to do stockings this year - and practically had a mutiny on my hands!!! I thought I was going to be tarred & feathered! So guess I'm still doing them, just on a much smaller scale. I need to get on that so I can mail one out to my dd with her gifts.

we transitioned at 18 from Santa bringing gifts and filling stockings (both unwrapped) to only wrapped gifts from mum and dad and wrapped stocking fillers - and any adult is welcome to add a wrapped item to the stocking of any other adult - which ended up being really nice because I occasionally get something in MY stocking now. We only do stockings if they are home for Christmas - they still get presents mailed to them and some of those would have gone in a stocking at home but I don't actually fill one. No SOs or grandchildren here - but I think that stockings would be something the couple would do for themselves and their children. By the time that's relevent here, there won't be under 18s at home (my youngest is 15) and while my kids will always be welcome here for the holidays - I don't have an expectation that they'll always be here (DS missed 2015-2018 and 2020) so we'll be looking to change up traditions anyway. And THIS suggestion is going to be used this year for me! Thank you so much for sharing that idea! I really don't like to do stockings because we are on a budget and stocking stuffers for older teens/adults can really add up! This will be a perfect solution as my two are not ready to give them up yet.

My kids are gone but we have stockings at work each year and I absolutely love to fill them, usually with gag gifts or little things I know they'll like. No pressure on anyone to give but many of us love it and everyone gets something. Most of my coworkers are the age of my actual children so it's fun for me to buy for them.
We do send our kids gifts as well and include stuffed stockings 🥰

My kids are 30, 21, and 15 and that seemed the fairest way to deal with that wide age gap.

I enjoy filling stockings for the adult kids, so I keep doing it. I have collected needlepoint stockings for 30 years & love seeing them all filled with goodies and presents.
I pick up things as I find them that relates to each person & I find it fun. Last year due to covid, I ended up having to get it all in one shopping trip close to Christmas and that was not so easy or fun!

Thanks for all the responses. I'm not sure how I feel about them. I was just thinking that I have $600 in points from a big drugstore chain in Canada. They offer bonuses coming up soon so I could buy a boat load of stuff. Perhaps I should do this early and be prepared. Christmas can be so much work. I need a Christmas preparation schedule 😜 This is exactly what I do every year to fill my kids stockings. I wait til they have one of those redeem 200,000 points and get $300 or something like that. If you can’t buy it at Shoppers it normally doesn’t end up in their stockings. My kids are 22 and 26 and I fill stockings for them. And I fill one for my daughters boyfriend as well

Yes...if you are here in the morning when we open Christmas gifts, I will have a stocking for you. That includes my adult children, grandparents, parents, nieces, nephews, cousins...who ever might be here with us. Most years it's just the four of us and now DS's significant other.

I have a 17yo and a 24yo, both still living at home, and I still do stockings for both. I also do one for 49yo DSO. I think that I will always do a stocking, even when they've moved out. Even if it's just some of their favourite lollies and chocolates.

In any case I love doing stockings so I will probably keep it up for some time yet, maybe always. Stockings are actually my favorite gifts to buy/give. I love filling them as well. I have sometimes thought about perhaps only filling stockings for my kids once they have all grown and left---or at least trying it for one year. It would be fun to dream up only gifts that will fit inside of them, plus I'll know I'm not sending them home with anything they have to work to find a place for, nor will I have to shift around large gifts at my house in the weeks preceding Christmas each year.

Yes! Kids are 28 and 29. DD is super easy, I could fill ten stockings with stuff for her. DS is 10 times as hard since boys are harder to get those things for plus he lives across the country. So he can take stocking stuffers home but not "real" gifts that are too large. Got him luggage a couple of years ago so that worked!
ETA--when my DD was about 15 I stopped getting them Easter baskets figuring they were too old... Wow, I took the heat on that one! So they still get Easter baskets too!

It's my kids (ages 29, 27, 23 and 19) favorite part of Christmas - for real! I work really hard to "curate" (haha - I know how much people here hate that word) really good stockings. I scour stores like Paper Source, Uncommon Goods, Perpetual Kid etc... for weird, funny, creative little things. I end up buying so much that I hang reusable shopping bags with their stockings for the overflow. So now it's become a thing for me to find weird, funny, creative reusable bags! They always get some kind of candy (this year it's Goat Poop from Beekman 1802) and socks (I try to find goofy ones) and a Christmas ornament in their "theme." When each girl was born dh and I picked a theme for their ornament. Every year they get an ornament - dd1 is stars, dd2 is angels, dd3 is hearts, dd4 is bells and now we have a fiance - he's Jewish but he still wants his own ornaments for their Christmas tree so I try to buy ones that have to do with his likes and interests. The whole point was so that when they left home, they have a good start on their own tree. We could keep this a running thread as people find fun things - I'd love to see what people find! Kohl's is also a good source - they have a whole section of small games and fun things to put in stockings. This is my favorite thing I've found so far - and yes, we have a deranged sense of humor in our house: Demotivational Pens

Yes. A few years ago we started drawing names because it was too expensive for the adult “kids” to get everyone something. I continued doing “stocking stuffers” but those end up being bigger things that get wrapped. Stockings get treats, body wash, lottery tickets, make up, flashlights, socks. The adult couples share a stocking and the grand baby has his own.

My parents always did the stockings for all adults not just adult kids, but grandparents too. I loved stockings so will always do them too. One year that was my family gift at a gathering to each adult there. Found out my niece's never had a stocking before and they loved it.

I put in any small gift that can fit. I would put in a diamond ring the same as a candy cane.

If I tried to stop my dd (25) would be so upset! She has a new bf this year and I told her I got him an advent calendar and he didn’t know what it was. So sad! I’ll do a stocking for him, too. I realized a few years ago that I was spending way too much on them so now it’s soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant and stuff like that plus some fun unique gifts. There is always a pair of socks and a book. DH wasn’t a big Xmas guy but I think after 5 years he’s coming around. He always got an orange in his stocking so I get him one.
I love doing it and will probably always do it. I still do Easter baskets, too. I also have a trick or treat bag of favorite candies for them and I was going to skip it this year but my daughter was not liking the idea of breaking any tradition where she receives something. LOL She doesn’t live with us but 23 yo ds does. She’ll be coming for Xmas Eve this year so it’ll be something new.

I changed to do a couple stocking that they share. I put a few individual things in there for each person and then things for the house or date nights.

I do, and i make one for their girlfriends or any friends that stay on Christmas eve. They get Lottery tickets Alcohol minis Condoms Fancy mini specialty shampoos/soaps/toiletries Good chocolate. Razors. Starbucks card And a little toy- fidget spinner, mini art or magic set, silly putty, screaming goat (basically whatever made me laugh) I love them and theyve requested a stocking for their whole lives. How do you/they feel about them? One year I gave everyone a disc shooting gun in their stockings but forgot to arm myself. 😂 Another year it was flying monkeys that screamed. I always try to give them something funny.
