My older two boys are 9 and 11. They don't have a lot on their wish lists so far, which I guess is a good thing. They both want a new baseball bag, which they are getting. They also would like new batting helmets, but I think we will wait on that since they won't be able to use those or the bags for several months. They are also in the middle of the sizes according to online charts, so I would rather wait to see where they fall in the spring. The oldest is getting a Vikings jersey. The 9 year old has a jersey already but is now into cup stacking, so he wants another set of cups. Other than that, I don't know what to get them. I was thinking of a wacky science lab kit and a perplexus ball for the 9 year old, but may show them to him first to see what he thinks. I hate spending money on things that aren't going to get used, but I'm sure there are things they would like but just don't know about yet. Do you guys have any great ideas for me? I may do some "experience" gifts like movie tickets, etc but want something they can use right away as well. Stocking stuffer ideas are also appreciated. I saw some minecraft mini figures at TRU that I will get but haven't come up with anything else. Thanks!

NERF!!! My boys have been into nerf guns for years now and at 12 and 14, they still ask for Nerf guns. Granted, they want the big ones ($40) but it's an easy gift.
Stocking stuffers include nerf darts (mine are always losing theirs), Lego minifigures, earbuds, a book, and a few other small stuff.

For stocking stuffers, since they like football...I found a cool football trivia book (they had all different teams) at Kohls for about $8.
I can't help you much beyond that. My ds is difficult because ALL he wants is Legos. He's not into anything else besides that and football.

Hacky Sack "ball" for the stocking
Boys (and girls) this age LOVE the book Guiness Book of Records. Scholastic was publishing a Jr. book of records that had lots of color photos, they probably still do as it was very popular in the school libraries.

No boys here, but I'm getting my 12 year old dd a snap circuits light set. It looks pretty cool and would be great for boys too.

mine are 9 and 10. the 10 year old is getting a dog page a day calendar, Detroit lions pencils, and I'm going to get him an extra long iphone charging cord. the 9 year old still loves legos, so he's getting some legos and probably an indoor basketball hoop for his room. they both will get books. I got them both iphones for Christmas, so they'll be getting cases for those.
there is something called a passback football that I'm looking at - it's like half a football that you throw against the wall and it comes back to you so you can catch it. had good reviews. also, there is a night vision football and basketball set that are really fun. we have the football. gift cards to dick's or sports authority. GC for iTunes. I also like to get them deodorant and axe spray for their stockings. they don't really need it (yet) but they like to think they're grown. we usually get a new family game or two. I also hit up 5below for some math workbooks (I'm mean like that) and other silly things. they like slime and that goo that farts when you stick your fingers in the can. bathrobes. sleeping bags. I got them each a small rolling suitcase. beanbag chairs.
I got them these cool lego lights a couple years ago - they mount to something (I mounted them right to their bunk beds) and the top piece comes off, so the light is portable and can go to the bathroom with you or wherever. they like those a lot still.
flashlights - headlamps a tent new swim goggles and fins blankets - we usually all get a new blanket at Christmas for some reason

The Washington Post had an article yesterday about some toys that were kid tested favorites.
Nerf is good. I gave an ogo sport disc game last month that seemed like it might be good. Found it exploring Amazon. They had age and gender searches in their toys and games.

I was in Barnes and Noble last week and right inside the door they had some awesome books. One was all about tying knots and came with a couple lengths of cord. One was about Origami and came with lots of paper for folding. One was all about card tricks and came with 2 decks of cards.
They looked like lots of fun. I am thinking about getting some for my nephews. Check them out - might make good filler gifts.

Origami is popular with my 11 year old DS. Last year, he got a balloon pump, balloons and a book on how to make balloon animals and it was the best gift ever! What about those sports socks (Styline or something like that?) that have different cities or teams on them?

For stocking stuffers you could do a roll of coins (pennies, dimes etc).

The"Klutz" books might have something they might like? A lot of good ideas on this thread already....I'd add a DVD, a card or board game you could play as a family (would have to be well-chosen), clothing items if anything is needed, and maybe passes for an activity that is new to them (wall-climbing, snow tubing, ? You might be able to find something on Wagjag/ travelzoo).

Thanks for the ideas! I forgot to add that I also got them some expensive sports socks (Nike and Under Armour). I will probably get them a sweatshirt as well. I am going to get the 9 year old a snap circuit set. I think he would like that. I hadn't heard of them until now!

Right around that age is why my older boys started getting into Hex Bugs Nanos. They were never very interested in the larger ones, nor the Warriors (that are a little bigger than the Nanos and have Armor parts) - They just LOVE the Nanos. They are the smallest ones, like the size of large paper clips . They have habitats from small to large that have interchangeable parts, and the kids love to rearrange the habitats. The difference between Nano Original and Nano Version2 is that V2s can climb within their habitats. So the V2 Habitats are like tubes instead of tracks. If you go shopping for these, just be sure you're getting the right Nano and the right Habitat (Original can't climb in the V2 habitat tubes). Great games for this age are Quirkle and Blokus, if they might be into games. We usually try to do one game per kid (though the oldest is about to be a teenager and not so much into that anymore... a whole 'nother post there!) Rush Hour is a super cute one-player game, maybe better for 9 year old. If they like Minecraft, Lego has new Minecraft sets that look pretty awesome. I haven't seen any in stores, you probably have to order them from the Lego website. There are also some Minecraft strategy books that my current 10-year-old is really digging. Do you get catalogs in the mail? If you don't get Mindware, you should sign up for it (no idea how to do that, btw... I just "appeared" on their mailing list LOL but I imagine you can go to the website and request one...). Have them look through that catalog and circle & initial things they're interested in. It's a great selection of toys and games that have some educational/development value that kids don't know or care about. We've found a lot of cool stuff in there over the years-even things we've found in local stores, but got the idea from Mindware.

Great! My guys have LOVED getting to circle stuff in the catalogs. I mean, don't get me wrong, it definitely gets out of control sometimes where everything on every page is circled LOL, but that was worse when they were younger. Now they take a little more time and are more likely to read the descriptions. It takes the guess work out, without taking out all of the surprise.
We've done it with Sensational Beginnings, Constructive Play Things, and Toys to Grow On catalogs as well, but I think those are more geared towards the younger ones.

I would put a big apple or orange in the toe of the stocking.
