I got all my cards done and ready to go, and I intend to mail them Nov. 29.
I have 3 for Canada, and 1 for New Zealand. Will that be enough time for them to get delivered before Christmas?

For New Zealand, it might not be able to be sent at all. Last I heard USPS had suspended all mail to Australia and NZ because of a lack of flights. Nobody has told me that anything has changed since then. In normal times I would allow a week to send mail to my family, in current pandemic times it's been taking a few months, until we stopped bothering... and then they announced this new policy. Links below. It's possible that regular envelopes are still OK - I never got a good answer about that. Worst case it will be either returned to you or may arrive around Valentine's Day. Generally other mail I've sent and received from overseas has been mostly ok and I wouldn't worry too much about the Canadian ones. They should make it. www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/452764/united-states-postal-service-suspends-mail-deliveries-to-new-zealandabout.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htm (international mail suspensions)

Here are the current restrictions from the USPS website: USPS mail restrictionsIt looks like Priority mail is disrupted (meaning they aren't guaranteeing priority mail delivery dates), but regular mail should be okay? I could totally have read it wrong though. *Australia’s service disruption affects Priority Mail International® (PMI), First-Class Package International Service® (FCPIS®), Commercial ePacket (CeP), International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) packets, International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) M-Bags, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) packets, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) M-Bags, and Airmail M-Bags. **New Zealand’s service disruption affects Priority Mail International® (PMI), First-Class Package International Service® (FCPIS®), Commercial ePacket (CeP), International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) packets, International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) M-Bags, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) packets, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) M-Bags, and Airmail M-Bags.

don I was in the post office today and asked about mailing to NZ/Australia and they tested it out for us and said all of the First Class options were unavailable - letters, parcels, everything. Express mailing (very expensive, courier service) is the only option right now and the post office has no idea when that will change. If you do mail the card it will likely be returned to you. Sorry for the bad news

It took a postcard from last week in august to the first week in October to Australia. That was just before they suspended first class mail.
Planes are running to Sydney again, but I imagine there is a substantial backlog.

I wonder when the PO will announce this publicly, on the wall at the post office, or perhaps in the newspaper?

Thank you all for this info. joblackford I was going to DM you about this because I feel like you are my post office whisperer. I too was wondering due to card swaps...darn, that stinks. don I think I did hear something mentioned on the news a few weeks back, but can't find any sort of news/press release on USPS. Would be nice if the info was more readily available.

There was a press release from the USPS Oct 2nd or so, but no media outlets apparently picked it up stateside. Apparently no one cares (or no one thinks anyone cares). The post office staff don't really know much - they just see what comes up when they try to print postage. I don't think they get told much from higher up. And as for the wall, I think mine may have finally taken down the "fill in your 2020 census" posters...

Canada Post says they are accepting mail addressed to Australia and New Zealand, but there is a yellow alert: expect delays of 20 to 30 days from "delivery standards". Might want to add "Happy Easter" to the normal Merry Christmas/Happy New Year greeting... Do you have a friend in Canada, don, who could accept a batch of cards for Aus/NZ and send them from here? I could offer, but in a rural area there are already significant delays in our mail, coming and going, so I would suggest someone who lives in a city, or at least on a major highway.
