Everyone tries to out do each other with the desserts

Oh how fun! I love seeing different regional traditions.
It's just our family of 5 this year, we will be doing all the cooking. (And by we I mean ME. Family will pitch in but it's mostly on me).
Turkey (since it's just 5 of us I may only do a breast and a couple legs. Otherwise I brine using PW recipe) Gravy (from scratch, never a jar) Mashed Potatoes (also a PW recipe) Cranberry Sauce (from fresh) Green Bean Casserole (DD makes this, I think it's gross) Sweet Potatoes (very small serving, DH is the only one who enjoys) Stuffing (finally found a recipe we all enjoy) Rolls (probably frozen kind that thaw overnight)
Pies are TBD. I don't care for baking.

It will just be the four of us and MIL, so we're not going crazy. We prefer a smoked turkey, and DH's Traeger just gave up the ghost, so I ordered a smoked turkey breast from a local BBQ place.
I'll be making - Mashed potatoes Black pepper gravy or mushroom gravy - haven't decided yet Jalapeno cheddar sourdough stuffing Cranberry orange sauce Sauteed green beans with almonds Yeast rolls
Pumpkin pie Apple pie

My family is not adventurous so ours is very basic
Turkey Gravy Stuffing and Dressing Mashed Potatoes Green Bean Casserole Roasted (or sometimes roasted and mashed) butternut squash Dinner Rolls Cranberry Sauce Pumpkin Pie Apple Pie
We usually have mac and cheese too but my sister recently moved out of state and won't be able to make it home for Thanksgiving this year. Without her, we won't have it. It's the dish she brings.
I might make broccoli rice and cheese casserole. I did a couple years ago and it was a hit, but we'll see how much time I have.

This year it's just me, dh, dd, and maybe my sister. None of us likes turkey so this year I bought some Cornish game hens at Costco...a 6-pack of them, frozen. My dad used to make these after my sister and I left home. I'll make stuffing (Stove Top because that's what everyone likes), mashed potatoes, peas or green beans, gravy, pumpkin pie for dessert. Done. I feel like it's a silly holiday for those of us who don't have family who we haven't seen in awhile.

We are only having 7-8 people with 2 being young kids and we are heading out of town the next day for the weekend. I am scaling back the amount of food I'm making given the circumstances, but still making the family favorites. So far I have the following....
Turkey Ham Mashed potatoes and gravy Stuffing Cheesy corn Green bean casserole Apple pie Pumpkin pie

After a Covid-induced hiatus last year, we are back to celebrating Thanksgiving at my in-law's house. ILs are in their early 80s (and in great shape for their age if I do say so myself) and after decades of mostly doing it all themselves, MIL has assigned out side dishes. FIL is in charge of the turkey and gravy. MIL is doing sweet potatoes (not sure what recipe yet) and buying pies for dessert. Older DD and I are making the other sides - Brussels sprout gratin, green beans sauteed with onions, mashed potatoes and stuffing/dressing. MIL hasn't mentioned cranberry sauce but I think she'll be making that. So for us, a pretty traditional Thanksgiving menu.

I love reading Thanksgiving menus because I love Thanksgiving dinner. After hosting or helping to host Thanksgiving for more than 35 years, we are going out to dinner at a local restaurant. My kitchen is being demolished next Monday. Hopefully it will be brand new in time for Christmas.

I hate cream anything soups, but I make this with fresh green beans, mushrooms, white sauce, cheddar cheese, etc. I also make my own fried onions for the top so I can make them gluten free. It's delicious!

Homemade pizza with sausage, peppers, onions. Pumpkin pie for Dh.
I hate the traditional Thanksgiving foods and refuse to make them for 2 people. Actually I've made an alternate though fancier meal for several years now. Last year it was just 2 of us and I made pizza. I'm making it the new tradition.

I love planning and cooking for Thanksgiving. We have a small group but love the leftovers. Everything is gluten free except the meatballs, and everything is vegetarian except the turkey and gravy.
Turkey breast Gravy “Meat”balls (from Whole Foods) Mashed potatoes Yams Asparagus Brussels sprouts Stuffing Cranberries Rolls Pumpkin pie Other dessert, not yet determined

Small group this year, only 5 plus delivering 2 meals, so this is way to much food
Whole small Turkey Ham Mashed Potatoes Fresh Green Beans Sweet Potatoes Yeast Rolls Mac N Cheese Dressing
Pumpkin Pie Pineapple Upside Down Cake
I'm personally only doing the turkey, green beans & rolls so it will be low stress

But we mostly don't have everyday foods at Thanksgiving. That's why mac and cheese is not a tradition in our family either. However, one year I made PW green bean and they were a bit hit.

I don't have it all finalized yet. I did buy my turkey Sunday, so that's the important part. It'll be 5-6 of us at our house, I'll cook it all.
Turkey & ham (DD doesn't like turkey, so just a small amount) Mashed potatoes & gravy corn green bean casserole 2 kinds of stuffing rolls
maybe: cranberry sauce 3rd stuffing
also: various snacks: nuts crackers cheeses onion roll ups (like pickles, but scallions instead)
dessert: cheesecake pecan pie (just bought from a fundraiser) apple pie (just bought from a fundraiser) something cake/brownie/bar like
Now, off to read all your menus!

First Thanksgiving since dh died so it will be subdued. Turkey breast (usually make a big full turkey), mashed potatoes, gravy, cornbread stuffing, cranberries, mac and cheese, pumpkin pie, cookies. Maybe sides of black olives, corn, rolls. Out of 5 people, 2 have dietary restrictions.
The main thing is to have all 5 of us together. My dh loved the Thanksgiving meal and the leftovers and watching football. Sure miss him.

If weather is good we will have a game of touch football.

Last year I did 2 complete thanksgiving meals on 2 different days so we could have everything we wanted. This year I don't feel like i need everything, so the menu is scaled back. It's just me and DH, so I try to avoid a lot of leftovers too. We are having turkey burgers, no buns. I wanted a way to make a small portion of turkey since I don't like it leftover, so the burgers will be the meat on the plate. With them we will have mashed potatoes, stuffing (doctored box mix) and lots of gravy. Maybe green bean casserole. Cranberry sauce, I bought a jar at Trader Joe's I am excited to try. I'll have to ask DH if he would like rolls, i might do some of the frozen dough ones. And then a frozen pie later. I have been stressed out and run down for a couple months now, so I'm keeping it simple and easy. Normally I would need sweet potatoes for thanksgiving but a couple weeks ago I made several sweet potato recipes and got sweet potato overload, so I won't miss them. And I really prefer ham over turkey, so definitely have to do a nice ham dinner soon.

I had never heard of mac and cheese as a side dish at Thanksgiving until I was an adult. Is that regional, I wonder?

Is that regional, I wonder? We didn't do much pasta in our family. My grandparents on both sides were poor rural farmers in Oklahoma. I remember the first time my grandparents tried pizza. My father was in the Army and we started to have dishes from other regions. We would have Kraft Mac and Cheese and pizza.

DH is the meat guy so he’s in charge of the turkey. And the mashed potatoes and gravy because DS and I think they’re barfy—and I like to maximize my carbs.
Then I’ll make:
my stepmother's cornbread dressing cranberry orange relish Buttermilk biscuits—weird, I know, but I saw someone making them on a cooking show and I want to learn how to make something better than the hockey pucks you get in the northeast—I’ve been researching biscuit-making secrets this week either roasted Brussels sprouts or the traditional green bean casserole bourbon chocolate pecan pie
there may be some wild card item like roasted sweet potatoes or corn casserole and definitely another dessert—maybe cheesecake?

There will only be four of us for Thanksgiving, DS is staying at school since he has to work over the weekend.
We are having: Turkey Ham (mostly for sandwiches later) Yankee dressing (as DH calls it) Cornbread dressing Sweet potatoes Mashed Irish potatoes (?) Vegetable of some type, and maybe a corn casserole because there isn't enough carbs already Homemade yeast rolls 7-Up salad Some other type of dessert and DD also wants to make a coconut cake from scratch
My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is turkey sandwichs later with wavy chips and French onion dip.
